Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Hi I'm very late to the party but do you mind if I join in?

I had my baby 10 months ago and I really need to lose weight.

Pre baby I was 72kg at 5"8 with a healthy bmi, used to spin and mountain bike along with weights 5 times a week. Was the fittest I'd ever been and happy with how I looked. However, a difficult pregnancy and horrific birth meant that it's taken me 9 months to recover, I've just been discharged by the surgeons and feel ready to get my fitness back.

So today I'm 87.4kg and ideally would like to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I have Shaun t's hip hop abs which I've not started yet but I'm very tempted by insanity max 30. I'm using mfp and still bf. Literally started yesterday and the hunger is killing me.

Has anyone tried hip hop abs and would I better buying insanity 30?

Purpleraindeer · 23/04/2015 10:34

Hi spooky - that's exactly what I do re following schedule. If I have to miss a day I then do it the following day, hence why I now will be doing Friday fight work out on Sunday. I bet the combo of running and dvd is really good for you. Prob will help prevent overuse injuries too.
Welcome youCan. Sounds like you've had an awful time if it has taken 9mths to get an all clear. I will never moan about my induction/emcs again! I think spooky has hip hop abs? I'm on max30 and I think it's hard and that's after 10wks of t25. So it depends on whether you think doing a work out that you will really struggle with at first will be motivating or disheartening. Having said that I was exactly in your position on 1 January and I quite enjoyed feeling broken at the end of each workout as it felt like progress and getting back to the old me somehow
Hi to everyone else. Am finding getting back to mfp hard. I guess it will take a few days to get used to lower calories again. I am eating my exercise calories tho - I would starve without them!

Jacksterbear · 23/04/2015 21:48

Welcome Youcan. I personally would go with hip hops abs (have tried it briefly when I borrowed it from a friend). It's fun and not too hard but think it would be effective. I haven't done insanity max 30 but tbh it sounds brutal and I just wouldn't have thought it would be good to put your body through that yet, after it's been through what sounds like a very tough time! Personally I would say work your way up to it a bit more gradually. Just my opinion though! I also agree with what purple says about people finding workouts that are beyond their current fitness levels either motivating or disheartening - I'm in the latter camp!

Upper Focus done today - found it very tough for some reason. Normally it's an easy option. Confused

YouCanButImNot · 24/04/2015 08:59

Thanks for the advice! I might do hip hop abs for a while and some short runs to work up to insanity max 30! Now I just need to find hip hop abs, we've just moved house!

yumyumpoppycat · 24/04/2015 09:51

Welcome youcan! I have hip hop abs it is fun and def a good one to start with, pos go on to T25 from there rather than max 30 (I am a big fan of T25 - haven't done max 30 but it sounds hard!).

Jackster I will make my profile public again for a couple of days.

Hi everyone! I have been rubbish at checking this week. Also have been unfaithful to T25 with a Zumba class! Was great fun and according to MFP burned more cals than T25 but I only got lightly sweaty. I did core cardio last night and was purple and swearing by the end - much more satisfactory! Another faller off the dirt wagon here. Going to regather myself this weekend.

Sarahlouboo · 24/04/2015 17:33

*diet wagon!! Smile

Jacksterbear · 24/04/2015 18:01

Hahahaha Sarah I saw your post earlier and wondered what on earth dirt wagon was! Grin

Ooh good one poppy I'll have a look later. Smile

TurboFire HIIT 20 done today. Found it hard - but then I think I've worked out how to really push myself to the max during the one minute intense sections, and it's meant to feel really hard when you go all out, so that's a good thing!

yumyumpoppycat · 24/04/2015 18:48

Jackster I have found a hip hop abs, T25 piyo and turbo fire workout... I just need to replace turbo fire or use the one that came free with piyo!

Sarahlou I haven't been able to find t25 on mfp PC version....maybe it is underestimating Shaun T's abilities!

OOOH you can build your own workout hybrid (this has probably been explained on here before but it is so coool!) workoutscheduler.net/hybrid-workout-calendar-scheduler/#.VTqDCdJVgoL

Sarahlouboo · 24/04/2015 19:13

That's really cool thanks Yumyum. Yes I have to put circuit training general for T25 and I suspect that you may burn a few more calories but I also think the Zumba is overestimated - it's really fun but just not the same level of intensity. Mind you, the instructor looked amazing!

Jackster - I also sometimes find upper focus weirdly hard going. Did it tonight and found it fine but in other occasions have been looking forward to an easier time and then been huffing and puffing!

I completely need to go back to basics. I am in the last stages of beta and I think I have gained weight compared to my starting point ShockHmm! But I will do all my measurements etc and look at my fat percentage tomorrow. I am living proof that diet is more important than exercise in the weight loss stakes! But I am proud that I have consistently been exercising 5 times a week (was 4 before) and I have nailed v holds! If I can suss out the eating over the next couple of months I will be a happy bunny!

Jacksterbear · 24/04/2015 20:18

Oh that is awesome poppy! Will be playing around with that later. Like the customisation options. Smile

Jacksterbear · 24/04/2015 20:23

Sarah well done on the exercising 5 times pw. I have been doing more too since being on this thread. Probably 4-6 times pw compared to 3-4 before! Great motivation. Look forward to seeing your stats and progress report, if you want to share of course!

Purpleraindeer · 24/04/2015 21:20

Glad you all found that hybrid workout scheduler. I'm too much of a Luddite to post links!
Well done on the v sits Sarah. It's so satisfying realising that you can do moves you couldn't before isn't it? I get frustrated as it feels slow but often we're getting stronger but don't realise.
Disastrous day for me today. Was a no exercise day, found it v hard to stick to calorie limit, ended up starving by the eve and have just eaten loads of chocolate! Argh. Tomorrow's another day, right?

yumyumpoppycat · 25/04/2015 19:03

Thanks purple the scheduler is brill and only knew to look it up thanks to peeps who mentioned it.

How are the diets going - I have become obsessed by mfp macro adjusting! Too many carbs today but not too bad, I have just bought this as on offer in waitrose so can see where my carbs will be going this week www.goodnessdirect.co.uk/cgi-local/frameset/detail/591943_Green___Blacks_Organic_Thin_Salted_Caramel___100g.html

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend x

Mmmmm that choc sounds delicious!
Just finished month 1 of max 30. Apparently the work outs get harder now. Am a bit scared tbh. Despite doing an extra week in month 1 I still find them hard.
Watched the London marathon coverage this am. Made me really want to do another marathon, but then I got real and remembered the 3hr training runs and the fact that I struggle now to fit in 30min work outs.
Hope you've all had/are having good weekends

Sarahlouboo · 26/04/2015 18:26

Hi yum - that choc sounds lovely! I lovely the whole salted caramel thing. Thinking back, my diet problems stem back to just before Easter when I fell off the wagon with chocolate. Before then I had managed to keep it for weekends. Empty calories! Am cutting back after I have had my twix tonight!

Purple - well done on completing month 1 of Max 30! And yes sometimes progress feels slow and then you suddenly realise you can do something that you struggled to do before. I could never do tricep dips pre t25!

Hope everyone else is good. I am really enjoying exercise at the moment and almost craving it on rest days. Think the good weather helps. Hope it lasts! Did beta rip't today.

Well that is week 5 of beta done although I haven't strictly stuck to the programme these last two weeks, I have done other exercise alongside it. I have gained a couple of lbs but maintained my measurements. I think I am going to do a hybrid of alpha and beta during May and focus on getting my diet a bit healthier again. Hoping to lose that pesky couple of lbs.

Fullsteamahead · 26/04/2015 18:59

Hello everybody, sorry not been on here much in the last week.

Starting the last week of my hybrid on Monday. Can't believe it's gone by so quickly!
Sarah, perhaps you should consider my hybrid for after Beta??? It's really good fun.

Welcome, Ican, glad to see you on here!

Purple. Huge congrats on finishing Month 1 of Max 30! I'm thinking I'll be doing Max30 after finishing the hybrid, I've done a few Insanity workouts in the last couple of weeks and have found them a bit time consuming. Plus I've tried running for the first time in forever and have been doing it on and off for the last week, so think I'd rather do running whilst the weather is nice rather than working out inside. A combination of running and max30 would work great I think.

Ive not done any running since I was a child and seriously thought I was simply unable to do it, I was amazed that when I went for a run I just kept on going and going!!! Think all the cardio work with Shaun T has really paid off!!!

Boobz, where are you??? Hope the treatment is on the way and you are feeling ok. Hugs to you xxx

Hello to everyone else and enjoy the rest of your weekend. :)

YouCanButImNot · 26/04/2015 20:28

Ok against my better judgement I've ordered max 30! At my fittest I loved nothing more than pushing past the pain and really sweating. If my clothes weren't dripping then I didn't feel I'd worked hard enough. Soooooo even though I'm not fit at all I figured that this max out time thing might just be what I need to push myself that little bit further each time! I've been eating well and using mfp this week, been doing the usual dog walking and two runs and mid week weigh in I'd lost 1kg so I'm happy at that. It's a starting point.

Purpleraindeer · 27/04/2015 08:30

Sarah - if you've maintained measurements but gained weight isn't that muscle weight? That's good isn't it?

I can't believe you're nearly finished that hybrid fullsteam. I think that sounds like a practical way to do some long insanity workouts but not all the time. I like that idea and might steal it!

Great work on the weight loss youCan. And I totally would have bought max30 in your position. I hope you enjoy it. I love it ( most of the time)

Boobz?! Has been ages. Hope you're ok

spookyskeleton · 27/04/2015 09:32

Morning everyone Smile

I have fallen off the wagon (yet again Blush) as it is my birthday today and I have been celebrating all weekend. Anyway, after today, I am back on t25 as I have 4 months to ensure I do not go on holiday as am overweight size 16. I want to be a size 12-14 - do you think that is doable?

Fullsteamahead · 27/04/2015 09:44

So are you??? Lol!!! Happy Monday everyone!

Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)
Fullsteamahead · 27/04/2015 09:46

Definitely doable Spooky, go for it!!!

Jacksterbear · 27/04/2015 12:40

Let us know how you get on with Max 30, YouCan! You sound up for the challenge!

Well done for (almost) making it through that hybrid, Fullsteam! I rember when you first posted it, it looked bloody tough!

Am still playing around with the hybrid scheduler. I may start a T25 alpha & beta & PiYo one 5x a week (no doubles) next week. Poppy (or anyone else) would you be up for joining me?

Today have done a 30 min DIY tabata session using the tabata timer app on my phone. Seized the opportunity while DD was engrossed in a DVD (hence not doing a DVD workout!) but did do Shaun T-inspired moves, including shuffle + burpees, squats-to-tuck-jumps, and mummy kicks. Grin

Happy birthday spooky. Cake It's my bday next month and am thinking of asking for Hip Hop Abs!

and to everyone! Smile
