Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

OP posts:
5madthings · 02/03/2015 16:11

run yep i get spd in pregnancy so ithink it is related to the pregnancy and miscarriage, my hormones will have gone mad. I have stretched really well and done some hip strenghtening exercises and will do thrm every day. It feels fine now, its more niggly than painful so fingers crossed it will be a short lived annoyance.

itsveryyou · 02/03/2015 20:37

A pleasant indoor 3.1 miles from me today. And after the disappointment of missing the HM this weekend due to the ice, a friend and I are just about to sign up for another HM in September, once we're living back in the UK - whoop!

EdithDickie · 03/03/2015 07:41

Hope that your hip is better soon 5mad.

I have 5.5 miles to add from yesterday. Was visiting a friend and ran in Windsor Great Park before breakfast. It was quiet and cold and bracing. Lots of deer. I felt like I was in a Nike advert!

EdithDickie · 03/03/2015 07:43

I make that 115.5 now.

Rest day for me today but should have a few to add tomorrow. And, excitingly, my foam roller should get delivered tomorrow Grin

familygermsareok · 03/03/2015 10:14

Fresh snow overnight again. Sunny and bright. Lovely run this morning making fresh tracks through virgin snow sparkling in the sunshine. I also felt like I should be in some kind of advert Grin. Wish I could have been out for longer but lots to do today.

6.6 makes 122.1

emummy · 03/03/2015 10:49

An easy 4 miles from me, first run of hm training plan. Beautiful sunny day, bit windy, no snow! Think the snow has decided to skip my corner of Aberdeenshire this winter, not that I'm complaining!

126.1

Suzannewithaplan · 03/03/2015 11:07

Wish I could have been out for longer but lots to do today

Seems that many on this thread would like to spend more time running but just can't.
I'm wondering if your partners curtail their leisure activities/hobbies to a similar degree ?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 03/03/2015 12:52

126.1 + 3.3 from me last night is 129.4

I did hills on the treadmill, which is actually a bit crap because there is only flat or uphill, no downhill!

Glad you're feeling better 5mad.

AggressiveBunting · 03/03/2015 13:21

Well done everyone. I've had two ' cannot be arsed' days post race but promised a friend I'll see her at Crossfit tomorrow morning so at least I'll run there and back, and then I'll try to do a proper run on Thursday and Saturday.

actiongirl1978 · 03/03/2015 14:36

suzanne my husband doesn't really have any leisure time so no, definitely not. I feel guilty spending so much time on myself, particularly the long run which turns into a real negotiation each weekend "if you take one child to a party, and the other to it's club, can I run then, and when you get back I will do the next party and bathtime". But until he complains I will keep going out!

Interesting what you said above about trying to schedule everything. I try to get 5 days a week in, one of those days generally has to have a double activity if I want to get three runs, two gym visits and a pilates class in! I was deadlifting today which is fine because tomorrow is intervals, but I don't do heavy leg work the day before my long run as I am too knackered!

madthings I hope your hip is feeling better.
edith enjoy the foam roller!

Is anyone else excited about the weather forecast of 21c for Easter?!

OP posts:
runtothehills · 03/03/2015 14:49

actiongirl1978 no I want to get some more skiing in!! Have 2 days off (child free) later this week in which I'm hoping to get some done. Content today with 4 miles in the snow up by Braemar whilst a friend had an interview for a countryside ranger post (sounds idilic Envy) if she gets it I'll have to pay lots of visits.

suzanne it's a bit like trading with my OH, if you do this so I can go for a run, I'll do this that and the other etc. He does suggest I spend my 2 days off midweek "running and reading books" but does acknowledge I do a lot of other things in between!

133.4

IrianofWay · 03/03/2015 15:23

Hello

Was here a bit last year then stopped posting (but not running). Trying to run 5 days a week now instead of just 3. Booked onto a 10K in april and in June. Possibly also in may if I can get the website to recognise my affiiation number!

twobambinos · 03/03/2015 16:02

1.5 intervals from me total 134.9

im very tired today.

congrats to all on the half marathons and the brilliant times too. last weekend was a new pb for me but only in training so i dont know if on the day it will go better or worse. i suppose it will depend a bit on the weather and what way the wind is blowing.

congrats on the podium finish sorry the name is gone off the screen but you know who you are.

madthings hope your hips are easing up a bit. i had spd in my last pregnancy and after. i wonder sometimes is that what causes my pain after long runs. doesnt seem to be too bad at all after anything up to 10km but beyond that i literally have to take the next day off. or perhaps it doms as someone else talked about.

i keep kicking my ankle with my other leg and the last day i came in from a run my sock was soaked in blood. i suppose it looked worse than it was because i got absolutely soaked in the rain too. note to self do not wear white socks running.

hello everyone else hope all is good with everyone.

itsveryyou im sorry about your half marathon that is devastating. maybe you can sign up for something a bit sooner. it would be a shame to waste all the effort training and september is a long way off

familygermsareok · 03/03/2015 16:17

emummy I am in Angus so just a bit south of you and runtothehills I think. I would offer you some of our snow but it has mostly melted away now. It was perfect running snow though, satisfyingly crunchy underfoot but not too wet or slippy Grin
Have either of you done the Braemar hm? I am thinking about it this year.

Suzanne to be honest I get more leisure time than DH, certainly more flexible time anyway. I work about 17 paid hours a week on average compared to his 50 or so. In return I do the vast majority of housework, childcare and general household organising but now the DC are at school I have 2 days a week I can organise to suit myself and I generally prioritise a run over cleaning/shopping. DH does get a bit more time at weekends for golf/cycling but he not infrequently misses out on these if DC have activities in different places at same time. He also works some weekends too. We try and keep it as fair as possible so we both get to do our stuff.

Welcome back Irian good luck in your 10ks. Maybe you could do one every month of the year (like the woman who managed to ski in Scotland every month one year) Wink

MumSnotBU · 03/03/2015 16:18

Hi all, I was on here a while ago (namechange), still running but got obsessed with Strava so have not been adding my mileage here...sorry.

14k today, which is 8.75 miles, I think.

I was also after recommendations for trail/fell shoes. I have always had New Balance stabilty ones for road running and was wondering if the trail ones are good? There are some good bargains on sports shoes just now with extra 10% today (other websites available-not an advert honest!).

Any advice appreciated, we live in the back end of nowhere so not easy to get gait analysis, but never had a problem with feet (touch wood) although I do tend to pronate. I have never tried flat minimal type shoes-a bit worried about rocking the boat with something new.

MumSnotBU · 03/03/2015 16:26

When is the Braemar? We had some great skiing in Scotland this half term, but too much snow to run. I think dog walking in deep snow must count as some sort of running drill though Wink

emummy · 03/03/2015 16:47

Brae at looks like fun family but will probably do Crathes which is at a similar time - that is if I ever want to run a half again after Edinburgh! Thanks for the kind offer of your snow, I must decline! Braemar is on 13th Sept Mum

familygermsareok · 03/03/2015 16:53

MumSnotBU it is on 13 Sept. I don't know how to link but if you google eventfull.biz and go into sporting events you will find it.
I've thought about it previous years but Sept is a busy month for us with family birthdays so weekends tend to be full. It is a there and back which I'm not so keen on but should be pretty scenic.

familygermsareok · 03/03/2015 17:02

emummy I have looked at Crathes too, it looks lovely. I am sure you will be bitten by the hm bug after Edinburgh Wink

runtothehills · 03/03/2015 19:00

family and mum not doing Braemar HM but doing Lairig Ghru Hill Race end of June which goes from Braemar to Aviemore, 27 miles through big pass in the Cairngorms, been my main goal since I started running 3 years ago.

mum I use Salamon Speedcross 3 trail shoes, on my third pair. If you can get used to the lace system and make sure you go up half a size they are great shoes.

Neeko · 03/03/2015 20:17

Not been out this week yet due to poorly DC but planning a run first thing tomorrow.

Suzanne. DH and I don't have a lot of free time because I always have marking and he is out at work 14 hour days mostly plus a Saturday morning. I think it evens out to mostly the same.
I probably am more willing to negotiate my running time but that's because he goes to watch/play football which isn't as negotiable as running on your own. I mostly run before the DC are up in the morning or leave work early and run before I collect them and do the marking later. DH is aware of how running improves my mood so encourages me to find time to run at the weekend too.

Anglaise1 · 03/03/2015 20:39

Back to proper marathon training following the HM at the weekend. Aggressive you need a couple of days off after your race, don't be too hard on yourself!
10.5 miles from the club session tonight, longish run and intervals.
So 134.9 + Mumsnot's 8.75 + my 10.5=
154.15

cinnamongreyhound · 03/03/2015 21:34

Ah 13th sept is my baby's birthday, definitely no running! Although I did do my 50th parkrun on his birthday last year, I thought he'd be too busy playing but he didn't like it!

4 mile head torch run tonight, which I ended up leading Shock

158.15

MumSnotBU · 03/03/2015 22:15

Thanks run for the recommendation.

familygermsareok · 03/03/2015 23:05

Wow run that will be epic!
I have walked the Lairig Ghru twice in a previous life pre DC. Once in a day and once with an overnight camp by the bothy incorporating two Munros on the second day. A fair amount of whisky was partaken of and they were the hardest Munros I have ever climbed! Blush.
I remember a lot of large broken boulders in the pass at the Aviemore end, it was pretty hard going walking over them, I didn't run at the time but the thought of it is Shock.
Awesome Smile
