Would you all like to join me here?

OP posts:
NoisyOyster · 03/05/2015 15:56

W2r1 done. Did a silly thing and looked ahead to weeks 6,7,8...., 25 mins running non stop??!!

addictedtosugar · 03/05/2015 18:20

Don't worry about the later weeks. The programme is amazing, and really does work. Trust the programme, and be amazed by your progress.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 03/05/2015 18:44

NoisyOyster- I'm doing wk5 next week, it looks awful! Goes from a 8 min run to a 20 min run on the 3rd day. What a leap!
How did others cope with that? I will be so disheartened if I can't do it.

ditavonteesed · 03/05/2015 18:58

Just done w5 r2, not too bad, I can see the jump not being too bad you just need to learn to rest while running I think, so catch your breath running downhill and slow down when you need to. I think, mind you I might say differently when I actually come to it. I have got a serious Angry face going on though, that has ti be good doesnt it?

nicknamenonsense · 03/05/2015 19:05

Hello WestEast If you are anything like me there will be muscles in your legs aching so much tomorrow you will bwgin to wonder if it will be possible to ever run again, even for a minute! I was planning on doing W1 R2 tomorrow so I am hoping my muscles will have recovered by then!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 03/05/2015 19:30

Trouble is Dita I run on the flat so not sure when I can get my breath back! Oh well will cross that bridge when I come to it (next week, yikes).
So good to hear everyone getting on with it and the success stories though Smile

strawberrytablecloth · 03/05/2015 19:36

I've been running on a Mon, Weds & Sat but have been doing the Shred or going on my exercise bike on the other days. I think that perhaps if you're brand new to exercise you should take it slowly & gently but otherwise I don't see what the problem is.

DontDoItDi · 03/05/2015 20:06

It stopped raining! W3r2 done.

WestEast · 03/05/2015 20:41

Thanks nickname admittedly I did think I was going to vomit into a bush at one point! But it wasn't so awful that it's put me off doing again Smile
Though I am stiff as fuck now! Being doing lots of stretching this evening!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 03/05/2015 20:45

Excellent DontDoIt. I've just done Wk4R2, persuaded DH to come and he was impressed with my running speed. So feel even more motivated, but look like a ribena berry.

I was thinking about winter earlier and how I'd fit in the running. These light evenings are wonderful for fitting the runs in. Not sure i can run in ice/wind/rain etc. amazing I'm thinking ahead really as I'd never have thought of getting my arse off the sofa to run in winter before starting this app.

AppleSnapple · 03/05/2015 20:51

Oh dontdoit I am now 2 runs behind you!! Away for the weekend and the dc aren't really playing ball so haven't managed to get out. Might be Wednesday now before I do it! My fervour hasn't been dampened though!

DontDoItDi · 03/05/2015 21:51

Not much activity or travel going on in my life just now apple. DS is teenage and happy to be left while I put my trainers on and go out, and we're not doing much because he starts exams next week. So for the next few weeks I can keep at it, so long as I don’t get discouraged or hurt myself. It is good though!

I am a very slow runner idoallmyownstunts, and even slower on the uphill bits. Dunno what will happen in the winter. I downloaded the podcast in February but saved it til after the clocks changed. I might just have to start over again at week 1 next spring. Still, that's way too far ahead to worry about now.

ditavonteesed · 04/05/2015 10:39

There is a really good 10k race near me at the bedinning of dec and I think a lot of proper runners use it as a training reason to keep going over winter. Its called percy pud and you get a christmas pudding instead of a medal (I wanted a medal).

My current plan is to do a park run in June, a 10k at the end of sep, the 10k in dec and then if I can mange that I may try an ddo a half amrathon in April. How optimistic is that for someone who ran for 8 minutes yesterady?

nicknamenonsense · 04/05/2015 12:47

W1 R2 done this morning. My legs were still aching from W1R1 but DH said that was no reason not to do the second one! He did help me do lots of stretches last night and used some muscle roller thing plus massaged my calves for me so he is being supportive despite a slight lack of empathy!!

I can not even begin to contemplate the idea of running 10k, think it will be a minor miracle if I ever manage 5 at the moment!!

WhizzPopBang · 04/05/2015 15:04

Having been kicked up the arse by another thread, have just started C25k this weekend!

nickname I did W1R2 this morning as well, so you have me to empathise with you over aching legs Smile

Question for the more experienced runners - when you run do you put your heel to the ground first or just use the front half of your foot? Am keen to avoid shin splints again, not sure what the best technique is?

TapStepBallChange · 04/05/2015 18:11

Can I join you? After a slow build up, hampered by coughs colds, last week was W5 and I managed W5R3 yesterday, 10-15 minutes felt horrible, but i did it and had such a massive grin my face, it was amazing. I'm trying to work up to doing a 10K in October. I'm already starting to look for similar podcasts to get me form 5k to 10k,as I do love Laura. And also need something to get my running faster. I would love to be able to do 5k in under 30 minutes by the end of summer, but at about a 35-40 minute pace at the moment.

ditavonteesed · 05/05/2015 07:48

tap ball, I saw there were podcasts for 5k plus, were any of them build ups dsitance? When I did it before (6 years ago so the memory is fairly faint) I built up on time and it was a lot easier to get from 5 - 10k. I think it might be just cracking that 5k thats the hard bit.

There are definatly podcasts to help with speed.

NoisyOyster · 05/05/2015 11:35

It's HORRID out there today

I know I need to get out there sometime today.... But it's so cold and windy

CremeDeSudo · 05/05/2015 13:30

Hello ladies, can I join?

I'm about to start W5, but I'm a bit scared of R3! It seems like a massive leap? Anyone else find that?

I'm struggling on the 5min runs at the moment, mainly because my calves hurt though, not from being out of breath! Has anyone else found that? It feels like my muscles are about to seize up?

vikinglights · 05/05/2015 14:20

week 5 and that dreaded 20 minutes was surprisingly OK, I didn't do it fast but I did manage it, and quite frankly if I can do it anyone can!

w7r1 last night - sore thigh muscles this morning and I'm sort of waddling a bit like a penguin, but as DH said last night at least you're not stiff from just sitting on your arse all day....... ;-)

DontDoItDi · 05/05/2015 16:31

Did week3r3 this morning in the rain, where I discovered that my waterproof isn't very waterproof and that running in damp jeans is really unpleasant. My top was soaked and I had to hang all my clothes to dry apart from knickers! Even my socks were damp. But the running itself was OK. And I made damn sure I finished near home so I didn't have to walk back far in the rain.

I've downloaded Week 4 and I'm feeling a bit nervous about it. It looks like a big step up from week 3, with longer runs and more running time total as well. But at least the weather forecast for Thursday and Friday is dry.

nicknamenonsense · 05/05/2015 17:11

How are you feeling today Whizzpop? My legs are surprisingly OK. Very glad it is not a run day today as the weather is vile!! I usually swim in a Tues eve so I will see how I feel later as not feeling overly enthusiastic about that prospect either at the moment!!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 05/05/2015 18:04

Just done wk4r3. Found it harder today for some reason. Might have to give it another go before progressing to wk5, and the killer 20 min run!

addictedtosugar · 05/05/2015 18:26

creme If you've followed the programming to date, just trust it. When I get past about 8mins, everything gets easier again. Take it slowly, and believe in yourself.

doitdi Can you find anything other than jeans to run in? I chased after the kids yesterday in jeans and it was hard work. As you've discovered, they aren't good when wet either!!!!

addictedtosugar · 05/05/2015 19:08

Oh, and who was asking about getting to 10km? The NHS + podcasts are just 3 programme, one intervals, one to use as a introduction to paced running, and a 35 min paced run.

I know people wanting to get to 10km using the bridge to 5km app.
