Anglaise - DH's op was for both the meniscus tear, an ACL repair and to address wear and tear in the knee caused by the ACL not being there to hold his knee in place for about 20 years (he doesn't ever remember rupturing it, but used to play a lot of rugby and tennis in his later teens/early 20s and his knee would regularly give way and he'd hop about on crutches for a few days - apparently young men with strong leg muscles can manage without an ACL). So a full GA and massive scar. I think a meniscus repair can be done via keyhole and friends I know who have had it done it have bounced back really quickly.
He was told 6 weeks off, and was recovering well when unfortunately he had some complications which set back his recovery. He was on crutches from mid-May until early August, then had physio for six weeks or so. I can't remember when he started to run again, but he only runs once a week (8 or 9 miles) or it gets too painful (this weekend he has run twice and he is sore). Having said that, he ran a sub-two hour HM in December (19 months after the surgery).
It was really tough for him both physically and mentally, as he was at his worst when I was ramping up my marathon training and had to endure my excitement and constant marathon talk. He was hugely supportive, but I know it was hard for him not being able to run.
He got back into cycling as part of his recovery, and a non-running endorphin source, as that is non weight-bearing. He now needs the other knee doing, but is - unsurprisingly - putting it off.
