Thank you Melanie - he does run an awful lot and is twice as fast as me. I am sure he was not being horrible, just a bit tactless!

Cheapandcheerful - wow that is amazing! I am so jealous! Well done to you and your DD - how long is the junior one?

cheapandcheerful · 28/06/2015 23:07

The junior parkrun is 2km and the first time she did it a fortnight ago she walked about 50% of it with lots of foot stamping and protestations. However she immediately said she wanted to 'practise again' and this week she didn't complain once! She is veeeeery slow though Grin

chutneypig · 29/06/2015 06:59

It's my favourite part at the juniors seeing the youngest ones, so much determination and lots of smiles. I was amazed to see so many yesterday because the weather wasn't great and more younger ones than the older front runners.

GammaDelta · 29/06/2015 12:16

Hi All,
I have just started doing park run this month. did 3 till now and enjoying it thoroughly. PB stands at 31:57 don't know how can i do any better. can't seem to run much faster. .n i am one of the last ones at the finishing line. this saturday i ran 7.5km (done one more lap after park run 5k).. plan to do 10-12.5 k this weekend as my goal is to do half marathon end of July. .i know it's not enough preparation. .let's see how it goes. Confused Confused

feetheart · 29/06/2015 14:56

PB of 31:57 is pretty damn good after only 3 parkruns, you definitely wouldn't be one of the last ones at ours. Keep going and the PBs will come, the joy of parkrun is that there is always next week :)

Re a half marathon - an autumn one would be a more realistic target I would think - I'm just starting my half marathon training now for 3 halfs in the autumn and I usually run 2-3 times a week and have done for a good few years, trying to cram in lots of training too quickly will just get you injured.

GammaDelta · 29/06/2015 17:15

thanks fretheart i actually want to do the three peak challenge this year.. because next year i might not be in uk. hence i am pushing myself as much as i can i know it's very unrealistic. . let's see what happens. thanks again

chutneypig · 29/06/2015 18:37

Hello Gamma. My PB is around there too, I'd love to get sub 30 but slightly struggling to know how to get there. I'm trying to work on my pace a bit, I got a Garmin last week so hoping that will help me get a better feel for things.

My DD has started doing parkrun with me which is lovely but is slowing me down a bit. Whereas DS just flogs me to run faster but I'm too slow for him and he moans about being close to the back.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/06/2015 20:57

Welcome Gamma Smile

My parkruns are anywhere between 29 and 32 minutes, depending on how well I've slept, whether I had wine the night before, what kind of week I've had, time of the month, the weather...

Fox DH's seem to have a bit of a habit of saying daft things.

I had a nice time at Corby, it was blooming hot but there was some shade in the woods.

Wimpole this weekend with lovely cinners. DS1 is coming along too.

Looking forward to it OhOneOhTwoOhThree Smile not sure my boys are! Ds1&2 are looking forward to the farm, dh and dss are grumpy as usual Wink. You will have to show me the way!

GammaDelta · 30/06/2015 22:46

thanks OhOneOhTwoOhThree i really wish i could do sub 30. last well i had planned to do 7.5 -10 k but just the stress of it made me stay awake till 3-4 am. anyways this week plan is to do 10k let's see if i even catch a wink or notGrin Wink
hi chutneypig yes aiming to do that too... talks for your support. will let you know how it goes this Saturday Grin Smile

GammaDelta · 01/07/2015 05:42

by the way ladies, how do you increase your speed.. do you think the 1-2-3 approach really works?

steppemum · 01/07/2015 22:03

what is the 1-2-3 approach?

I have run LOADS of 5 k runs now (well, loads for me, at least 10) and I am not getting any faster and it isn't getting any easier.

Finally get to do parkrun again this weekend and will roll in last again.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/07/2015 14:42

Personally I think that as you increase your distance your pace over the shorter distances increased steppemum but interval training works too. I hate training but since I haven't been able to make it at my club my 5k time is about 2 mins slower Sad

GammaDelta · 02/07/2015 15:03

hi steppemum see below link for 1-2-3 approach

hi Gamma

steppe you must stop being so hard on yourself! All the people coming in ahead of you have been running 5ks for 10 years probably. You really must stop comparing yourself with them Smile

Running is such a natural progression, just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll soon surprise yourself I promise!

Looking forward to parkrun tomorrow, just a normal one for me.

steppemum · 03/07/2015 10:49

I am buzzing, (have been since yesterday morning, but only just got online)

I ran 6.5 Km yesterday, got up early was back home jumping up and down with glee by 7:30!

I am buzzing because - (I use an app to talk to me as I run) my best pace is 8 min per km. For the last 2 weeks I have been doing 8mins 30 seconds, 8 min 15 seconds etc.

So, yesterday, I was doing 8min 4 seconds all the way to 5km, I was pretty pleased with that. Then I kept running, and was so buzzed that I could comfortably keep going, that I ran faster and came in at average pace of 7 min 59 seconds.

Feel like I have conquered the world Grin

doing parkrun on sat, and have a goal of coming in in 40 minutes.

steppemum · 03/07/2015 10:50

Oh and there was big hill in that last 1.5 km (up hill!)

and I sprinted for home, all the way down my road!

Blatherskite · 03/07/2015 14:29

After a couple of weeks of running 'at home', I'm off for some more tourism tomorrow. It's my friend's birthday and she wants to do a fancy dress run so I'll be going as Tinkerbell.

Thank goodness no-one will know me! Wink

MyBlackCat · 03/07/2015 17:54

Well done steppe I'm going to miss Parkrun for the next couple of weeks as I'm off on holiday tomorrow Grin I will actually miss it too, haven't been able to run this week apart from a treadmill interval session last Sunday - I've not braved the heat, except for playing netball last night.

I've found the treadmill best for intervals and speed work. I work out what my kph is to do 5km in a certain time then so intervals of 2-3 mins at that pace with 1 min walk between x10.

There are plenty of conversion charts online for the speed thing x

standingonlego · 03/07/2015 19:56

Hooray it is Parkrun eve - that is all Grin

officelady · 03/07/2015 20:37

Hellloooo parkrunners! Long time lurker, infrequent poster here Smile
I have come out from beneath my cloak of invisibility to let out a SQUEEEE because tomorrow it is the inaugural Parkrun of a location not 3 miles from where I live! Hurrah!! No more early mornings and long drives and deciding which of the "local" Parkruns to do Grin
I'm volunteering but secretly wish I was running. But I have supported the guys who have fought to set up the Parkrun over the last year and can't let them down on day one. We are worried there will be a trillion runners, none of whom have registered. However I cannot deny I have got an excited feeling in my tummy ...

ThursdayLast · 03/07/2015 20:41

Ooh office that IS exciting! Good luck, can't wait to hear about it tomorrow!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/07/2015 20:50
