Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

OP posts:

Mums I also use Salomon Speedcross for shorter runs and races (up to 20/25k) and Hoka One One for longer runs. I am 60kg and I find that I need more cushioning for my feet on very rough and rocky ground than the speedcross provides (although my racing snake friend says I just need to man up on that Grin)

I have a bit of a love affair with my Hoka's- unbelievably light (I have the Mafate speed). They're particularly good if you have to do a lot of steep decents as provide awesome cushioning and personally I think they're very stable.

One warning is that the speedcross are truly terrible on wet stone/ concrete but awesome in mud/ scree. Hoka possibly not that great in deep mud and are expensive (although apparently do more miles than the average shoe). Some people think they reduce your nimbleness on very technical trail, but I havent found that to be true.

4 miles from me this morning makes 162.15

MumSnotBU · 04/03/2015 07:13

Thanks aggressive, am going to go for the Speedcross as generally muddy here. I have signed up for a trail running course soon.

emummy · 04/03/2015 11:24

No running today, killer session at boot camp instead. Th e coach gave us a challenge, we're starting with 20 of each exercise, one after the other, to work up to 50 by the end of March. 20 nearly killed me, not looking forward to next week! Think tomorrow's run will be a bit slow!

Neeko · 04/03/2015 11:42

3.15 from me this morning makes

165.3

Anglaise1 · 04/03/2015 11:53

Mumsnot I have Mizuno trail shoes but will definitely go for Salomon next time as my friend who runs ultra trails (80km +)uses them and highly recommends them.
16 miles from me today
181.3

Suzannewithaplan · 04/03/2015 15:26

10.25 from me
191.55

feel very slightly under the weather so spent much of the run asking myself
'do you really feel up to this Suzanne?
Is that the start of a sore throat or just a bit dry from running into the wind?
Are you sure the endorphins and what not arent masking the fact that you're going down with a bug'

Expected a big thumbs down from the garmin when I got back but was surprised to see that I'd actually been a little faster (aka less slow) than normal.

I hope I'm not going to be ill!
Maybe if I have curry tonight that'll kill it off:o

Anglaise1 · 04/03/2015 16:34

Running today into the (cold)wind was hard for me to today Suzanne. If you managed to be a little faster than normal while doing that I'd say you are OK. Your speed is a good indicator of your health. Just before my kidney infection I did a 10 mile run and was out of breath at 9km an hour (usually my easy runs are 10 - 10.5 km/h. I realised why when I was very ill the next day.
Enjoy your curry if you have one Envy There's not much I miss regarding UK food but a decent curry is near the top of the list

Suzannewithaplan · 04/03/2015 16:49

that makes total sense Anglaise, I still feel below par but it cant be anything serious or I'd have had a worse run

I'm used to running into the wind because I always run on the seafront, I consider running other places but never do...the sea is like a magnet.
I just want to spend as much time absorbing the light, the air the energy from the sea as I can (please excuse me slipping into new age hippy modeBlush )

I wouldnt be tooEnvy
my curries are somewhat puritanical, deliberately medicinal even, homemade lentil and vegetable....not exactly anyones idea of 'cheat food' thats for sure :o

ThursdayLast · 04/03/2015 17:05

Speaking of curry, I just bought one of those certainly-not-medicinal-in-fact-worryingly-cheap-curry boxes from Tesco for our tea tonight.
Hence the impromptu 5k ish I just did with the dog. Beautiful clear and light evening down here still chilly though.

194.7

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 04/03/2015 17:09

3.2 from me yesterday. And a PB for 5K! Grin
I feel in really good shape for my HM in just over two weeks. Have probably jinxed it now and I will injure myself!
New total is 197.9.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/03/2015 17:33

I love the sea too Suzannewithaplan! I always find it so relaxing whenever we go, Dh and I would love to live by the coast, not great prospects for our kids though!

MumSnotBU · 04/03/2015 17:36

I tried on the Speedcross and needed a size up, got a bargain Gtx version and only £74.99...Grin Luckily dh bought a bike recently so at least these seem cheap in comparison...

Rest day today, running with club tomorrow but on road.

stilllearnin · 04/03/2015 18:16

I am caught in secondary school admission handwringing so very quickly just checking in with 2 miles of intervals. Getting slightly easier after my long break! I'm calling it 200

Deliaskis · 04/03/2015 20:34

A paltry 2.3 from me today, but good to get out in an evening again :-)

Total 203.3

Deliaskis · 04/03/2015 20:35

Whoops! I mean 202.3. Sorry.

Suzannewithaplan · 04/03/2015 20:37

Cinnamon, it's true seaside towns tend to be down at heel with little to do and not great job prospects, I like that sort of life but my kids left for the bright lights/big city life..way too boring for them here!

5madthings · 04/03/2015 20:38

9km from me tonight, what's that in mikes 5 something? I really did not feel like running but made myself go saying iwwould do an easy 5km and once I got going I felt like I was flying. Was tempted to round it up to 10km but didn't want to push it. My hips felt fine. Wahey I am buzzing!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/03/2015 22:04

Glad your hip held out 5mad.

3.4 slow and steady miles from me tonight, first time out since Sunday, plus 5mad's 5.6 = 9

202.3

cinnamongreyhound · 04/03/2015 22:10

Should be 211.3 I think OhOneOhTwoOhThree?

Off to bed now ready for my 6am run tomorrow, hopefully the sun will be up even sooner than last weeks :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/03/2015 23:27

Yes cinnamon addition fail there!

AggressiveBunting · 05/03/2015 01:56

Mums Oh yes- I meant to mention that the Speedcross run a bit small- glad you tried them on.

I am sick as a dog- feel like my throat's been sandpapered and am super snotty. Taking a break for a few days as want to get rid asap in order to be on form for my race next weekend.

cinnamongreyhound · 05/03/2015 08:25

Get well soon AggressiveBunting!

Beautiful 4 miles from me this morning! We didn't actually need the head torches, was light enough to see although darkish but very soon proper light! We saw a small group of proper deer, 2 swans, 3 coots and my little dog chasing a hare which was probably over half her size. 215.3

5madthings · 05/03/2015 09:29

Feel better soon aggressive

No running from me today its a rest day, well as much as any of my days are restful...

IrianofWay · 05/03/2015 10:29

4 miles from me on Tuesday evening. Would have been further but my dog got hit by a car Sad Hideous! Suffice to say he won't be running with me any more.

emummy · 05/03/2015 11:02

Oh no Irian, is he ok? So sorry, what a horrible thing to happen.

3.7 miles from me this morning on a hilly trail in the forest. Was a lovely day, spoiled a bit by 3 rude women who blocked the path! I was running fast down a very narrow track on a steep hill, they were right at the bottom but just marched up so I had to jump off the track into the trees. Not impressed! And so unusual for around here, where everyone is usually very considerate. Never mind.
So my 3.7 plus Irian's 4 is 223 I think
