Anyone else starting a Beachbody workout programme? (T25, insanity etc)

yumyumpoppycat · 09/01/2015 16:16

Ok so my Focus T25 box has arrived today! Costs a lot but it has 11 25 minute work outs and some stretchy exercise band things. Idea is that because I have spent a lot I will have to knuckle down and see it through for the next 2 months.

I will probably try it over the weekend and start properly on mon. I am 3 stone overweight so this is going to be a mega challenge! Has anyone else recently started something similar or a new workout dvd and want to help motivate each other?

Hey Newrule. I'm on first month week four so still have the week of core cardio to do before month two. I wonder if I did a repeat of month one would I be better set up for month two.

Newrule · 24/02/2015 16:37

Good question Jem. I thought about doing the same but decided to bite the bullet. I was fairly comfortable with the first month and I believe that even if I had repeated it, I would still have found month 2 difficult. The moves have a slight twist to them and there are more variations per move, and the pace picks up a bit. Even Shaun T needs to take a breather - the push up abs. The longer time does nothing to make you feel better. I try to not pay attention to time. Last night my eye connected with the clock and there was still 25 mins to go out of 59 mins. I almost burst into dramatic tears. It would s a wonderful feeling though when you head into that final stretch and cool down.

You will be able to do month 2. Just brace yourself and enjoy it. It is hard but not too hard that you are not able to do it. For me the worse part was doing the Fit test AND the Max Interval Circuit at the same time. That is day 1 of month 2. Once you get through that, the other days are much better.

caitlinohara · 24/02/2015 16:42

Thanks fullsteam I might try that!

Enforced rest day today as gave blood yesterday evening and I know from past experience that I can't hack exercise the day after!

purple I have never got to week 4 of RI30 either... I really hated it for some reason, I can't even remember why now! Let us know how it compares to T25 beta - I bet it seems really slow!

I'm only on week 2 of T25 and I'm already thinking about what to do next!! I can't work out the difference between insanity max 30 and P90x3. I quite like the look of P90X3, has anyone here done it?

Daisybutton · 24/02/2015 17:35

First proper day of insanity (yesterday was fit test) and I'm feeling it already in my legs. It was tough but I really enjoyed it. Remembered to take some photos, it was shocking to see myself without pulling my stomach in, but gave me an added incentive.

jemstipp · 24/02/2015 19:36

OMF Newrule. I'm click watching now lol. I'll give it a go when the time comes and if it's horrendous will do an extra lap of month one. Cringing already Shock

Fullsteamahead · 24/02/2015 20:48

Purple, I'm glad I'm not the only one then :)

Feeling seriously shuttered tonight, off to bed in a minute.

Beta core cardio and a brisk 40 minute walk done today.

Feel like I'm coming down with something, really sore head and stuffy nose. Boo! :(

spookyskeleton · 24/02/2015 21:24

Well done everyone for today's workouts Smile

TBC (week 4) for me today and for the first time, I nailed it Grin woohoo. I am still not able to do all the plank work but I am increasing what I can do each time and I did all the burpees today.

Weird because the first 3 weeks, I hated TBC and enjoyed cardio but did cardio yesterday and couldn't wait for it to end but really enjoyed TBC today Hmm

caitlinohara · 24/02/2015 21:34

Well done spooky! It's great when you feel you are getting somewhere. I hate cardio, have to do it in the morning Sad

spookyskeleton · 24/02/2015 21:38

Good luck caitlin, remember it is only 25 very long minutes Wink

yumyumpoppycat · 25/02/2015 09:32

Interesting about the hip hop abs Jackster thanks, maybe I could think about getting it when I finish T25 as a fun option to use with mixed up other dvds or if I fancy a double workout, (or be more sensibly suck it up and progress onto the other harder T25 workouts!).

Caitlin I am still at the stage where I dread TBC so that's great you have moved on to a new stage. I wimped out yest and did speed 1.0 instead of tbc Blush

Total respect to anyone doing 60 mins of insanity btw Shock I couldn't face T25 back to back double whammy this morning, but struggled through my nemesis abs workout pre school run and as I wasn't really sweaty (clearly I need to work harder and not just flop on the mat periodically!!) I kept my gear on and will try and fit in housework,TBC and a shower in before nursery pick up.

Ah no poppycat, it's spooky who has nailed TBC, I'm afraid I am still very much at the "barely able to follow modifier" stage... I actually think I may need to do a week of just TBC at the end of Alpha before moving on. I notice on the calendar that you have to do it more frequently towards the end of the alpha stage so he clearly means you to nail it before beta - it seems like an impossible goal right now! How anyone can do those spider push ups is beyond me. Confused

Newbiecrafter · 25/02/2015 12:12

Hello ladies

This is such an inspiring thread!

Can I ask, I have very dodgy knees, and can't do lunges or squats without being in bad pain for days afterwards, so are there any adaptations to some of these?

I own a dusty set of beachbody turbo jam DVDs which I bought years ago as they looked like the same sort of thing as body combat which I used to love doing at classes at a local gym. I used to be fit and had a flat stomach but was never very slim, but I was fit and happy.

But I hurt my foot in an aerobics class, plantar something, and then started having probs with my hips and knees. Related or not, I don't know.

Now, years later and two c sections later, I am fat and flabby and getting older by the second.

I have lots of exercise DVDs, but can't get the whatever it is to find them and do them. I think I am scared of the pain on my knees and have also suffered/am suffering from anxiety/depression.

You are all inspirational and I will carry on lurking here cheering you on and hoping that your collective energy can spur me on to make a start.soon!

jemstipp · 25/02/2015 13:16

Would a knee or ankle brace or both be any good Newbie? Most of the programmes seem to have exercises/warm up moves that can't really be modified

Newbiecrafter · 25/02/2015 13:28

I've tried exercising with knee support but it doesn't really stop them from hurting. I think I might have cartilage damage and floating bits which are the problem. It's a real problem as sometimes they suddenly hurt just coming down the stairs or if i turn in the kitchen. It's all very odd. And annoying.

I also tried cycling, a while ago and the pain in my knees lasted about 2 weeks after. It's also hard to kneel for certain yoga type exercises.

I tried a personal trainer last year, but they weren't very good and my GP told me to stop going as they were telling me to work through the pain but it wasn't normal post workout pain and it lasted for weeks after I stopped.

It's ridiculous to be scared of the pain but it really does hurt when it goes.

I noticed that there's a tai chi type workout on beach body, so wonder if that might be a good starting point as the guy there seems to talk about it helping with joint pain.

Thanks for your help.

yumyumpoppycat · 25/02/2015 15:05

Oh Newbie that sounds horrid, especially the personal trainer experience (sounds like he has been watching too much Biggest Loser Hmm ) would it be worth contacting beachbody customer services and asking if they have a suitable work out, as it does say on the warning message that they have workouts for different abilities and needs? I think swimming is low impact depending on the stroke you use and can be a really good work out? I also think I have read on mumsnet that if exercise is done carefully knee pain can sometimes reduce as the knee strengthens from the exercise Confused

Another option is to try and lose a few lbs while you figure out what exercise will work as carrying less weight will be better for you knees then add in exercise being cautious about form etc, this has worked pretty well for me although I am still pretty heavy - I get slight twinges then ease up and touch wood no problems while doing T25 once the workout has finished. We can always cheer you on while you get started even if not yet doing one of the workouts?

Oops sorry caitlin sounds like we are in the same boat with spider lunges my body doesn't seem physically capable! Not sure if I could cope with a week of spider lunges but love your determination to conquer TBC Grin

Newbiecrafter · 25/02/2015 15:28

Thanks poppycat Thanks for your lovely post.

I think you're right re the losing weight. I was doing quite well on the low carb bootcamp, but in the last 2 weeks of the 6 I did, I started getting really bad heartburn/reflux as well as bad leg cramps in the middle of the night. Also got my period after three months of it being MIA and just fell off the wagon spectacularly. This was two weeks ago and the weight I lost is now back on, but the heartburn has gone and my legs aren't cramps anymore so am at least sleeping,

That personal trainer exp was not good. The gp also tested me for rhumatoid arthritis as I have another auto immune condition.

Tbh, I have been feeling really low about stuff, and this thread has been really good at making me think I can do something about it. I just need to find the right thing I think.

I will ring beach body and see what they say.

Thanks again. Xxx

Purpleraindeer · 25/02/2015 18:03

Hi newbie
Have you thought about trying yoga? I had big problems with my knees when I used to run. I went to the physio etc and it never got better but I tried yoga and all of the stretching helped and the muscles round the joint got stronger which stopped a lot of the pain.

I was ok with the spider push ups on tbc but the oblique knee ones were just awful. In my last go of tbc I managed 2 and was pretty pleased!

When I said yesterday (to fullsteam I thibk?) that I found beta in general easier I had forgotten about dynamic core which I did this am. Surely it is actually impossible to be able to do the scissor legs and then a v sit over and over again?!

Newbiecrafter · 25/02/2015 20:04

I didn't get a chance to call beach body but will tomorrow about the tai chi thing. Also think I may have a yoga DVD somewhere.

Thanks for your help purple. Thanks. Can I ask, how long did it take for you to notice an improvement in your knees?

Sarahlouboo · 25/02/2015 20:43

Hi everyone! Welcome Newbie Smile.

Missed a day yesterday, lower focus done today. Can any of you stay down and do a lunge hold after lunge pulses?! If so - respect! I did not nail those! Also totally knackered, grumpy and starving. Must be my hormonal surge Grin. Poor DH.

yumyumpoppycat · 25/02/2015 20:50

Newbie I think the cramps on low carb is to do with electrolytes and fixable but its all a bit sciencey for me. I am doing quite well with paleo diet at the mo, which is all about cutting out processed food, but I don't really want to recommend it as I keep falling of the wagon myself! i guess its all about keep trying until something clicks! The weighing scales haven't shifted for me this week but 2 people I see on the school run sep commented that I had lost weight...woo hoo. Fingers crossed beacbody can help / suggest a dvd.

Purple I think your right the spider ones should be doable by the end of alpha, its the oblique ones that are really impossible (but spider pushups is easier to remember!). Well done on beta btw!

yumyumpoppycat · 25/02/2015 20:52

Sarah I have to stand up for a second then go back to lunge ...it burns! Blush

OP posts:
spookyskeleton · 25/02/2015 20:58

Ooh lots of chatter today Smile

sarah I did lower focus today and, yes I can hold the lunge hold but it hurts - have only been able to do for the last 2 times (week 3 and week 4). However, I really struggle with the lunge squat progression as my legs are shot at that point. I do find the lower focus the easiest and most enjoyable.

When I said I nailed TBC, it didn't involve doing the spider push ups as I can't physically do a push up on my toes Blush I just mean that I have done as much as I physically can and don't collapse in a heap at anytime Wink

And stop with the scary beta talk. I am scared enough at what lies ahead Shock

Sarahlouboo · 25/02/2015 21:06

Respect Spooky! My fave is speed. Yumyum - I am bobbing up and down every five seconds, can't really describe it as a hold at the moment!

jemstipp · 26/02/2015 08:28

Yaay cardio recovery day Wink
