Anglais I had key hole on my knee in mid Nov for a small tear and to remove a calcified lump. I was back out running in 6 weeks no problem. It would have been sooner I expect had I not stopped running in July as part of my problems post operation were getting full range of movement back from so much muscle wastage in my thigh. I also had alot of pain from where the lump had been removed, not from the tear. Get it done it'll be so much better afterwards! And I reckon you'll be back out in less than 6 weeks.

Sirzy · 01/02/2015 18:18

Is everyone members of running clubs? I am considering joining one but worried im not good enough!

Suzannewithaplan · 01/02/2015 18:34

I dont belong to a club Sirzy I know it works for a lot of people but I'm really happy running alone with just podcasts for company.

I also like to keep to my own schedule and doubt that I'd be able to fit in with club times and distances.

I dont think you should worry about not being at the 'right' level, from what I've heard running clubs are usually extremely welcoming and supportive of all runners :)

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2015 18:48

Fantastic, well done ThursdayLast!!!!

I can only speak for my club Sirzy but we welcome all abilities. Training is usually a circuit or repeats up and down a hill so you take t your own pace. We have easier and tougher sessions so you can pick your sessions and any social runs are just that, social runs which mean you have a chat and wait at places to let the slower runners catch up. If others want to run faster they run ahead and then back. We have runners who do 10k in 1hr 20+ and they are able to take part :). Our round Norfolk relay team consisted of runners at 7m30 miles and 11m miles too.

LaughingM · 01/02/2015 18:52

Congrats Thursday fantastic time!!

Sorry to hear about the knee problems Anglaise I'm sure whatever you decide to do you'll get back to running asap - sounds like you are a woman of hefty determination!

ohone feet and halle I'm in the ballot too. Might go for a charity place if I don't get in as it'll be my first half so I should prob do it for a good reason!

7.4 miles today, longest run ever Grin. Can't quite believe I finished it as the first two miles were utter hell. I desperately wanted to stop so I sat down and gave myself a good talking to that I had to do at least 5k before I stopped. Then went into trails and it gradually became easier, although there was a few walking moments when it became too muddy to run without going arse over tit or when there was a really steep hill. So very pleased to have finished it!

104.6

Mitchy1nge · 01/02/2015 18:55

running club is brilliant for discounted entry to races, and ours is also partnered with local gyms, physiotherapists and sports massage services and at sweatshop so 10% off those treatments and products adds up - plus free coaching, and aside from the actual club nights (and there will be sessions for all abilities) there are hundreds of people to get to know and run with in your own time

Mitchy1nge · 01/02/2015 19:00

Anglaise what's up with your knee? Have tried scrolling but my phone or wifi won't cooperate

congrats Thursday!

karatekimmi · 01/02/2015 19:03

I'm in a running club and we welcome all abilities. We run 2 c25k 8 week courses a year, always have a recovery/ beginners walk/run 5k option and then other runs, speed work, hill work etc. give it a go, my running mates are my new family - camping holidays with them last year, saw the new year in with them and often have social gatherings - group 4 is the pub after!!

karatekimmi · 01/02/2015 19:04

Oh and we get 10% off the local cottage chicken fake kfc handy after a run!

HalleLouja · 01/02/2015 19:14

8.1 miles here makes 112.7 as our new total.

Well done Thursday!

Sirzy our running club is fab but you need to be able to run at least 4 to 5 miles at less that 11 mins/mile. I am so glad I joined. Such lovely people and my running has improved. Plus its nice to hang out with other runners who shouldn't get bored of running talk. Plus you get money off races.

Sirzy · 01/02/2015 19:15

Thanks I have contacted two local clubs to see what they say! One is talking about starting a beginners group (although both say welcome all abilitys) so I think that may help boost my confidence to start!

ThursdayLast · 01/02/2015 19:15

Thank you again!

I'm not a member of a running club- in the very beginning because I was doing v small distances and slow speed, then (after preggo and birth) running was my alone time. Now with a toddler I don't think I could commit to the sessions.
Which is a shame, because ive kind of become an 'honorary' member of the club nearest my parkrun but they are MILES away! My nearest one seems a little stand offish actually.

Tiredemma · 01/02/2015 19:18

A pathetic 2.10 miles to add for tonight. I literally had to drag myself around

114.8

With my club there's no expectation or requirement to show up to any sessions, they're just there if you want them. The discounted physio alone paid for last year's membership, but ours is only £20ish a year.

Mayvis · 01/02/2015 20:05

3.1 from me

117.9

cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2015 20:11

Mine is £5 a month if you're training or £10 a year if you're not. I haven't been to training for over a year but I want to support the club and if I can go time wise want to be able to so I pay the monthly fee.

runtothehills · 01/02/2015 20:25

Definitely a mixed day of beautiful sunshine mixed with horrific gale force northerly blizzards emummy.

Planned a 10 miler but found the higher we got the deeper the snow, on reaching our first top it was thigh deep in places so we opted for a return journey. So 7 miles of thigh busting for me, but followed it up with 5 miles on the skis with DH as both kids away at birthday parties this afternoon Smile.

beanandspud · 01/02/2015 21:56

Had a lovely run/walk with DS this morning. Cold but blue skies and sunny - perfect Sunday morning out in the fresh air. Could have run more if I'd been on my own but it was fun being out as a family and 3.7 miles doesn't feel too shabby.

I make it 121.6

AggressiveBunting · 02/02/2015 01:39

I'm not in a club but there are several meet up groups in HK that do specific routes on a set night and you can just show up and join in - good if you don't want to trail run on your own in the dark and there's always a mix of abilities/speeds from racing snakes to hikers. I do sometimes wonder if I'd benefit from a bit of coaching/ advice but there's only use in advice if you're going to take it, and not sure I really want a structured training program - prefer just to plan my runs as time and energy levels allow, even though it probably is sub optimal in terms of progression.

4 miles from me this morning to make 125.6. Planning a leg burning 5k conditioning run/hike tonight with some work peeps - total of 2000 steps up over 3 hills(600, 1000, 400) and 2600 down (1000, 1000, 600) plus some contour and a scramble in the middle. Haven't been over it for a while so I think it may burn a bit. Best bit is that you end up at a bar.

AggressiveBunting · 02/02/2015 12:26

Just back from the 5k- which is about 3 miles so 128.6

Mitchy1nge · 02/02/2015 12:30

4.1 to add

129.7

flat, slow run and yet calf managed to 'ping' really sharp pain, painful to walk but am icing and am hopeful it's my appallingly low pain tolerance rather than a real problem (but I know it's a real problem really :()

Mitchy1nge · 02/02/2015 12:31

oh 132.7

Mitchy1nge · 02/02/2015 12:33

why are my calves so rubbish?

I could go back to the running physio and have more assessments but we have done all this before, can they do/tell me anything new?

:(

5madthings · 02/02/2015 13:52

4.3 from me so 137?

Really didn't feel like it today but it was a good run :)

Going to stretch and shower and then will read back...

mitchy sorry about your calves, no ideas from me. Nay be worth seeing physio, have you had your shoes checked etc?

Suzannewithaplan · 02/02/2015 14:55

Mitchy, what about trying a different physio?
perhaps calf raises to strength & stretch the muscles?
