Was cold but lovely and sunny

Apophenia · 01/02/2015 15:07

7.2 from me, so 82.55 Whooop!

TheSkinnyProject · 01/02/2015 15:16

6.43 miles from me this morning.

A cold, windy and very muddy 10k race. Not the best time because I set out too fast, i started at the front as nobody wanted to go forward. It was freezing and just wanted to get going!

I did get a new PB for my 5k time though so very happy.

Total 2469.1

TheSkinnyProject · 01/02/2015 15:18

Hang on minute.
New month!

TheSkinnyProject · 01/02/2015 15:24

Thanks postmans cat

I've entered ballot for the Royal Parks half too. Did it last year, it was wonderful.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/02/2015 15:30

feet and Halle were also talking about the Royal Parks HM Smile

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 16:04

How did you get on in your 10k Thursday? Arse end? how very dare you!

2 miles from me this morning. I felt terrible. Had to dive into a field because of, er what's the phrase? "gastric distress". Oh well, it'll fertilise the cauliflowers Blush

90.98

ThursdayLast · 01/02/2015 16:42

Maybe you are the very arse end Hester Wink. I hope you're feeling better now though, that sounds horrid.

It was great! Vvvvv cold (a handful of snowflakes came down as we were at the start) but beautiful and clear. A wonderfully easy 10k route, barely a slope let alone a hill.

I did it in 53.21 Shock I'm absolutely fricking delighted! My ankle is tender now, but didn't play up during the race.

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 16:47

Chapeau Thursday!

Wrong sport but bugger it!

PS nice photo :)

actiongirl1978 · 01/02/2015 16:54

Wow thursday well done! That's an amazing time and so glad your ankle was ok in the end.

Thanks for all your lovely supportive comments, no one in real life gets it quite the same way Grin I ate a million Chinese food based cals and felt much better this morning. This week will be a good one, I can feel it Grin

actiongirl1978 · 01/02/2015 16:58

hester i usually manage to find a tree in a wooded area, but yes I think we are definitely contributing to the ecosystem in some small way! And take heart, barely a run goes by without it happening to me.

Yesterday it happened at 2.5 miles. I thought I was home free. But it turns out jelly babies do bad things to me and I literally had to sprint the last mile, teeth gritted and just about managed to get through the door in time Blush. So that's haribos and jelly babies off my refuelling list. Next stop love hearts and then maybe I will just pack a banana!

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 16:58

The thing I am looking forward to the next few days is the wind will drop! Hurray! Now I just need to sort out the fertilising the fields situation.

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 16:59

Action, as long as I have "been" before I set out, which I almost always do on waking (TMI? ), then I am fine. It's just something was amiss yesterday and today.

Every day? That's dedication for you. Good thing you have plenty of trees!

postmanpatscat · 01/02/2015 17:08

Fab run thursday!

ThursdayLast · 01/02/2015 17:19

Thank you thank you all. I'll admit I felt fricking FABULOUS at the end Grin well, actually I felt pretty good the whole time - I may even have paced myself too conservatively.

This is proof positive that with running you get out what you put in - and its worth it! I'm still improving three years later Smile

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 17:21

Blimey! That's it, I'm doing it next year! :o I went on the website last night and they let normal people in.

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 17:22

Non club runners obv

ThursdayLast · 01/02/2015 17:27

Yeah they changed it this year to stop the clubs block-booking it all out. It was mostly club runners though, apart from me and my mate Grin

Anglaise1 · 01/02/2015 17:28

Excellent time on your 10k run well done Thursday - especially given your ankle problems.
ohoneohtwo Thanks for your comments about the knee problems of your DP. HOw long did he have to stop running after the op? Was it a success? I don't know what to do about my knee - I was going to have the menisus op last summer but decided I couldn't stop running for 6 weeks and also I was worried about possibly making things worse rather than better - plus the thought of completely losing my fitness during the recovery was unthinkable. So I didn't have the op in the end, ended up doing lots of trail races instead Grin
Will try another run tomorrow with some speedwork and see how it goes.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/02/2015 17:35

Well done Thursday what a fantastic time Grin, lovely picture too.

Oh dear Hester and action - you are not alone. I know every single public toilet on a running route within 10 miles of my front door.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/02/2015 17:49

Anglaise - DH's op was for both the meniscus tear, an ACL repair and to address wear and tear in the knee caused by the ACL not being there to hold his knee in place for about 20 years (he doesn't ever remember rupturing it, but used to play a lot of rugby and tennis in his later teens/early 20s and his knee would regularly give way and he'd hop about on crutches for a few days - apparently young men with strong leg muscles can manage without an ACL). So a full GA and massive scar. I think a meniscus repair can be done via keyhole and friends I know who have had it done it have bounced back really quickly.

He was told 6 weeks off, and was recovering well when unfortunately he had some complications which set back his recovery. He was on crutches from mid-May until early August, then had physio for six weeks or so. I can't remember when he started to run again, but he only runs once a week (8 or 9 miles) or it gets too painful (this weekend he has run twice and he is sore). Having said that, he ran a sub-two hour HM in December (19 months after the surgery).

It was really tough for him both physically and mentally, as he was at his worst when I was ramping up my marathon training and had to endure my excitement and constant marathon talk. He was hugely supportive, but I know it was hard for him not being able to run.

He got back into cycling as part of his recovery, and a non-running endorphin source, as that is non weight-bearing. He now needs the other knee doing, but is - unsurprisingly - putting it off.

HesterShaw · 01/02/2015 17:50

Just saw one of my friend's FB updates and I think you crossed the line within 30 seconds or so of each other Thursday!
