I have a night out on the 26th so I should think I'll be lucky if I make it to my local parkrun on the 27th kimmi. I'm due at Walsall the week after. Pity I'll miss you :(

feetheart · 16/06/2015 11:16

When is Luton pencilled in? Need to make sure I'm there with cake :)

MelanieCheeks · 16/06/2015 11:27

I'll be in London on 11 July - MIGHT get to Bushy Park, but if not, will re-do Crane Park and try to get a pb.

Still have 4 Norn Irn ones to do to complete the set, I'd better get cracking if I want to do that before my 100th!

steppemum · 16/06/2015 11:42

It is really interesting reading about how you all go round and do all the parkruns. I had just got as far as doing my local one, hadn't thought about the rest..

...wanders off to google other parkruns...

MelanieCheeks · 16/06/2015 11:50

Some do, many don't! For me, I'm never going to be very fast, but this is another target I can achieve.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/06/2015 12:56

I'm event director at mine steppemum so don't often go elsewhere. I've run 72 times and 67 have been at home plus 30sobething volunteering stints. Mine is literally 1/3rd of a mile from my house so it's easy to run up there and not get up too early. As there are a few local to me I would like to try them all if I can but tricky with an ebf 9 week old at the moment, hence why dh and all boys are coming to Wimpole with me Wink

Blatherskite · 16/06/2015 13:11

I did loads at 'home' before I started touring. I've now done 119 parkruns and 73 have been at my local event.

Luton is pencilled in for the 11th July feet :)

HalleLouja · 16/06/2015 14:44

11th July you say Blathers. Will try and make it to Luton then. Am doing Panshanger on Saturday for the first time. That will make 5 different parkruns.

ThursdayLast · 16/06/2015 16:47

I don't travel much - there only three in the whole of Cornwall and it's a long county!
I made the effort to go to an inaugural one recently, and have visited the one in Southend when it tied in with a family event Smile

I'd love to visit more, but it's tricky logistically.

cheapandcheerful · 16/06/2015 20:52

A quick and probably stupid question about parkrun t-shirts... how do you get one? Do you buy them? Apply for them? Receive one automatically when you hit 50 runs or whatever?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/06/2015 20:59

cheap-you earn them for running 10 (if you are a junior)Smile 50 or 100 times (or 250 for the super-committedGrin ). Also if you volunteer 25 times. You get an email to tell you it is time to order your shirt.

There was a change of supplier a few months ago so lots of us are waiting. I am on 80-odd runs but still don't have my 50 shirt Smile

Thanks ohOne :)

feetheart · 17/06/2015 21:46

I will be around on the 11th but I have a Guided Running course at 10.30 so won't be able to hang around, chat and eat cake :(
However it could be a good week for coming high up the finishers list as we have our first parkrun curry night the night before (the absolute joy of having our post-parkrun coffee in Luton Town and Indians cricket club whose curry nights are legendary :o)

BobblesAndClips · 18/06/2015 10:04

Just popping on to say 'Hi'! I only started doing parkruns this year and am still in single figures, but love doing them and looking forward to Saturday morning already, as I can actually make it this week.

feetheart · 18/06/2015 16:50

Hello Bobbles and welcome. A lovely thread full of parkrun addicts here :)

chutneypig · 18/06/2015 20:28

Hello Bobbles. Same here, started this year and in single figures. But ever so slightly addicted Grin. And I've dragged the whole family along with me.

ThursdayLast · 18/06/2015 20:49

Hi bobbles!

chutneypig · 18/06/2015 21:18

Meant to ask feetheart what's a guided running course?

BobblesAndClips · 18/06/2015 21:39

Hello (again!)

Chutney thats impressive getting the family to do it too. I love seeing the kids run round and having a great time. My oldest is not quite 5, I dont think she's up to it yet Grin

feetheart · 18/06/2015 23:34

chutneypig - it's a course the sports bit of the council are running to help sighted runners who want to guide blind and visually impaired runners. It is also a chance for blind and VI runners to find a guide/guides. They haven't done it before but it is something I have wanted to do since watching the VI relays live at the Paralympics - imagine a stadium of 80,000 people being completely silent so the runners can hear the instructions during the baton changes then a complete explosion of noise after the last changeover as the runners hammer down the finishing straight. Absolutely awesome and still makes me shiver to describe it :)
I am never going to be a sprinter so relays are out but I can plod/run longer distances and love company when I run. I may also be a leetle bit passionate about the inclusivity of parkrun :o
Melanie - have you finished your course? I think yours was much more involved than my 3 hour one.

chutneypig · 19/06/2015 08:28

That's fantastic feetheart and good to see council support for that sort of training. I think I'll see if I can find a clip of the Paralympics.

Have you got a junior parkrun near you Bobbles? We have some very happy five year olds at ours. My two started the junior parkrun after I did a charity run earlier this year but have both started the 5k as well, although they're a few years older than your daughter. DS is very keen on getting his 10 T shirt. And his half marathon wrist band. We're all aiming for parkrun Saturday and I'm marshalling at the juniors on Sunday. We spend a lot of time in the park Grin.

steppemum · 19/06/2015 11:24

wow love the guiding running.

Can't run tomorrow as dd has a sleepover I can leave dd at home for an hour, but not dd plus friend.
So went out today, and ran 5km.
Interesting though, I ran first half much faster (use a phone app and I was doing 7min 25 seconds per km which is about 30 seconds per km faster than I have ever done.) then really struggled with the second half, but still came in at overall pace 8 minutes per km, which is what I usually do overall, but means the last 1.5 km was very very slow.

So you clever running people, is this the way to go to improve speed? Or should I do it the other way round, push the pace in the second half, or do intervals or...

(OK I am chuffed to bits that I ran 3.5 km at the faster pace and still finished!)

chutneypig · 19/06/2015 13:04

I'm definitely no expert but I had a parkrun just like that a few weeks back. The week after I set my phone so that I ran 3k without stopping trying to keep to the faster pace, then had 20sec walk breaks then two minutes running and repeated that until the end. Knocked two minutes off my time (yet to be repeated).

cheapandcheerful · 19/06/2015 15:57

Quick question for all you regulars...

What do you do with car keys, phone etc. while you run? I did my first parkrun without my cheerleaders (dh and dc) last week and it completely hadn't occurred to me that I would have to take my carkeys around with me! I have a pocket in the back of my running shorts for my phone but my keys wouldn't fit so I just carried them around in my hand. A bit of a nuisance.

I noticed that some people had running-style bum-bags. Do any of you use anything like this? Are they any good?

ThursdayLast · 19/06/2015 16:04

I take my actual car key off and just take that around with me. I leave everything else in the car Smile

I have requested a fit belt for my birthday though, for longer runs.
