Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Good luck everyone with your workouts today Smile

Was supposed to start the beta phase today but my thighs are screaming in pain everytime I move due to my mammoth run yesterday. So am going to start the week tomorrow instead to give them an extra day to recover Hmm

Purpleraindeer · 09/03/2015 10:33

Boo. Press ups were impossible. Managed 5 of the 6 4 count press ups. I have one more rip'd circuit and I am determined to nail it next time!
Does anyone else find their lower back gets tired?
Don't blame you for taking another rest day spooky. It's normal to have a rest day after long run day surely? I used to struggle on stairs the day after mine.

yumyumpoppycat · 09/03/2015 10:45

Thanks guys, I am relieved (ahem) its not just me...I feel like I now have permission to stop and use the loo. Yesterday I didn't stop because I went for a wee before the workout and thought its probably not as bad as I think; but it was actually much worse Blush Daisy I will look into exercises, a friend has just told me she is on waitinglist for a physio and it will involve weight lifting exercises Shock I am imagining tiny dumbbells now!

Sorry posted early Spooky you should def have a rest in fact I think that even Shaun T would totally give you the day off!

Purple 5 push ups is really good well done. I am doing that workout this evening as builders in the house this am. Does anyone know of any good you tubes on how to do push ups - I still haven't managed 1?

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments Blush Flowers, this is such a nice supportive thread. The photo is flattering, I still wobble but that's OK, I am chuffed with my progress and I feel so much fitter/better.

Spooky - well done on your ten miler! I think an extra day's rest is definitely in order! I registered for a half marathon last year and didn't end up doing it so I have the option of using my registration again this year but I can't decide whether to or not. You have inspired me to maybe go for a bit of a longer run this weekend (only 5-6 miles, not 10!) and see if I enjoy it. I am loving T25 at the moment but it might be nice to do some more running now the weather is getting nicer.

Good luck with Insanity Jem!

Purpleraindeer - I am rubbish at pushups, very little upper body strength. Well done on the weight loss and I will have some of your weight loss chocolate moose thanks Grin.

Another hip clicker here! Well more like a clunk. I find it vaguely alarming, not painful. It does tend to put me off my stride though. I can't remember which exercise triggers it now. A JM one I think rather than Shaun T.

I need to get back on it today after a relatively relaxed weekend. Good luck everyone.

spookyskeleton · 09/03/2015 11:31

purple wow, 5 of the 6 push ups is pretty amazing Smile I cannot do even 1 normal one on my toes as my arms and shoulders just aren't strong enough to support 15 stone of body weight Sad. One of my aims of this programme is to be able to do just one but the weight is going to have to shift!

Thanks for all your support for a rest day - I no longer feel guilty Grin

jemstipp · 09/03/2015 11:43

Just finished and it was tough, couldn't do the last ten seconds of some of the exercises. Kept looking at the time too lol. Had a look at tomorrow's set too, max interval plyo. Think I'll either have to go very slowly or modify a little. Some of the moves look pretty hardcore and it's almost a bloody hour again, urgh! Can somebody remind me why this is a good idea Wink

Fullsteamahead · 09/03/2015 17:26

Jem, you are doing amazingly well, keep going. Somebody up the thread said that it takes about two weeks to "get used" to insanity

Purple, that's great re push ups, I manage about two full ones before I have to change to the easy option!

jemstipp · 09/03/2015 17:34

Thanks fullsteam. Two weeks eh, again I must say URGH!

Sarahlouboo · 09/03/2015 17:54

Really don't want to exercise today so I am posting here to make myself accountable! TBC to do. Last week of Alpha.

Newbiecrafter · 09/03/2015 18:24

Hello everyone.

Hope you all had a good weekend.

I've been researching some of the beach body things on line and watched a couple of youtube reviews of p90x vs t25. I also watched a few of insanity and have decided that it's def way to much for me at the moment.

So I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with the t25 as it has the modifier steps but on beachbody's site, there were a few reviews where it said they're didn't show enough of the modified steps.

So, in your opinions of t25, are the modified steps easy enough to follow? I know not everyone is doing this program but if you are do you think the modified steps would actually be effective?

I found a. 15min clip on youtube where Shaun t did a session with dr.oz and I managed to follow that but didn't jump or run, just stepped.

I felt a bit the worse for wear after but also felt that maybe I could manage 25 mins, but not sure it would be worth the money if I can't follow it properly.

I decided against p90x as I also watched a tony Horton video where he does an hour and I found him too annoying, Shaun T, on the other hand I really liked and I don't think he'd put me off.

Thanks again

Xxx

Sarahlouboo · 09/03/2015 18:59

Hi Newbie, it's a shame you don't know someone who could lend you it but does it hold its value? I mean could you get it and then, if it's not working for you, sell it on eBay? I think if you can do the modified moves and build your strength it would still be a decent work out, it's all relative to your starting point. Did anyone else on here start on the modifiers and build up? The only thing I have to compare it to is 30 day shred where I started on all the modifiers and worked my way up. Hope someone a bit more knowledgable will be along to help you Smile.

TBC done - 2 more of those buggers to do this week and no speed Shock!

Newrule · 09/03/2015 18:59

I am in week 3 of the second month of insanity and you do get used to it but the time is a killer. That's why I will move on to Max 30.

Newbiecrafter · 09/03/2015 19:14

Hi Sarah, thanks again for your help.

How are you finding it? I think you said you're on the last week of Alpha. Is that right?

How have you found it? And have you noticed much difference?

I didn't realise that T25 comes with a nutrition guide too, so have you been following that too?

I was supposed to be borrowing the tai chi dvd's from a friend, but they' eh actually been loaned out to someone else so will have to wait a bit longer to have a go at those.

Thanks again
Xxx

spookyskeleton · 09/03/2015 19:44

newbie I do follow the modified moves probably about 20% of the workouts (in particular the floor/plank work). It is true that the camera work is pretty bad and you can't see what she is doing until halfway through the time for that move which is very frustrating. It can also be difficult if you are on all fours and have to lift your head up to see what she is doing.

However I wouldn't let that put you off as I think the modifiers still give you a good workout and once you have done each workout a couple of times you know what the modified moves are.

Newbiecrafter · 09/03/2015 20:25

Brilliant spooky, just what I wanted to hear, Thank you so much for your help.

So, where to buy it from?
Beachbody.co.uk
Amazon
Ebay -beachbody shop
Ebay- used/unwanted gift

I like the idea of getting it direct as they offer the money back option, not that I'm thinking of using it, but 'just in case' is always reassuring I suppose.

Any recommendations?

Thanks so so much and apologies for all my questions. Thanks

Sarahlouboo · 09/03/2015 20:33

Hi newbie, we have loaned ours from a friend so can't comment! I am really enjoying it but I did do approx six months of Jillian Michaels DVDs first. Would definitely have had to start with modifiers if I went straight in with T25 but I think it is a fun and motivational workout, challenging but do-able and progressively harder if you follow the programme. Can't comment on the eating plan - I use My Fitness Pal which is a calorie counting app. That has worked great for me but not everyone's cup of tea I imagine. Good luck and keep posting your progress on here!

Purpleraindeer · 09/03/2015 21:28

Hi newbie
I started t25 having not done any real exercise in the previous 3yrs. I used the modifier for the first week or so but then after that did the full moves but just less of them or not the full range of motion. I guess I came from a pretty much zero fitness base and it was very hard to start with but doable. I was 9wks post c section so the ab exercises in particular were basically impossible but now with one exception I can do them all per the people on the dvd.

It is a bit annoying that you can't see the modifier all the time but in general I foundthat i could work out what the modified exercise would be and then check when the camera angle changed so it was no problem.

I looked at the diet plan but none of the food seemed very nice so I did my fitness pal like Sarah. It worked really well for me and is more flexible

T25 gets a big thumbs up from me!

jemstipp · 09/03/2015 21:28

Are all the workouts nearly an hour in Month two Newbie. Ffs lol. I suppose I'll just have to suck it up then. But def the craic tomorrow looks like it might kill me

jemstipp · 09/03/2015 21:29

Sorry meant Newrule

Whitershadeofpale · 09/03/2015 21:33

One of the best things about insanity max 30 is that you can split screen with the modifier.

Fullsteamahead · 09/03/2015 21:35

Newbie, search T25 Alpha Vimeo, it'll bring up a coulple of full videos which you can watch and decide before you buy :) I think you will be ok with the modifier moves, at the end of the day you'll still get a very good workout just without any major jumping.

Sarah, I'm on MFP too, how can I find you?

Question to all T25 users - what are you planning to do next? Gamma? Insanity? Insanity Max 30? I'm tempted to try insanity max 30 but have read a lot of good stuff about gamma too, apparently it's great for building up strength and I really need that particularly in my arms and shoulders

Fullsteamahead · 09/03/2015 21:37

Purple, you too!

yumyumpoppycat · 09/03/2015 22:35

I think Jackster has tried this Shaun T set newbie, and said it was good fun www.amazon.co.uk/Shaun-Hip-Hop-Fitness-Programme/dp/B001M508N6/ref=sr_1_cc_3?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1425939552&sr=1-3-catcorr&keywords=t25 but its supposed to be easier than T25, and a lot more reasonably priced. Have you looked into it?

I really like T25 but I do think it will be a bit frustrating at times if you are 100% following the modifier as they don't consistently show her. If Beachbody are good with returns then you could try it and see how you get on. There are moves I can't do on some of the workouts but it still feels worthwhile. I think the nutrition guide looks ok, pretty healthy, I have just cut out grains and cut back on sugar so no counting needed so far.

Ript circuit done today, it wasn't as difficult as I expected in some ways, but I do really struggle with V leg ab work on the mat, anyone else finding this?Think I will use dumbbells next time.

Yes, near 60 mins and some days almost 1hr 30 mins. So Fit test plus Max Interval is almost 1.5 hrs and Max cardio conditioning and insane abs is also near 1.5 hours.

I try not to look at the time. Sometimes when I glance at the time and realise there is still 38 mins on the clock, my heart sinks. But I does go by quickly.
