Woo! How exciting to be the last on one thread and the first on another!

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 20/02/2015 05:52

My miles were 5.2.

Can people bold there total mileage as otherwise it's hard to keep track.

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 08:49

?
Halle, I agree it's a bit hard to keep track!
do you mean that we should now bold our miles and also continue to bold the new miles total??

Or did I misunderstand and you mean we should stick to the established convention of bolding the new total after we add our miles?

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2015 08:58

From the last total I can find 143.73 with your miles HalleLouja and runtothehills 10 but not including OhOneOhTwoOhThree's 67 Wink new total is 1449.93

I did 10.84 miles in 59mins yesterday OhOneOhTwoOhThree, in a similar fashion but had a shorter trip home. No idea how to edit it though sorry!

stilllearnin · 20/02/2015 11:33

hello I am back with a healing knee. 3.8m from me today. slow and hard and i appear to have a sack of potatoes round my middle. But I am back!!

1453.73

Neeko · 20/02/2015 15:28

Welcome back, Still. Smile

Thanks for the encouragement, postmanpatscat. I appreciate it.

2.5 from me this morning. I always post from my phone so don't see any text in bold and don't know how to put it in bold either. Sorry. I will separate the total from the rest of my post if that helps??

1456.23

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 15:52

That would work Neeko, we forgot to account for the fact that some may be on devices not supporting bold!

12.85 miles in the rain from me
=1469.08

stilllearnin · 20/02/2015 15:56

thanks neeko! I actually ran to the more or less podcast debunking the running research that the media reported as strenuous exercise being as bad for you as none. If you're interested we were all correct in that the sample size of that group in the study makes it meaningless and the real finding was too boring to report (doing some exercise is good for you!!)

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 16:04

ha ha Still, a few of the podcasts that I've heard while running have mentioned that study
today I listened to:
thinking allowed
naked scientist
the economist
in our time (adam smith wealth of nations)
bbc inside science

I'm not sure if I run so I can listen to podcasts, or if I listen to podcasts so that I can run :o

postmanpatscat · 20/02/2015 16:22

suzanne I listen to audiobooks and I know that being able to make time to listen is a good motivator to go for a run!

emummy · 20/02/2015 16:33

I love listening to podcasts when running, I can't seem to manage with music, makes my pace go all funny! Am thinking about trying audiobooks too, although am told I read too much as it is!
Having a wee running break as problems with piriformis syndrome, self diagnosed! Am stretching it 3 times a day and foam rolling, hope to be able to try a gentle run by Sunday. Planning to start hm training first week in March so hope it's better by then.

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 16:47

there is no such thing as too much reading Emummy.

I've had piriformis/sciatica issues but it's been pretty much ok lately, that may be down to yoga, cushioned shoes, strength training or something completely differentConfused
it's s hard to know for sure why these things happen and what exactly it was that made it go away!

ThursdayLast · 20/02/2015 16:49

I feel the same re podcasts Suzanne. Grin
I use comedy to get me through - though in the few occasions I've got headphones on in public the laughing alone gets me a few funny looks!

Adding 8 miles-half today, half yesterday, both for the dogs morning trip out

1477.1

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 16:57

I tend to use up the comedy ones first, part of my pre run ritual is selecting the podcasts to put on the teeny tiny ipod shuffle

years and years ago I used to record radio programs onto cassette tapes and listen on the sonywalkman during long walks.

The convenience of ipods and podcasts is my version of living the dream
(I'm easily pleased Blush )

Sirzy · 20/02/2015 17:04

Another 2 miles from me

1469.1

stilllearnin · 20/02/2015 17:14

suzanne Grin yes, those sort of things are my version of living the dream too! I have an ipod touch - and as I have no touchscreen mobile, my ipod is actually magic (as far as I am concerned).

Suzannewithaplan · 20/02/2015 17:17

what other wondrous & magical things will the future bring us to enhance the running experience?

Anglaise1 · 20/02/2015 17:38

I couldn't do my long 3 hour runs on my own without audiobooks - often comedy shows or series, not necessarily just books.
Just 7 from me today, 6km warm up run then 5 x 1000m intervals plus run home. In the pouring rain with my marathon colleague. Much easier doing intervals with someone else and not an audiobook!
1476.1

familygermsareok · 20/02/2015 20:45

5 miles from me very early today in the dark but this is first chance I've had to log in.
Very impressed with your 67 miler Ohoneohtwo , that should get you a podium place in an ultra Wink.

I never listen to anything while I'm running, but I do have a worryingly overactive imagination. I find myself making escape route plans up trees in case of attack by rabid dogs ( after reading Cujo) and working out where the nearest pond is in case of attack by African Killer Bees ( after watching some horror film featuring same). Zombies are my current concern now that the Walking Dead has restarted Blush. Apparently they are not very fast but they never stop for a rest, just keep on coming relentlessly.

EdithDickie · 21/02/2015 07:53

I'm glad I am not the only one who thinks about very random stuff like that familygerms! Grin

I have some really odd trains of thought while running. I like it though, helps keep the internal filing cabinets in good order.

I have the following to add for this week :

Lunchtime run - 2.53
Early morning on Wednesday lovely and sunny and frosty - 6
Lunchtime run - 3.03

So 9.56 this week, not very spectacular but planning a longer one tomorrow.

iwantgin · 21/02/2015 08:14

Thanks for all the good wishes for the Half. I can't believe it has come around so quickly.

I had to take a rest from running for a few weeks late last year due to sore Achilles - hence being very undertrained.

I have done one before (3 years ago) and know that it's tough at about the half way point. but this time am running with a friend - and the view along the seafront HAS to make it a bit easier.

iwantgin · 21/02/2015 08:15

Allpacked and good to go.

Now to spend the day getting there! Train from Yorkshire to London, then London to Brighton.

It's fortunate that I like trains :)

EdithDickie · 21/02/2015 08:46

Good luck! Hope that the journey goes well.

Sazorchard31 · 21/02/2015 10:52

A windy 5.2 from me this morning I thought the first half of the run was ok and no wind then I turned around and bam it was straight at me. Managed to sustain pace into wind at the same as when it was unknowingly behind me...thought I was a bit faster than usual! Ha biscuits deserved later I do think.
Total....

= 1495.86

Can't bold on device!

Good luck iwantgin.hope Brighton seafront is less windy than my northernseafront

actiongirl1978 · 21/02/2015 10:57

Morning all,

Good luck with the half marathon Iwantgin!

I managed 11 this morning. It was supposed to be twelve but I was delayed by 3 Angry running 'breaks' and a delightful phone call from my brother to tell me I became an aunty last night! Smile

So I don't feel too annoyed at missing out on the last mile!

Have a good day everyone.

I think that's right!
