Would anyone like to join me in training for a half marathon?

It was a thread on this board that basically got me through the C25K programme a couple of years ago. Lots of lovely supportive women pushing each other on.

Now, I've just started training for a half marathon that's at the end of May. I was a fairly confident runner before Christmas as I was doing 12k on my long run, even though I wasn't training with the HM in mind, but then took three weeks out over Christmas and seemed to lose all my fitness and go back to square one almost overnight Angry. Still not back at the level I was before then but at least I'm feeling enthusiastic again, running 4 times a week (8.5k the longest run so far, though) and I need a goal so I've started a 12-week HM programme and today is the end of my first week.

Is anyone doing anything similar who might like to form a virtual support group and get a bit obsessed together?

Bloody well done ohone !

Well I did my hilly 10k today and cut 6m off last years time ! Am well chuffed with that! Two runs left and then it's hm time.

yetanotherdeskmove · 21/06/2015 22:52

Oh arses nc fail. It's me, thereis.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/06/2015 23:30

Wow, 6 mins over 10K is massive! Well done you too!

GeekLove · 22/06/2015 11:22

OhOne
I did the Spring Wolf one too. For me it wasn't the lake swim that froze me - it was the wait for the slip'n'slide

Somehow got signed up for the September one too. Thinking of it as training for the Tough Guy!

BlueChampagne · 22/06/2015 14:16

Well done, Thursday and OhOne - and anyone else who ran this weekend! I've hardly done any running since, mostly because of sick kids. Good job it didn't happen before the event.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/06/2015 22:21

Thanks bluechampagne, hope your children are better soon and you can get out running again.

Yes thanks Blue!

I'm thoroughly enjoying not running this week - I'm going to do parkrun and a 5k colour run on Sunday. I have nothing competitive lined up until August then, thank god!

There's race pictures of me cropping up all over FB - does anyone look nice while running???

emummy · 25/06/2015 10:26

Oh Thursday all pictures of me when running look terrible! And I always look fatter than I thought I was! Dd2 looks great in hers, she can't understand why I never want copies of mine!

BlueChampagne · 25/06/2015 13:35

Kids both back to school now - phew! Normal life can resume.

Quite agree on the photos. Wouldn't want any of me running/just having finished. That's why you get the running bling, isn't it?

MelanieCheeks · 25/06/2015 14:46

Hello peeps, mind if I join in? I've just signed up for a half marathon in September, which is 12 weeks away. I've diligently printed out a training plan, so that's a start...

ThursdayLast · 25/06/2015 14:51

Hi Melanie Grin

I haven't run at all this week - total bliss

thereisnofinway · 25/06/2015 15:11

Well I've just done my last run before my half on Sunday. My legs feel completely shot after last Sunday's race so am rather worried now!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/06/2015 20:37

Ah, Melanie you are here already Smile I should have read this thread before the parkrun one Smile

I alway end up smiling maniacally when cameras are pointed at me Grin

Do some lovely stretches thereis that always helps me feel better, even though I'm not sure of how much use they actually are!

I've been to my Pilates class this eve which has really helped get that race out of my system - and my back

MelanieCheeks · 28/06/2015 12:23

Did the first of my long Sunday runs in my training plan - 12.4 km (that's about 8 miles, yes? I tend to measure everything in km)

Ooof, hard work.

ThursdayLast · 28/06/2015 18:49

Well done Melanie - warm today so I expect it was quite hard work.

I did a 5k colour run, that definitely wasn't 5k long - not complaining though! Loads of fun!

Usernamegone · 28/06/2015 20:00

Can join in please? I have just signed up to my first HM. I have been looking at training plans but there all seem to involve running 5 days a week. I'm just worried that my legs will become really tired and/or I will annihilate my knees. I normally exercise 5 times a week at moment. Do you think I would ok with 3 x a week running plus circuits/yoga/resistance training, etc?

ThursdayLast · 28/06/2015 20:08

Hi user! Yes I think that should be totally doable and IMO a much more sensible approach.

A bit of cross training is the way to go as far as I'm concerned.
When is your half?

MelanieCheeks · 28/06/2015 20:09

Start with your familiar 3x a week, and see if you can increase that by replacing some of the other exercise classes as you go along.

Usernamegone · 28/06/2015 22:52

Mid October

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/06/2015 22:56

3 x a week should be plenty, October is still a while away Smile

feetheart · 29/06/2015 15:13

Oh dear, I've just found you all. Another running thread to keep me distracted from RL :o
Having done one half marathon a year for the past 3 years I seem to have entered 3 in 9 weeks over the autumn Hmm

Ohone - you could always do another local one in October you know - I will be providing children with jelly babies at strategic points :)

Username - I've done all 3 of mine on 3-days-a-week training, life didn't allow for anything more. This time I might add an aquafit session in too but only because I want to push myself a bit and train properly to see how well I can do. Would help if I actually started though, 13th September isn't that far away Shock

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2015 20:33

Grin feetheart I will have a look. Which ones are you doing?

feetheart · 29/06/2015 21:54

GNR in Sept, Luton in October and St Neots in November.
If I haven't keeled over by then I may even consider your local one for December.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/06/2015 07:34

Well done for getting a place at St NeotsSmile I was too slowGrin

Luton would be good. Will have a lookSmile
