Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Hello ladies!

Did a Barry's Bootcamp yesterday with a massive hangover - definitely the way to get the alcohol out the system! DH came with me and loved it too, but so bloody expensive - basically £20 a session! You know you are in London...

Going in for my op this afternoon - and then another 5 day wait for diagnostics. So will be heading back to Italy on Saturday after all, to wait for the results.

Well done all on all your workouts!

Sarahlouboo · 09/04/2015 18:01

Hi Boobz, good luck with your op and fingers and everything else crossed for you. I had a look at Barry's Bootcamps - they look fun! They do them in Bergen and I am going there later in the year for a conference so maybe I will give one a whirl. Although on second thoughts the ££ and the language barrier might make it a bit Shock.

I have been listening to a great podcast where Shaun T answers listeners questions including yours Spooky! It's called Shaun T Define your life on iTunes and I think it is the most recent podcast. If you haven't got time to listen he basically says form is more important than speed and that he will do push-ups for example until he is not able to go chest to floor and then he will modify and go down on his knees so that he is still doing the arms/chest correctly. So i guess you should modify away on the speed knees! He also mentioned the doubling up things - basically says no need, unless you want to do cardio then some strength training if you feel the need. Something else that I found really interesting was a question about losing the last 5lbs. He and someone else said they aim to be within a 5 lb range and not to worry too much about the number on the scales but to maybe focus more on reducing fat/toning up once you are near your target weight. The woman (can't remember her name - Debbie?) said she is concentrating on getting small/more toned for her wedding but weighs more than usual. Obviously this is not down to eating loads of chocolate and drinking buckets of wine as I have done recently Grin!

Off to do a t25 beta, not sure what yet. Then I am going to eat a ton of spag Bol - craving carbs today! X

yumyumpoppycat · 09/04/2015 19:56

In theory I think I am finished T25 Shock Might do speed 2.0 tonight celebrate Grin. I really enjoyed it, but not sure I could say I am nailing it, on the upside I can hold the v sit for a few seconds now Grin Have been a bit crappy with food though so not sure there is a difference will do photos and measure at weekend eek. Annoyingly I think my arms are slimmer and I didnt measure those.

Boobz - if I was going to London for a hosp app the last thing that would cross my mind is to do a bootcamp Grin you and your dh are hardcore!

Have a great hol Jackster. Well done to everyone 'cising!

Speedylurcher · 09/04/2015 20:28

Hello Grin can I join you?

I had a little boy 9 months ago, I was very fit prior to having him (I went spinning the day I went into labour!) At 12 weeks I started insanity - and finished it- then p90x- finished that too, and I've just finished insanity max 30. I'm thinking of going back to do insanity again.

I have toned up lots, but still have about 5kg to lose - I'm finding it really hard to lose weight whilst breastfeeding even though I eat along the paleo diet rules and stick to 1800 kcal a day. I had severe anorexia in my teens and spent many years in and out of hospital, my metabolism is absolutely rubbish as a result. I have been healthy and recovered for 10 years, but it still pains me when I can't fit into my usual clothes.

At the moment I get up at 4.50am, express, exercise, then leave for work at 7.20am. I'm permanently chasing my tail in circles!

So, a big hello to you all, I've had a skim read of the 29 pages (!?!?) hope we can become good supporters of each other

lbnblbnb · 09/04/2015 20:58

speedylurcher welcome - you put me to shame! I am falling back into a poor me attitude - my job is very busy, I feel I am too tired to exercise - although I know it makes me feel better. I need a boot up the bum.

molehillormountain · 09/04/2015 21:07

Thanks guys! Still waiting for it to arrive so making the most of stuffing Easter eggs! Confused

Speedylurcher · 09/04/2015 21:17

lbnblbnb I too have a very busy job, but if I dont get up and exercise in the morning I sit and yawn all day - which is embarrassing when I'm sat face to face with patients (I'm a gp) - so I have no choice but to get up and on it Smile

Boobz · 09/04/2015 22:33

You sound hardcore speedy! Welcome to the group..
How did you find max insanity30? Harder or easier than Insanity?

I did P90x post 3rd baby and think it gave better results than insanity, which I have been doing since June last year... But then I was also doing Bikram yoga 3 x a week when doing P90 so that may have improved results..

Out of op - sans lump. No high impact exercise for 6 weeks. Hmm.

Still no diagnosis - probs another week. Haven't ruled out blood cancers yet (leukemia, lymphoma etc.,) - a bizarre feeling that learning it is "only" breast cancer next week would be a relief!

I

Fullsteamahead · 09/04/2015 22:55

Hello everybody,

Boobz, I'm so glad things are on the move and you've had your op. Finger crossed for a good outcome now!

Welcome Mole and Speedy!

Sarah, that's very interesting regarding the podcast, think I might have a look for it. Thanks for letting us know

Yumyum, congrats on finishing Beta!!! Can't wait for your photos, we've not had any updates for a while. I always feel a lot more motivated after seeing somebody else's progress!

Speedy, you sound like a real hardcore! Getting up at 4.50 am, I don't think I could function during the day!!!

My hybrid workouts are still going well, even though I've only just realised that for some strange reason there are no Insanity abs workouts included in it :( I'm also starting to feel that I could do with a bit more strength exercises rather than doing cardio all the time. I was watching some pretty cool kettlebell workouts on YouTube last night and was almost craving them! Can you even crave a workout???!!! Lol

Anyway, a planned rest day for me tomorrow as I'm off to York for a day to meet up with a couple of friends I've not seen in 10 years! I'm really looking forward to an amazing get together and will undoubtedly have too much food and wine. Back to working out on Saturday :)

Not2bObvious · 10/04/2015 14:39

Hi All, welcome to new guys, lovely to see new input - I'm only here 2 weeks but it feels like ages! Did Speed 1.0, I came very close to nailing it so well chuffed. The scales isn't my friend today but there's TOTM approaching and bowels aren't behaving so it mightn't be as bad as I think. Hope everyone's in good form?

spookyskeleton · 10/04/2015 16:31

boobz thinking of you Flowers

speedy wow, you are hardcore. I havd to sit down just looking at the insanity dvd's Grin

sarah thanks for the info from the podcast. My instinct was to go slower but with correct form so glad I was on the right track. Will modify without guilt now - need to think of my abs Wink

Speaking of which, dynamic core shortly - love it till the floor part when it becomes torture!!!

Purpleraindeer · 10/04/2015 19:18

Congrats poppy! I bet you'll be amazed when you do photos and you see how much you've changed.
Sarah - that's interesting re form. I'd have said that it's better to modify for press ups but for something like high knees just do the unmodified and your knees get higher as you get fitter. Shows what I know! I will take Shaun T's advice and modify from now on
Welcome speedy. You sound dedicated. Pre 6am work outs show more commitment than I have. Someone else asked this but how different are insanity and insanity max30? I'm 3 wks into max30 and enjoying it but finding it hard. I'm always shattered at the end of the work outs whereas with t25 some were easier than others.
Did tabata power for the last time today. Still couldn't do the stupid press ups section the whole way thru. It didn't even feel like I had improved tbh but maybe I'm just maintaining my form better (clutching at straws?)
Thinking of you boobz. All this waiting must be hard. Bloody good effort doing barrys bootcamp with a hangover. I normally just have a massive coffee and sit on the sofa quietly weeping to myself.....

Speedylurcher · 10/04/2015 20:44

I found insanity max 30 pretty much on a par with insanity, more intense as less breaks, but shorter workouts so less of a burn. Shaun also changes it up, so focus is on arms/legs section/abs section rather than just mainly all legs like insanity - this I think makes it a bit easier. I liked max30 from the timing point of view, but didn't feel as tired as if I'd done a proper insanity. The max30 abs is better than insanity cardio abs.

My heart rate monitor showed I worked harder and burned more kcal doing insanity.

Purplereindeer I too struggle with the press ups, better than more tuck jumps!!! I have to drop to my knees and do modified, my arms can't hack it, and I'm not sure I got much better.

Sarahlouboo · 11/04/2015 08:10

Welcome Speedy! I like hearing from the hardcore posters, gives me something to aspire to!

Purple - he used the example of push-ups but maybe you are right about the speed knees? He said maintain form as long as possible then switch to modifier. I have been modifying on push-ups now without guilt!

Well done on completing t25 Yumyum! What next?

I did beta rip't circuit last night. Gah, still find those v holds so hard! And no modifier! Got a family party today so having a day off but maybe going for a run tomorrow. Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Not2bObvious · 11/04/2015 09:40

yum what's your results after completing? I see you started the thread 3 months ago - really eager to hear from a real person how it went.
Boobz very happy to hear the lump is gone - hoping very much you get good news that it was only (as if it wasn't enough!) breast cancer. You've such a great positive attitude, hope your recovery from the op goes well, hope you're being mindedFlowers
I've managed 3 out of the 5/6 workouts so far this week, not sure if I'll get time to get the 4th one in today - have to check my chart to see what it is. I hope I can cause I can defo do a double tomorrow, Sundays always a decent day exercise wise for me. Lovely weather here this morning and I'd love to do a run but too much on this morning and friends coming this avo. Happy Saturday all x

molehillormountain · 11/04/2015 20:52

Hello! I'm on alpha day 1 and did cardio today. I struggled on the high kicks and the knees up but apart from that I didn't need the modifier. Am very pleased I saw it though to the end! Looking forward to the speed 1 tomorrow! I like to he kept guessing!

Sarahlouboo · 12/04/2015 07:58

Well done Molehill! I still hate knee ups and high kicks but they definitely get easier Smile. Alpha speed is good fun and has some nice stretching in Wink!

Good luck with the double Not2be Smile

Now that I am back on track I can see and feel some real changes to my abs and arms in particular on Beta - haven't measured myself for a while but might do that next week .

molehillormountain · 12/04/2015 11:09

I did speed 1.0! Found it easier than cardio but still got a good sweat on! Does anyone else have a leakage issue when doing the jumps?! Shock

yumyumpoppycat · 12/04/2015 11:39

Ok I have lost about 16lbs since starting the thread - woo hoo!

My before and afters are on my profile, I will make it private in a couple of days. Not an amazing difference and still a looooooong way to go. Photos are not pretty, you have been warned view photos at own peril ;) I was actually at least 10lbs heavier than the befores about 6 - 8 months ago so overall 26lbs down gah that's a lot and i am still overweight as 5 ft 4 and 157 lbs.

I don't think I am ready for max 30 so going to mix all the t25 workouts, piyo, pos hip hop abs for a month then re-asses.

Btw I couldn't find a measuring tape so tried with ribbon and a ruler but my results don't seem accurate, think I have gone wrong somewhere so not adding them.

Molehill yes leakage here - I do low jacks instead of high jacks and that seems to do the trick. Obvious, but make sure you go for a wee immediately before starting. I had major issues the 1st time I did speed 2.0 but not really since.

Keep going everyone Grin

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2015 14:22

That's amazing yum but I can't see your pics Sad But I can imagine you look twit twoo Wink
No leakage...yet... But that's probably cause I can't do the full intensity yet, might need a boat if I ever get to that level Grin
Concocted my own double of cardio and lower focus as I HATE abs. So week 2 I'm one workout short but I'm ok with that, next week will be better. I'm showing 2lb weight gain which I believe is a combo of Easter eggs and Totm, I am determined not to get disheartened. It will be gone by next weigh in day. I finally located my tape measure so I know my digits. My thighs are 2 foot around, how is that possible!!!! Oh well, have to start somewhere. Just under 3 weeks to holiday, I would love to lose an inch or 2 all round, so I'm going to put my all into this. TBC tomorrow, bring it on whimpers inside

Purpleraindeer · 12/04/2015 17:54

Poppy!! 16lbs is brilliant! Youre being much too hard on yourself re the photos - theres a big change - especially your tummy where you've now got those cool tummy grooves on each side. You have definitely been 'using your core!!!' You should be really proud. Sounds like you've got a nice hybrid programme worked out too.
I'm a bit broken today. Did Friday fight yesterday and found it v hard and am feeling quite tired today.

Purpleraindeer · 12/04/2015 17:58

Good work not2be and molehill!

Sarahlouboo · 12/04/2015 18:28

Yumyum - fantastic weight loss, congratulations Smile. I think you absolutely look smaller all over but especially around your tum and your arms look slimmer too. It's bloody hard work losing weight but this thread helps so thank you for starting it!

Not2bObvious · 12/04/2015 20:55

yum saw your pics using desktop site, you can see a real difference! That's so good, well done - you should be very proud, hard work is paying off Wink
