Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

ohone that three day event sounds fun but mad, did your legs not feel like lead by day three?

Re a marathon I couldn't.commit to the time needed for training at my with dps shifts. Every now.and.then I think maybe I should do one.before I.turn 40. Am 36... So a while to think about it. The half is enough.for me.

I.did a quick 3.1 yesterday as dp was late home and my hips have been niggling me. Am planning 10miles tomorrow which will be my longest run yet! Have drawn out a route online. 8 was Ok so I am thinking it's just another 20mins... Hmm slightly nervous but need to do.it. The half is 19th April. So a ten mile and 12 mile.run before then plus some short runs and maybe a couple.of 8 mile runs. That should be Ok?!!

5madthings · 13/03/2015 10:52

poppy I think.that. Sounds realistic yes. But mad!

twobambinos · 13/03/2015 11:36

5mad things that sounds like a good plan for the half. i got up to 10miles and did that for maybe 3 weeks and then i did 11 13 and 13 and then 6.

ok i have one measly mile to add today. i was at a hardcore pilates class last night too. i hope i am ok for sunday .

twobambinos · 13/03/2015 11:37

675.1

couldnt see the total to add on my one mile the computer is even mocking me.

5madthings · 13/03/2015 12:50

Plus my 3.1 is 678.2

5madthings · 13/03/2015 12:51

I have just arranged to meet with a friend in the morning to do fist 5km with her then I shall do the next 11-12 km on my own. By arranging to meet her I will get up and out first thing and get it done!

5madthings · 13/03/2015 12:52

Plus breaking it down into km makes it seem Ok, I can do 10km fine then it's only another 4 and a bit km, that's nothing!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/03/2015 13:06

Thanks for adding my miles cinnamon, I was in a rush this morning and forgot Smile

Good to see you back running poppy

5mad braking things down is the best way IME Smile

Yes, my three day thing was fun but mad - it was at the height of summer so I was worn out by the end with running in the heat.

familygermsareok · 13/03/2015 15:18

I had my alarm set for 5:30am too, got up and did 5m of intervals for the first time in ages. I don't like them much but I can motivate myself to do them in the weeks leading up to a race as they make a noticeable difference to my pace and endurance. How do you all do yours? Mine are very rough and ready, there is only one suitable flat straight road around here which runs through our village ( and has a pavement and street lighting as bonus). I use set intersecting roads or driveways as my points to sprint/recovery jog but it is not scientific at all . I generally get up early to do them so no one sees me except the odd dog walker Blush. I am not at all sure if I am doing them right. Any tips?

Good luck to all who have races this weekend
aggressive hope you are feeling better and ok for it.
twobambinos just enjoy the experience and don't stress about the time. And give yourself a huge pat on the back at the end for a fantastic achievement Smile

familygermsareok · 13/03/2015 15:19

Whoops, 683.2

Anglaise1 · 13/03/2015 17:31

Good luck with your 10 miles tomorrow 5mad. You'll be fine. Just set off at a nice easy pace, and take something to drink.
Family when I do intervals on my own I do them on the road, it isn't busy but quite flat. I measure the distance on my GPS so I know, 200m or 300m and then I do them in the time set by my club coach, usually 45-48 secs for 200m, 1m12-1m18 for 300m with the same time as recup in between each one.
Last longish run of marathon training today (12 miles) and it went really well. 1h15m at 10kph, 35mins at 12kph. I'm sure having an isotonic drink and a fruit jelly after the 1h15 helped keep up the extra pace at the end. My big mistake is always to set off too fast so I always do the first half of a race faster than the second. All élite runners have the opposite way of running, they set off more slowly and then speed up for the second half. Will try to do that in the marathon.
695.2

stilllearnin · 13/03/2015 20:00

698.2 I actually enjoyed it too!!

LaughingM · 13/03/2015 20:11

Wahoo! Managed 5 miles pain free tonight after my hip/IT band injury two weeks ago (up to now have only been doing 2-3 as it's been niggling on and off) so feel very pleased that I might be able to start building it up again. Would really like to get to that half in May...

703.2

Neeko · 13/03/2015 20:41

A slow and treacle-like 3.3 from me. Not sure my body agreed with my head about running Arthur end of the working week! Smile

706.5

familygermsareok · 13/03/2015 20:44

Thanks Anglaise that is very useful. I will check the distances and times for my sections and maybe rejig them a bit. I really had no idea how far I was supposed to make the intervals and my 'technique' was just to leg it as fast as I could for the fast bits and then collapse in a heap jog very slowly while I got my breath back, picking it up a bit with a few metres to go before the next sprint. I suspect my recovery bits may be somewhat longer than my fast bits!!
Your training sounds well in hand for Rome, that is great going Smile
I am really bad for setting off too fast too ( although hm is my furthest so far). I am better at holding back in a hm now but in a 5 or 10k I can never convince myself that I will make up the time at the end.

Great to hear from everyone else out running and enjoying it too Smile

familygermsareok · 13/03/2015 20:47

Or even just out running despite protesting bodies Wink

EdithDickie · 14/03/2015 07:26

Catching up as been MIA this week.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

Had a moderately eventful running week.

Did 5.3 miles on Monday morning before work. Felt good, hip thing better and decent (for me anyway!) pace.

Then things kept happening! Tuesday my ankle and knee really hurt so didn't go out. Then meetings on Wednesday and Thursday threw my lunchtime running plans out the window.

However been doing lots of yoga and upper body strength stuff and - big news in my life Grin - I can soooo nearly do a chin up! Just another inch or so and my chin will be over the bar.

Then.... a scary and terrifying but VERY exciting thing..... I am taking part in a 24 hour endurance event in May - get as many 5 mile laps done as a team as you can.

Had to be solo entry or teams of 2, 3, 5 or 8. We have entered one team of 3 and two of 5. I was on a 5 but one of the team of 3 has been troubled with injury and not done very much training as a result so she asked me to swap and now I am in line for 8 hours of running out of the 24!!! Very excited about it and also very scared!

Then yesterday I did 12.23 miles split over 2 runs AND I bought new trainers!

Suzannewithaplan · 14/03/2015 08:10

Congratulations on the chin up Edith :o
I'm sure more reps will follow soon!
Good news on the hip problem, mine has improved but I think I need to reduce my mileage really ?
too many miles, too much pounding

actiongirl1978 · 14/03/2015 08:10

Edithdickie I am doing the same type of event at the beginning of June! Terrifying isn't it!? I am on a team of five and the idea of running so much through the night makes me feel a bit sick, but I am sure it will be a lot of fun.

I have been reading all the posts but so much has happened on here since Monday I am not going to try to keep up!

Familygermsareok I do intervals by setting my garmin to minute intervals. I then sprint (not all out about to be sick type running, but end of a race, running tall, consistently fast type running - a notch up from race pace) and then I jog or walk for a minute depending on the day and how I feel.

I usually do nine minutes on, nine off which is about two miles. As it is a four mile route I do a mile warm up and jog the last mile back to the car. I do mine on country lanes and through a rural village, and as I have my sunnies on and music loud, I neither notice nor care what anyone thinks of me! I don't know what distances this equates to though, if I look at my watch any more than I do, I'll never finish the run!

I am adding 9 miles from this week, four intervals on weds and five tempo yesterday which went remarkably well as I rarely do tempo runs any more, it seems my tempo speed is average about 9.30min/mile which is ok I think?. I am skipping my LSR this week as I am running in a friends inaugural trail 10k this afternoon, which on top of my tempo five yesterday should do for a weekend.

727.8 which is including edithdickies miles and rounding up the .23 to 3!

Nice Fartlek this morning, 4.6 miles so 632.4

AggressiveBunting · 14/03/2015 10:10

proudly adding 31.2 miles to make 663.6. 50km technical trail race with 2650 metres of elevation. Thought I was going to puke, die, cry and collapse at least once. Swore a lot. Battled through it and came 3rd in the Women's Open. Yay!! So happy as it was my first 50k and my last race before I cross from open to seniors so a lovely way to close that chapter.

Neeko · 14/03/2015 10:31

Wow Agressivebunting! Well done. That was impressive. Smile

Anglaise1 · 14/03/2015 11:05

Brilliant work Aggressive! You should be very proud. That level of elevation is an awful lot to deal with on top of the 50k. And a podium too, really well done! Have a nice easy weekend now.

ThursdayLast · 14/03/2015 11:16

That sounds exciting Edith though I can't understand your apprehension!

Well done Aggressive!

I have a desultory 5k from last night and a cracking PB from parkrun this morning to add

669.8

familygermsareok · 14/03/2015 11:50

Fantastic aggressive, that is brilliant Grin . Flowers for your podium place too! Hope you are enjoying a well deserved rest now.

edith and actiongirl your events sound great fun. I can't imagine doing that solo though, do they get many entering as a team of 1??
It is useful to hear how you do intervals too. I need to get mine sorted. I am a bit too lax at giving myself a shorter fast run and longer recovery.

Congrats on your parkrun PB Thursday Smile

3.1 parkrun miles from me today
