Happy New Year, everyone. If you've got a New Year resolution to do more exercise and think crazy Jillian may be the answer, come and sign in here for moral support, chat and a chance to moan.

Ripped in 30 L1 D2 done. Still hate cardio, but it felt like a good start to the year.

Oh ikwym! Some days I feel so motivated and energetic and others - urgh! But even Jillian doesn't like working out Grin!

Must be due on, I could cheerfully stick my head in an enormous chocolate cake this afternoon! Popcorn is just not hitting the spot!

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2015 16:46

If you've done shred/ripped before, then doing one week (ie 5 days) at each level might be better than the full 30 days. That's what I do nowadays. I don't think I'd like skipping between things every day (though that suits some) - I quite like knowing what to expect after the first day, particularly what weights to use. Ri30 L1 today I used every weight I've got from 1.5 to 6 kgs!

tabulahrasa · 27/01/2015 16:54

I could skip ahead...but then I'd be on level 2, I may well decide to do that from 2 to 3 though, lol

I hate level 2 on both shred and ripped btw, I'm convinced they're harder than 3

Jacksterbear · 27/01/2015 17:40

Made s return to Jollian today after a couple of weeks Shaun T-ing. L2 Ripped with 3kgs weights. My favourite JM workout! (Although was pretty glad to have to answer a v quick phonecall right in the middle of the bank cardio circuit! Grin)

Elphaba FlowersBrewCake (I have 2 non-sleepers too... eldest is 8 and has recently been put on melatonin by paed which has at least bought us back part of our evenings. Urghhhh. It's soul-destroying!)

Sarahlou, not that I am trying to steal you off this thread, but PPP into the "beachbody" thread if you want to talk T25!

tabulah I agree that some days just seen really hard for no apparent reason!

Jacksterbear · 27/01/2015 17:41

Argh loads of typos!

wibblyjelly · 27/01/2015 18:14

Halfway through level 2, and I really struggled. Didn't help that 2 year old ds kept getting in the way, asking for cuddles. Done it though, and tomorrow is another day.
I do agree about getting bored. I'm going to try it with the audio off tomorrow, as that helped a bit when I got to the same stage of Level 1

CheshirePanda · 27/01/2015 19:56

30DS L2 D7 done, although not my best performance I'd say. But I walked 7 miles today and did some housework. Now I have to resist eating DDs Soreen toastie loaf, which is her special treat.

blodynmawr · 27/01/2015 20:30

30DS L2 D7 done here too Cheshire.

Agree Cheshire, Delicious and Tabulah that some days I am more likely to be 'phoning it in' to quote Jillian than others.
But as long as I am sticking to the morning routine and clearly losing the inches then I am motivated enough to keep going!

ScienceRocks · 27/01/2015 21:03

Yoga meltdown l1 done. Sheesh.

ImogenQuy · 28/01/2015 06:43

Yoga Inferno L1 D2 done. Marginally less flailing and more co-ordination than there was on Monday, so I'll stick with it for a little while. But it's at least as hard as Ripped L3 (possibly harder - she wants me to do one-legged mountain climbers. This is a joke, surely?)

I get bored easily, but like Errol I like knowing what to expect (I also like having a plan), so now I have two DVDs on the go and do them on alternate mornings. I also only do 5 days at each level if I've done it before, but 10 if it's new to me (so I'll do levels 3 and 4 of Ripped in parallel with L1 of Yoga Inferno - haven't quite decided what I'll do in parallel with L2 of the yoga).

Elphaba, I feel your pain: DS was a diabolical sleeper and didn't reliably go through the night in his own bed till he was three and a half. The worst effect has been on my long-term memory - I actually can't remember much from his first couple of years when he was waking several times a night, which is probably just as well since one thing I do remember is seriously wishing I could die before I had to wake up again. Kudos to you for being prepared to contemplate a second. I just couldn't have gone through that again.

Hi, new here but on day 22 of the Shred! We're going on holiday next week and I'll be without internet. Any ideas on how to keep the momentum?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/01/2015 08:38

Welcome, butwhy. Personally I don't try to do 'exercise' on hols, as they're usually active anyway (watersports or lots of walking). Where are you going? (a bit Envy wherever it is, the weather is so rubbish here at the moment.)

Funny to see how marmite L2 ripped seems to be - I can't remember whether I liked or hated it! Tell you next week. Grin

butwhythistimemummy · 28/01/2015 08:56

We're going to Sri Lanka! Half quite active, half quite lazy! I've lost 10 pounds and feel really good this month, don't want to undo hard work...

ErrolTheDragon · 28/01/2015 09:05

Oooh....well presumably there will be a pool, I'd make sure I did some 'proper' swimming on the 'lazy' days. Apart from that, perhaps try to devise a circuit which you can do in the room - bodyweight exercises and low-impact cardio intervals (so the floor/shoes don't matter too much and not too noisy Grin). If you google low-impact HIIT I think you'll find some ideas.

butwhythistimemummy · 28/01/2015 09:16

Thanks, I'll have a look. Doesn't need to be so hard core but looking forward to not coming back with more work to do...

butwhythistimemummy · 28/01/2015 09:20

Also I thought to keep things going I might move on from the Shred after we've been back a couple of weeks. What is a good next step?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/01/2015 09:23

If you like the format of Shred, then Ripped in 30 is the obvious follow-on. L1 is a bit easier than shred L3 so should work well around a break. If you want something different, what sort of thing floats your boat? - various people will be able to recommend options.

butwhythistimemummy · 28/01/2015 09:35

I think I might give ripped in 30 a go but want to mix it up with something longer ideally!

ElphabaTheGreen · 28/01/2015 10:48

Phoned it in again today. I think I'm coming on with a lurgy so I shall spend today drinking copious amounts of tea and orange juice and pray it lets me off lightly.

Imogen I honestly thought after the travesty that was DS1's sleep, fate would let me off this time because 'all babies are different' don't you know? Nope. Not these two. They're like identical twins in looks, behaviour and development, just with a two and a bit year age difference. Hate sleep. No interest in weaning. HATE being put down. My only solace is that maybe DS2 will be a doddle to potty train as well. And YY to memory loss - my short-term memory is absolutely shot to bits. I used to be a lot sharper pre-DCs, but now I need things repeated. It's so embarrassing, and it's not 'baby brain', it's no bloody sleep! I try to avoid looking at articles that tell you how bad broken sleep is for your long-term health. They depress me.

Sarahlouboo · 28/01/2015 11:17

Butwhy - hope you have a lovely holiday! I think if you are aiming to maintain weight then swimming and some nice walks would do the trick? Do they have any classes there you could do? Well done on the weight loss!

I love Ripped in 30 and think it is an ideal follow on from Shred. I tried doing longer workouts after Shred but I find myself getting bored after the half hour mark so I have just stuck to her shorter DVDs but try and do it consistently five days a week. If you fancy a longer one then killer buns and thighs is about 45 mins I think?

Elephaba - hope you feel better soon

blodynmawr · 28/01/2015 18:21

30DS L2D8 done and again did all the cardio at Natalie intensity.
Will maybe contemplate L3 tomorrow but it is my least favourite level Confused!
I usually do NMTZ as an alternative to L3 Shred so will check out the Ri30 recommendation as another option.
Agree with Sarah about 30 min workouts suiting me better than longer ones, as long as I stick to doing them 5 or 6 days a week.
Get well to everyone under the weather!

tabulahrasa · 28/01/2015 18:52

30DSL1D8.

Ri30 is good to move onto, because although you go from level 3 to 1...it's a few minutes longer and it is more full on than 30DS level 1, so it feels like progression, well I thought so anyway, lol.

CheshirePanda · 28/01/2015 19:49

Hello all

30DS L2 D8 done (hope you enjoyed it as much as I did Blodynmawr?)
No, it was fine actually. I've settled at Anita for the high impact moves, and also the abs so I can try to get them RIGHT. I do Natalie for all the deep squats etc....bike riding makes those quite easy. I think I might do Ripped next....it's on YouTube so I don't even need to buy it:-)

Slightly (totally) jealous of butwhy jetting off to Sri Lanka Envy. Mind you, looking at the weather forecast we might all be skiing tomorrow in Peak District!! I'm excited. I'd get the Gluhwein out just in case, but I'm on a Dry January.

CointreauVersial · 28/01/2015 22:27

Well, I've done a couple of days of L2 now, and I'm not enjoying it as much as L1 - too much shoulder stuff! I actually pulled something this morning. I think I need to slow down on a couple of the moves - I can still make them count but will reduce the risk of injuring myself.

ImogenQuy · 29/01/2015 07:05

RI30 L3 D2 done. Today was one of those days when it was difficult - first I really struggled to get out of bed, then my balance was shot and I wobbled all over the place, then I phoned in the jumping lunges because I'd just had enough. I keep telling myself at least I did it.

butwhy, congratulations on the weight loss, and have a fabulous holiday in the sun Envy. If you really wanted to take a Jillian DVD with you, I recommend Yoga Meltdown: you don't need any weights or trainers, it's not as intense as some of her others (no cardio), but it's still a good workout.

Elphaba, hope you feel better soon. I used to lose my rag completely with
men people who chuckled about "baby brain": I don't suppose they'd have managed any better than I did on four hours of broken sleep a night. (Incidentally, we got a nanny in for a week to night wean DS at 9 months, after I'd been back at work for 3 months and was falling to pieces, so at least DH could share the load after that - we didn't have a holiday that year to pay for it, but it was really worth it, not least because I got a week of unbroken sleep while she was with us.)
