Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Keep going Newrule. I remember when I first tried Insane Abs and actually laughed through it, as it was so impossible I thought I would never be able to do it. Now I can do the whole work out without stopping/modifying. It's amazing what your body can work up to and achieve.

HesBeenAVeryNaughtyBoy · 03/03/2015 12:32

jack Grin

Just nailed speed!!! Week 3 day 2 16weeks after c-section first one I have nailed so feeling very pleased with myself. [blows own trumpet]

Now just have to stop eating everything in sight and size 8 jeans will fit again!

jemstipp · 03/03/2015 14:58

Day two of core cardio and balance and must say, am a little stiff, not much but a little where I was more tired after the month one workouts. Am really wondering just how bad month two is going to be.

Sarahlouboo · 03/03/2015 19:02

Well done everyone Smile it does get easier physically but I still have to have stern words with myself nearly every day in order to get it done!

Did beta speed instead of alpha today, surely someone got the speed on the DVD wrong...Was fun though.

I spend most of abs grunting or laughing, when I have nailed that one I will feel mega proud! Lower focus and my nemesis of lunge holds tomorrow - tic tacs at the ready!

It definitely does get easier (apart from my blip with TBC yesterday Grin).

I did Abs Interval today - love that one. I can do 99% of it without modifying unlike the others.

Fullsteamahead · 03/03/2015 22:02

Hello everybody! You are all doing so great!

I started my week on Sunday as we are going to the wedding on Friday and I wanted to make sure I do all my workouts. 3 lots of beta speed 2.0 this week! I really like it as I think it's the only workout that makes me truly focus with all those super fast changes :)

Boobz, ok the scales in the article look good but this Sculpt Aim is like an altogether different scale of things!!! I LOVE the look of it. I wouldn't rush into ordering it just yet though as there aren't any definitive reviews anywhere yet and also in the comments on the page you linked to lots of people are saying that they ordered it ages ago and are still awaiting delivery. There are certainly a few happy customers on their facebook page but it's still very early days...

Boobz · 04/03/2015 08:05

Yeah I know FullSteam - I have been wanting a new handbag for AGES and thought that was what I was going to get DH to buy me for my birthday, but now might get the Sculpt Aim instead... argh, I don't know! I suppose I can be the guinea-pig for the group and report back...

Went out for dinner last night for date night and managed to stick to protein and fats, skipping all the carbs, but then did have half of DH's biscotti with my coffee... so officially failed bootcamp after only 4 days! But back on the wagon this morning.

Bit of a late start today: 09:00am and starting Max Sports Training (this workout has the one move I don't even attempt anymore - the Bronco Jump - it's just dangerous as I always land on my head and I work out on a marble floor!)

Boobz · 04/03/2015 09:11

BOOM!

spookyskeleton · 04/03/2015 09:20

Right I need to google a bronco jump...

Cristiane · 04/03/2015 09:37

Hello! I think this sounds awesome - and you look AMAZING - and I would like to join you. But before I order T25 can I ask some questions? SOrry, there are quite a lot! Is T25 the best programme? i would struggle to do more than 30 mins in a day.

  1. do you all do the diet plan? what is it like? does it work well if you are working (normally i prepare breakfast and lunch and take it in with me, sometimes i have business lunches)
  2. can you drink wine on the programme?
  3. is it actually 25 mins 6 days a week?
  4. can you miss any days (sometimes i have long days travelling across country for work) or re-jig programme?
  5. is it a lot of jumping around? not sure how my floors will react!
  6. do you need any other equipment apart from the DVDs and bands that come with them?
  7. how does it compare with Shred and Ripped in 30 - I have done those before?
spookyskeleton · 04/03/2015 09:52

cristiane welcome Smile

I can't answer all your questions but will answer what I can.

I started doing T25 5 weeks ago, I haven't changed my diet in anyway at all (my diet is crap!) but I have still seen the difference. I am not weighing/measuring myself but can definitely see a difference in how my clothes fit, my flabby post c-section tummy is slowly going, I am definitely getting more toned. Yes, the results would be quicker if I dieted Aswell but am happy to go slower and eat what I want.

It is actually 30 minutes if you do the cool downs as well. There are workouts planned 6 times a week but I know a lot of people don't bother with the stretches on a Sunday. One day a week, he recommends doing a double workout (so an hour) but again I haven't done that.

Technically you don't need anything. However if you need to modify a lot of the plank work, you need a mat/rug for your knees. You do also need a mat for floor work. You can use the resistance band for strength work but I don't like it so have bought some cheap dumbbells as I am more comfortable using those.

Yes that is a lot of jumping but you can modify throughout.

Hope that helps.

Boobz · 04/03/2015 10:04

Hey Christiane

I have answered the questions I can - welcome!

I do Insanity at the moment (having done P90X, another Beachbody program in the past) - it sounds a bit too long for you (the second month work outs anyway, at nearly an hour) so T25 is probably best for you.

  1. I do follow a diet plan but not exactly the one that comes with the DVD. I do the Zone Diet (link above) which is tight portion control AND low carb. The difference in results you can achieve when following the diet vs not (whilst doing the workout regime in both cases) is HUGE. As debated earlier, size of your body is 80% diet, and 20% workout (or thereabouts). Yes you can lose a bit of weight doing the work out only, but results are a lot slower. I make packed lunches and take them to work, no probs.
  2. I drink wine on weekends only, as my carb allowance.
  3. Yes you can rejig I think, as long as you fit them all in somehow. Once you have completed the program and get to "maintaining" you can take a few days off here and there with little effect (just don't take a week off like I did and go skiing and eat mountains of food - am now working hard to put that week right!)
  4. Insanity is A LOT of jumping - not done T25 but imagine the same?

Take Day 1, 30, 60 and 90 photos - it is so motivating.

Cristiane · 04/03/2015 11:22

Thank you so much Boobz and Spooky - really helpful to get that feedback and tips.

I will look for the zone diet. I think low carb is definitely the easiest way for me to get along as otherwise i will feel i am depriving myself. i did a dry January but have slipped back into the old wine ways so i need to sort that out.

Should i buy T25 through amazon?

Boobz · 04/03/2015 14:31

Fullsteam found this article - which is old but doesn't really sell the Skulpt to me! Dammit, I was really hoping it was a decent product as I have no idea where to get body fat % readings in Rome...

Skulpt Aim Article

Fullsteamahead · 04/03/2015 14:51

That's rubbish Boobz! Just as we got excited about it :(
Why don't you try a calculator to figure out your current body fat content. I know it's not going to be super accurate but at least you'll know where you are roughly. I'm also intrigued to find out your BFP as your parameters roughly match mine and you are my guideline to aim for ??

Boobz · 04/03/2015 16:07

I am in London next week so am trying to find a place I can walk-in off the street to get callipered!

Have also posted on Skulpt's FB page asking them for the stats that back up their claim they are "5 x more accurate than Smart Scales".

Cristiane · 04/03/2015 16:10

Hello again
Can I ask another question - it doesn't really matter what day is my 'Monday' does it.. Just cos am single working mum and it is actually easier for me to do exercise at weekend and often travel for work on Tuesday's and Wednesday's so i might time it for then...

Jacksterbear · 04/03/2015 16:38

Boobz I am totally nosy interested to know your fat % too. I am guessing it's low, you look pretty lean in your pics. Smile

Cristiane, just to answer your qu re how T25 compares to shred/Ri30. T25 is much, much faster and has no breathers at all (other than in speed 1.0 which has some welcome stretching intervals). It is much more obviously cardio-focussed (I rarely feel like I'm "gargling my heart" with Jillian, but do with Shaun!). There are no weights at all in the alpha round (although there's one particularly evil workout with loads of plank/push up work); beta has a couple of weights workouts but they are much less evil than some of JM's weights moves! Hard to say whether T25 is overall harder or easier (it probably depends what your strengths and weaknesses are), but if you can do a shred/ripped without stopping or modifying then you should be able to do the same with T25. The only thing I have to modify with both JM and T25 is some of the plank/press up work, due to relatively weak upper body!

JM's 6w6p L2 done yest; T25 Speed 1.0 done today.

Boobz · 04/03/2015 17:15

I want it to be less than 20% but actually have no idea if it is anywhere near that... will let you know when I know (maybe next Tuesday if I can find somewhere to go and get it measured whilst on work trip..)

Boobz · 04/03/2015 19:13

For all the Shaun T fans out there:

jemstipp · 04/03/2015 19:29

Lol boobz

Purpleraindeer · 04/03/2015 19:53

Hi Christiane
Welcome! I have done shred and I think t25 is more effective. I was definitely fitter after 5wks of t25 vs shred but perhaps not stronger as alpha has no weights. I like t25 more as there is more variety. I found doing the same workout for 10days hard and I found I got really tired and sore from it.
I do calorie counting with mfp but for the first 3 or 4 weeks I didn't really diet but was just a bit more careful and I still lost 1-2lbs per week.
My 'monday' is currently Thursday ans every so often I miss a day and then just do it the following day so my 'Monday' changes. I don't think it matters
I have 1 more week of beta to go and I'm amazed with the results I've had. I feel great and am a lot fitter and stronger than I ever thought possible in the time and I started from a fitness base of 0 after 3yrs of alternate pregnancy and breast feeding with 2dcs.
A question for everyone else - did anyone buy directly from beach body?

yumyumpoppycat · 04/03/2015 20:33

I bought T25 from amazon.

My experience with T25 vs shred is pretty much the same as purple's, I much prefer T25 (but shred is significantly cheaper!) PS well done on your results purple!

Boobz its a shame that monitor did sound good... I guess because you are slim it might be more effective for you than a muscley man?

I might post my alpha before and after this weekend ... maybe... maybe not bottles it

Cardio done today.

Aw that video is cute. That are such a hot-looking couple! In fact, the sneak previews of beta that I have been looking at seem quite distracting as the men all have their tops off!!

I bought mine direct from Beach body - hadn't realised you could get it from Amazon!!

Did TBC today - so much better than Monday Grin even managed some plank walks today although the glass of water would definitely have fallen off my back Wink
