Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

IrianofWay · 05/03/2015 11:10

Amazingly enough is OK thanks emummy. Just bruised and sore. I can't quite beleive he is still with us.

emummy · 05/03/2015 11:15

Very glad to hear he's ok

TheSkinnyProject · 05/03/2015 14:55

Been poorly with a shitty cold Sad

Only 2 on Monday and 2.5 this morning. Hopefully get a longer run in this weekend.

Total 227.5

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2015 16:27

That's lucky IrianofWay, hope he's gets less sore soon!

I meet some very rude people emummy! I tend to say you're welcome very loudly when I get out of someone's way and they don't say anything :(

Anglaise1 · 05/03/2015 17:38

IrianofWay your poor dog! What a relief that he escaped with a few bruises and nothing more serious.
I wasn't going to run today but did 4 miles with the dog instead of walking as I was short of time.
Suzanne I did my 'effort test' today. It was on a bike rather than a treadmill which was a shame, the doctors said the bike was more accurate. I don't quite understand all the figures and what they mean but my VO2 max is 39 is well over the average for my age group and sex. My ventilatory threshold is 85% of VO2 max which is high too, and probably accounts for why I can chat to other runners during a 10km race. I don't really understand what all the data means but it was quite fun to do the test.
231.5

Suzannewithaplan · 05/03/2015 18:03

Thanks for sharing Anglaise, thats very interesting, you are bound to be well above average because the 'average' person doesnt exercise at all!

not claiming to be any kind of expert here but I've informally researched these things a bit...AFAIk VO2 max is activity specific so my guess is that your number would be higher if they did a treadmill test.
Did you get a figure for maximum heart rate?
I've recorded mine at 192, which surprised me because until I started running Id never seen it anything like that high (i train with HR monitor frequently so I've a good idea of what my hr is for various activities)

Also the rule of thumb for max HR is 220 - age so mine ought not to be able to get past 170ish...I dont think that has anything to do with how fit or trained you are

Anglaise1 · 05/03/2015 18:14

Suzanne I think the VO2 max would have been higher on the treadmill. Online calculators for my 10k race speed (46 mins) puts it at 44. My legs aren't used to cycling!
Max heart rate was 171 which funnily enough corresponds exactly to your 220-age calculation.
Ventilatory response was 135 but I've no idea what that means, if anything.

Suzannewithaplan · 05/03/2015 18:28

?
Quite possibly your heart would go higher running Anglaise, even standing up in the pedals uphill against the wind I've never seen mine over 160 on a bike.
Running is a whole 'nother story!?

Anglaise1 · 05/03/2015 20:38

Suzanne I'm sure you are right. I've never had the fatigue I get running with cycling, but then its probably due to lack of effort! Never had the endorphins from cycling either, which is why running is definitely more my sport.

actiongirl1978 · 06/03/2015 07:15

Hi all, clocking in my four miles from weds. I started a tempo run and managed two fast miles, my second was my fastest at 8.46 which I was delighted with but no sustainable. I then did a lovely two miles of intervals.

Supposed to be long running today but I have felt ill since yesterday morning, combo of period, cold, some manner of virus. Think I will do a short gym session then head back to the sofa. Or even maybe nothing at all.

The weekend will be filled yet again with children's parties and cake so not holding out much hope for my waistline!

Anglaise how did you go about getting yourself tested? Presumably you went somewhere private and paid (.assume all private in French France?)

Emummy send those ladies glares if you see them again. How rude! I even get trucks and lorries pulling in or out for me to let me past, why would a walker be so difficult?

for those with a ?virus I recommend homemade curry? Wink

Anglaise1 · 06/03/2015 09:45

Action No, France has public and private, the SECU reimburses around 70% of all treatment and most people have private top up insurance. Because the effort test is recommended for women practising endurance sports after the age of 40, if you have a prescription from your GP it is re-imbursed. The SECU pay 110€ and the rest is covered by my mutuelle top up insurace. The total was around 250€ including the VO2 test (the effort test is usually just to ensure there are no heart problems).
Suzanne glad to hear the curry worked!
10 miles from Sam-the-border-collie and me this morning.

6.4 miles this morning. Beautiful weather here today. Makes it so much easier to get out and run.

IrianofWay · 06/03/2015 11:26

3 miles with the running club last night (without dog!) 734.92.

IrianofWay · 06/03/2015 11:27

What? Where did that come from?

emummy · 06/03/2015 11:41

4.1 fartlek session today, was surprisingly good fun, I don't often enjoy speed work. Very windy again, wish it would go away.

Anglaise, I love everything I hear about the French system!

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 06/03/2015 13:21

5.7 miles to add here. That makes 268.7.

They were hard miles too. My first run after my HM.

Suzannewithaplan · 06/03/2015 15:11

12.78 from me =
281.48

not my most enjoyable run, piriformis area hurting the whole time :(
I think it's been triggered by adding deadlifts to my leg training should know better with my history of sciatica and lower back issues
Hopefully with appropriate stretching and change of exercises the pain in the bum will stop!

runtothehills · 06/03/2015 18:43

Managed one day skiing yesterday, but battled with the wind and deteriorating snow due to the mild weather. So today opted for a run instead on the Balmoral Estate (is this were your 10k is emummy ?). Wind was still very wild.

8 miles = 289.48

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/03/2015 20:53

2.5 miles around the Royal Parks in the late afternoon sunshine. I would have liked to have run for longer, but I had to get home.

291.98

Well done runners Smile!

emummy · 06/03/2015 22:08

Yes runtothehills doing the 10k at RunBalmoral. Not looking forward to the hill, although it would probably be a piece of cake for you! The info on the web page ominously states "do not expect a pb"!
Suzanne I hope your piriformis behaves itself! Mine has improved in some ways, I don't get the foot pain now and can run without problems, but sitting is still really uncomfortable and so is driving after about 10 minutes. Have high hopes for my sports massage in 10 days, plus am planning to start yoga next week in a bid to be more flexible. And also to avoid expensive physios!

Suzannewithaplan · 06/03/2015 22:48

Emummy thanks:) I dont have any sciatica nerve symptoms, just a pain deep in the glute, I presume it's piriformis.
I'll go to the physio if it doesnt improve.

There are a few yoga poses which esp target that area, pigeon, cow-face, and double pigeon.

I like to think that daily yoga helps me, I think of it as a kind of self administered low level physio, but I cant know what I'd be like if I didnt do it so who can say Confused
Are you going to go to classes?
