Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

jemstipp welcome to the thread Smile I also have to say that Tania doesn't seen that bad in T25 bit never seen her in Insanity so nothing to compare her to.

I just did the stretches today - I do like them, they are still a workout but they feel good.

Week 4 starts tomorrow...

jemstipp · 22/02/2015 21:25

Haha. It's all the yeahs and woooooos that gets on my tits. Fair play to her, she's fit as a fiddle but just stop. Shaun t hardly looks at anyone else. It's not that bad if you just push yourself a little and every week try a little harder and you can do more. I like it when I've finished lol

Jacksterbear · 22/02/2015 21:29

Urghh. The discussion re pre-menstrual bingeing is v timely - have eaten loads of crap today. Blush

caitlin the cardio focus of T25/Insanity (more so Insanity) is why I like to switch between JM and Shaun (and have also started to throw a bit of PiYo into the mix)!

Welcome jem and well done on your progress so far. Sarah I prefer Insanity Tanya!

Hi All, I'm new to thread and mumsnet, I am going to start insanity tm and writing it here I hope will make me see it through.

Newrule · 22/02/2015 22:25

Just did day 1 of month 2. Fit test plus Max interval circuit. I nearly died but I loved it.

My eating has been all over the place for the past two weeks but I plan to be back on track from tomorrow.

Based on advice here, I plan to repeat Insanity after day 63 instead of moving over to T25. I need to check out this Max 30.

Sarahlouboo · 23/02/2015 07:06

Jacksterbear and Caitlin - I miss the weights from JM! Glad there are some on Beta. I will be interested to go back and do some JM when I have done T25 - hope I haven't lost too much strength!

BeattieBow · 23/02/2015 07:50

Hello everyone, I've read through your thread and am inspired to think about doing one of these DVDs! But I have a knee injury and The shred is too bouncy for my knee, so I was wondering if these DVDs are the same?

If not, are any of them ok for dodgy knees? I've got t25 in my basket on amazon.....

(Although would also be interested to know if it's cheaper elsewhere)

Thanks all!

jemstipp · 23/02/2015 08:06

There's jumping, lunges and squat jumps in Insanity, I don't know if that would aggravate your knee?
Week four insanity, pure cardio and cardio abs today........wish me luck Smile

spookyskeleton · 23/02/2015 09:17

beattie get T25! There is someone who does all the workouts without any jumping/bouncing etc but she still seems to get a good workout Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 23/02/2015 10:37

Waves and Hi 5s all round Grin

Beattie the lower focus is the only one that really hurts my knees because there are a lot of lunges and squats but it only comes up about once a week and its not a pain that stays whereas my knees did possibly seem more aggravated with shred Confused. I am ok with jumping from a knee perspective, I think its lunges that hurt my knees esp with weights which I think there is a fair bit of in shred . I prefer to do a pushup in proper position but not to the ground when they come up rather than on my knees but not sure if that's good advice.

T25 is about £20 cheaper on the beachbody uk website, but I went for Amazon as I didn't want to risk an unfamiliar website but tbh that was prob a bit daft.

Lower focus done before school run and kids on time for school, but my halo isn't too shiny as I need to do work from home, house work etc in the next hour or two before nursery pick up and I am on mumsnet!

Oh another tip is to warm up your knees by rubbing them before starting, dp told me to do this, not sure how scientific it is!

Hi beattie, t25 might be too high impact if you have bad knees - the trouble I am finding is that it is so fast paced, it can be difficult to get proper form. There is a modifier but it's a lot of money to pay if you can't do the full thing. There are a LOT of lunges where you twist from side to side and squats in between etc which I think might bother you. You could try another JM workout like No More Trouble Zones which is strength rather than cardio so no impact, or maybe PiYo? I've not done the latter myself but others on here have and maybe could advise?

caitlinohara · 23/02/2015 12:23

By the way, does anyone have any advice on protein shakes etc? I use dh's at the moment which is a 'lean muscle' formula but I know there are all sorts of pre-workout and recovery ones and I just wondered if they are worth it?

Well done to everyone for their workouts. I'm still Envy at anyone who can do pull ups. I envisage Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2! I would love to be able to do that. I'm convinced by JM's argument that if you are strong physically, you feel stronger mentally, and that really appeals to me.

BeattieBow · 23/02/2015 12:56

Thanks Caitlin, I looked at PiYO on the beachbody site and it looks harder on my knee than T25 - I think its the lunges are most tricky (or they were last time I tried to shred in October). Jogging and bouncing is probably ok. Kneeling is the most painful to me, so I have to do full planks rather than kneeling ones iyswim.

I'm doing Davina (7 minute thingie) at the moment and not finding it that difficult.

I hate having a knee issue - I really want to do some cardio work!

spookyskeleton · 23/02/2015 15:16

caitlin my understanding is that you do as much as you can and that keeping up with them is not as important as ensuring your form is correct - you just push yourself to your maximum. Don't know if anyone has done metafit classes but that is their principle - do as many reps as you can in the time but your form must be correct. However if lunges and squats will aggravate a knee injury then T25 probably isn't the best as it has a lot!!

yumyumpoppycat · 23/02/2015 16:02

Has anyone tried this www.amazon.co.uk/Shaun-Hip-Hop-Fitness-Programme/dp/B001M508N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424707314&sr=8-1&keywords=hip+hop+abs its £27

spookyskeleton · 23/02/2015 18:31

No but I quite like the look of it - maybe something to try after I finish the T25 programme. I also fancy the Body combat set and the PiYo one but obviously it starts getting £££ but I could cancel my gym membership and just mix it up at home.

spookyskeleton · 23/02/2015 18:37

Just checked out the prices on Amazon, could get both the combat and PiYo workouts for £100 which is 4 months gym membership. Definitely something to think about as I am not going to the gym anyway at the moment as I am just doing the T25 programme with a little bit of running.

Sarahlouboo · 23/02/2015 20:20

Evening everyone. Total body circuit (t25 alpha) done! Really took some persuading by DH to do it as I am in a terrible mood today! But I felt better for doing it.

Jacksterbear · 23/02/2015 20:47

Oh well done Sarah and snap - also in a tired/irritable/tearful mood, and almost didn't exervise, but made myself do Rip't Circuit (T25 Beta) and felt better for it. As I've probably said before, I am a very big believer in the mood-lifting, anxiety/depression-fighting effects of exercise!

I have tried Hip hop Abs - although only briefly; borrowed the dvds from a friend but only for a short while. I liked it and it is really fun, but nothing like the intensity levels of T25/Insanity.

Still unsure about PiYo but will continue to try to fit in one or 2 a week in amongst the high impact stuff!

Re knees - it really seems to depend on what the problem is. I can't run (the relentless pounding on pavements does not go down well with my right knee) and find my knee often aches after a workout with lots of plyometrics (ie bouncing!), but squats and lunges etc seem to be ok as long as I keep a really close eye on my form.

Fullsteamahead · 23/02/2015 20:52

Evening everyone,

I've not been on here since Thursday and I see there has been a lot of activity. Welcome to all the newcomers! Waves :)

Beattie, I had a bad knee when I started T25, in fact it hurt like hell when I did JM prior to T25. I Tried to switch to Tanya whenever it got sore but I've been genuinely amazed at how much stronger my knee muscles have become since the start of T25. I'm now on week 2 of Beta and am virtually pain free!!!

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for my bad shoulder. Upper focus killed me last week and the shoulder is still sore :( I guess it'll just take time to build good muscle strength in it...

The strange thing is that apart from upper focus I find Beta a bit too easy... Am I the only one? It's crossed my mind twice now that maybe I should move onto Insanity but I don't want to jump into it and not be able to do it.

Caitlin, I drink protein shakes after workouts, I use this stuff, vanilla cookie flavour, it's great. I do 200 ml of water, 50 ml of milk and a handful of fruit. It takes really good unlike many powders on the market:

Boobz, how lucky are you to live in Rome!!! Really jealous!

I got myself Fitbit tracker the other day, are any of you guys on Fitbit? I could add you as friends :)

Newrule · 24/02/2015 10:19

First week on month 2 of Insanity and it is really tough. Every day I threaten to quit. I genuinely don't know if I will be able to do the next 3 weeks. The first month was okay but this second month is crazy. Part of me love it and another part of me says 'why are you doing this to yourself'?

Purpleraindeer · 24/02/2015 10:36

Fullsteam I feel the same re beta. I wonder though whether it is just because I am not half dead at the end of each work out like I was when I started alpha? Having said that I did rip'd circuit this am and feel pretty worked over now.
My plan is to finish beta and then do jilian ripped in 30 level 4 for a week - is unfinished business as I got pregnant right before I got to l4 so I didn't complete it. I will then invest in insanity max 30. I'd like to try insanity but realistically there is no way I'll be able to do 60min work outs with DS's naps the way they are

Newrule · 24/02/2015 10:58

I've been reading up on Insanity Max 30. Is it really difficult to get through the 30 mins? Also is it more difficult than Insanity?
