Suzanne Shock Shock Wink Grin

Mayvis - thanks for putting in the effort with the eating. Perhaps you could experiment with different food types and their impact on running success? Grin

Mitchy1nge · 23/01/2015 12:24

missed group, imagine my despair, had to go out when it was slightly warmer (a practically tropical minus 12 or something) for a fraction of the distance - just 3.9 from me:

1859.89

originalpiratematerial · 23/01/2015 13:23

So...should I add my missing 10.8? Grin

actiongirl1978 · 23/01/2015 13:52

Adding roughly 6 not entirely sure but it was about that.

Mitchy it was actually warm here when I went out, I even put sunblock on my face. I mean there was frost on the fields still but it was glorious Grin

I felt very lucky to be able to run through such lovely countryside in the middle of a sunny winters day.

1865.89

originalpiratematerial · 23/01/2015 14:20

Oh well, I'll post my 10.8 miles anyway, along with 2.45 miles from this morning.

1876.69

originalpiratematerial · 23/01/2015 14:22

Argh!

1879.14

BlueChampagne · 23/01/2015 14:29

21.13 to add from me this week taking us to 1900.27. Just taken a minute off my 10 mile PB so smug mode is on.

twobambinos · 23/01/2015 14:36

10 from me 1910.27

Anglaise1 · 23/01/2015 14:52

7.5 from me, went out after lunch and was too hot in the beautiful sunshine.
Saw the cardiologist this morning and have booked an effort test with VO2 thingy for 5th March. My resting heartbeat is only 43 which is off the scales for even male athletes of my age so I don't think there will be any problems. Sadly it doesn't relate to being zen laid back type of person 'cos I'm definitely not.
1917.77

Anglaise1 · 23/01/2015 14:56

Ooh, forgot to say thanks to everyone for advice about my Garmin forerunner, finally managed to get the new software updates, upload my latest data (thought it hadn't worked last time but it had, so I've got everything including all my races Smile) and I know how to delete history without doing a reset. I now love it again.

Suzannewithaplan · 23/01/2015 15:05

11.2 from me = 1928.97
( I took my emergency balaclava but didnt need it after all)

Suzannewithaplan · 23/01/2015 15:10

I thought rhr in the low's 40's was common enough for athletes Anglaise? mine is around 42bpm currently.
It's always been on the low side even at times when I've not been doing huge amounts of cardio, my dad is the same so I think it's partly genetic?

Suzannewithaplan · 23/01/2015 15:21

my running gear showed up today:o
but it was all too big apart from a pair of gloves:(
and they seem to have sold out of the smaller sizes:(

HesterShaw · 23/01/2015 15:29

I have a definite case of pride coming before a fall today :(. Yesterday I was unbearably smug about having got to 5k from nothing in two weeks. Today my legs feel like lead and I had to cut it all short I felt so bad. I guess my baseline fitness just isn't there yet.

Slow and steady wins the race and all that.

emummy · 23/01/2015 16:23

oh Hester, never mind. I think early on my running was a bit more up and down, whereas now I have far fewer bad days. Keep plugging away, remember any run is better than no run.
Suzanne how frustrating! Hope you manage to get some nice stuff soon.
I have 3.1 to add. Did it very slow, partly as was still very icy, but also my main aim was to make it up a really big hill without stopping, which I did. My 10k in April has a huge hill in it, so this is my practice hill!
1932.07

Sirzy · 23/01/2015 16:37

First run in the gym for ages adds another 3 miles. 1935.07

I still prefer outside tbough!

BlueChampagne · 23/01/2015 16:38

Hester some runs go badly for no apparent reason - but sometimes they go well for no apparent reason too! Hopefully you'll have one of the latter to boost your confidence again.

5madthings · 23/01/2015 16:44

I agree with blue some runs are just crap, my run on wed felt horrid for the first 3km, I nearly gave up about 15 mins in but forced myself to keep going. It got better.but still wasn't good.

You have done really well, don't push too hard.

Also do you listen to music or anything whilst running? I find changing my playing can help if I have had a,bad run.

Also I was told at park run, move your arms and your legs will then do it as well. So I focus on making sure I am moving my arms sometimes if my legs feel heavy and it def helps.

5madthings · 23/01/2015 16:46

There you go, importance of arm movent. :)

Anglaise1 · 23/01/2015 17:07

Suzanne yes it is normal for athletes to have a low heart rate, a table is here. You are normally considered to be athlete at 54 - 59 so I'm sure genetics play a big part too. Having a low resting heart rate certainly makes running faster and longer a lot easier.
Agree with 5madthings the way you move your arms can influence your legs. I forget too often about mine and they flap around doing nothing, which is a waste. Arm movements really do help your legs and stride.
Hester everyone has bad runs, don't let it put you off. Have a break for a couple of days and you'll be surprised how much energy you have when you run next.

HesterShaw · 23/01/2015 17:19

That's interesting re arm movement. Thanks for the link.

Tomorrow is another day as Scarlett O' Hara said. Looks sunny too. Yay.

Anglaise1 · 23/01/2015 19:20

Forgot the link to heart rate, here it is

Went out at lunchtime today and ran 3.5 miles. Sun was shining and it was cold but lovely. Also tried out my new trainersSmile
