506.47 + 3.6 from me tonight = 510.07.
That's the 3rd time I've run this year. Feeling pleased with myself. Smile

MuseumOfHam · 06/01/2015 21:44

Oh my, just caught up with this thread after being wiped out by a sickness bug on Sunday and getting over the shock of going back to work yesterday.

Apophenia does it make me a bad person if I laughed at your treadmill going on fire?

A first outing tonight for my lovely new Pumas. Always used to be an asics girl (not to be confused with an Essex girl) but Pumas seem to feel comfier these days.

2.5 miles tonight = 515.57

MuseumOfHam · 06/01/2015 21:47

Um, 512.57 Sorry!!!

Sazorchard31 · 06/01/2015 21:49

Tiredemma wow that looks tough! Good luck!!

LaughingM · 06/01/2015 21:58

I can't believe how quickly we're building up these miles!

Lovely 5 miles this evening (although I did walk up the giant hill, but tried to power walk it and it didn't make too much difference to my pace) so 517.57

postmanpatsnewyearresolution · 06/01/2015 22:23

First run in my new Brooks shoes tonight. Had to run outside like a real runner as no time to drive to the gym, faff in the changing room, run, faff some more, zoom into Asda and buy something to get free parking, drive home again. Much quicker just to get dressed and out the door apart from the five mins jogging on the spot to keep warm while Garmin worked out where I was

4.7 miles to add makes 522.27

Nice pink shoes mitchy! All I had to contend with was running in near-darkness due to a stretch of street lights being out on the A4.

Suzannewithaplan · 06/01/2015 22:47

wow!
at this rate we should get over 2500 miles this month Shock

clary · 06/01/2015 23:42

Did a very weary (1st day back) 2.2 miles yesterday pm 524.77

AggressiveBunting · 07/01/2015 01:31

Adding 4 to make 528.77.

Really felt it this morning after yesterday's long run. Going to have to do some foam roller tonight if I'm going to get round my 15k hill run tomorrow. Might eat a cake- it's a carb, right?

kiwikaterpillar · 07/01/2015 05:42

I just managed to run (well jog but no stopping!) 3.43miles so I make the total to be 532.2. Grin

standingonlego · 07/01/2015 07:14

No miles to report but I have entered 2 races - 5k dirt/multi-terrain run on Sunday 18th Jan and a tough 10k in the summer Crich Monument Run. So with the wolf run in April too, I better get those trainers on.

holmessweetholmes · 07/01/2015 08:24

Do any of you do other exercise on your non-running days? I am currently in the happy position of having time for daily exercise. I'm tempted to run every week day, but am wary of overdoing it and injuring myself (had what I think was a minor stress fracture once).
Or I might do Shred (good for core strength), yoga or some weights. In better weather, maybe some cycling. Any opinions...?

Suzannewithaplan · 07/01/2015 08:38

?
Holmes, like you I'm scared that if I run more than every other day I will 'break' running.
For me it's cycling and weight lifting on the non running day's.
I may swap some of the cycling for running as time goes on but I think I'm quite lucky to get away with increasing mileage a bit too quickly so I don't want to push it.

Anyway I think cycling is good as a form of active recovery ?Wink

5madthings · 07/01/2015 08:51

I don't do specific exercise.but I cycle the school run with madthing5 in.the bike seat, 8-12 miles a day. Try to swim once a week, 80 lengths, was going to go today as it's a 'rest' day but my eczema is playing up and swimming won't help that. I will do some stretching and toning exercises and sit ups and push ups, say 20 mins. I don't want to overdo it with running so am running four days a week. Mon, Tues, the and sat. I could feel that I had run two days in a row last night, not painful but could feel it in my legs iykwim?

WiseKneeHair · 07/01/2015 09:06

I do a mixture of HIIT/ bodyweight exercises on some of the days I don't run. I also do yoga, sometimes on a run day, sometimes not.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2015 09:32

Will read back rest later just wanted to add my four dark miles from this morning before I forget them! 536.2.

Sirzy · 07/01/2015 09:41

I do weights/hitt type exercise most days and have just started doing some yoga

AggressiveBunting · 07/01/2015 09:46

I do Crossfit (plus jog there and back) before work on MWF and run TTS, rest Sunday. Realistically I quite often miss one of the runs just due to other stuff getting in the way (life admin, work, hangovers Blush), but trying not to skip between now and my big race on March 14th.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 07/01/2015 09:52

Four miles to add from this morning so the new total is 540.2.
I do yoga once or twice a week and occasionally cycle or swim when I get round to it.

Mitchy1nge · 07/01/2015 10:07

I don't do much deliberate exercise outside of running if I can help it at the moment, up to last HM I ran 5 days a week (twice in short bursts one day, once on the other days) saw my PT once a week which I imagined would be very vigorous or gruelling weights or whatever, but in fact involved lots of lying down listening to her disapproving noises while she stretched/massaged me. Seems I can overestimate my fitness, the integrity of my joints etc. Am going to try to run just 4 times a week and substitute the other runs for walks, gentle walks not my mad striding out type walks. Everyday life is pretty strenuous in its way at the moment, a lot of lifting and carrying (eg one of my horses drinks about 50 litres a day due to his pituitary disease and that has to be carried in two trips) and mucking out and extra riding. I walk/jog the dogs for between two and three miles once a day too which probably all adds up. Am tempted to get a step counter to assess exactly how many miles I cover outside of running, although sometimes use my Garmin to measure those walks so have a better idea of wear and tear on my elderly legs [grins]

I was doing a lot of hot yoga before I got back into the swing of running most days and though I wouldn't count it as exercise as such it was a big drain on my time and money which I really really really miss! Is just not the same at home although I try to keep up a minimal daily routine.

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2015 10:38

I walk the dogs for 3 - 5 miles every day, and run 4 or 5 times a week. I have the time to do so at the moment and I'm in training for a marathon in March so I want to keep up the fitness levels but without risking injury (which is why it is important to have 2 or 3 days off running a week).
I would cycle one day a week if I could be bothered to get my bike sorted! Cycling is really good cross training for runners because it uses slightly different muscles.
An easy 5.1 from me this morning.
545.3

Suzannewithaplan · 07/01/2015 10:41

Mitchy, since If your job/life is physically active then there is obviously far less need to deliberately exercise, indeed you'd need to conserve energy to make sure that you have sufficient oomph for the rest of your life.

My other half is like this, he has a physical job, lifts weights but can't afford the extra energy for hours of cardio ?

Mitchy1nge · 07/01/2015 10:43

I'm really a summer cyclist, my bike is just languishing in a friend's garage and has been since whenever our last beer festival type thing was in August

but then am really a summer runner too

anglaise is this your first (road?) marathon? am curious about your weekly volume, where will it peak? I want to do the least possible, and am hoping that just doing two or three 20 mile runs before the event will be enough to get round (unambitious) with my weekday runs each being half or less the distance of the long run (injuryphobe)

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2015 10:44

Mitchy I use a fitbit to check steps and activity each day. I usually manage 13,000 steps on non running days and 22 - 30,000 on running days. So above what you are supposed to do (10,000 per day). I want to lose a couple of kilos before my race in March to get to optimum race weight if I can ever work out what that should be. The Fitbit shows approximate calories burned so it's easier to keep a track of required food intake. Trying to adopt the mantra that 'Food is a fuel' - it helps!

Sirzy · 07/01/2015 10:45

Yes I have just got a fitbit and love it
