Would you all like to join me here?

OP posts:

Evening all

W8r3 completed tonight. Really enjoying it now (so much that I ran an extra few minutes) just need to work on my breathing.
I've taken to borrowing the ds iPod - for such young ages, they have fab stuff including Guardians of the Galaxy theme tune Grin This is my current fave, plus Foo Fighters.

locketpocket · 30/04/2015 22:05

Dita - would you recommend Davinas DVD? I'm looking to balance out my training and have been looking at various DVDs

ditavonteesed · 30/04/2015 22:07

I was so happy when I found the app as the podcast music made me want to run quicker just to get it over with (I know thats not how time works before you start to worry)
I have only done a couple of the davina workouts but I seem to ache in the right places afterwards. I have the shred and ripped by Jillian Micheals which I did last year and they are much better but a bit too intense for me at the moment with my dodgy foot.

NoisyOyster · 01/05/2015 17:52

Shock I just ran w1r3. And I didn't hate it. Everything aches... But in a slightly good way. Is this what people mean when they say they feel glowy and good after exercise? Kinda feel full o' beans and like I want to do it all over again.
Though a cup of tea and a sit down equally sounds good Grin

One question though please- I bought myself a good sports bra, Freya???, on the recommendations from another thread- just wanted to ask how much the boobs are meant to move with it? It's tight, and feels secure, but they still jiggle a little bit IYSWIM. I thought sports bras meant they'd be flattened down rigid?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 01/05/2015 18:47

NoisyOyster- I was just thinking the same myself. Feel all glowy and proud and up for it having just run wk4r1. Yes I know I'm only running for 5 mins at a time but considering I struggled to run at all in the beginning I feel dead chuffed.

Does exercise release these feel good hormones? Or is it all psychological? Either way I feel motivated to carry on. Can't wait to be able to run 5k. Smile

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 01/05/2015 18:50

Plus I've just downloaded Now That's What I Call Running 2015. Some fab remixed tunes in a non jive bunny type way that give you a great beat to run to. Can recommend if anyone's sick of running to the sound of their own heavy breathing. Grin

ditavonteesed · 01/05/2015 18:50

they do need to move a littel I think, I also am large of nork, I am however wearing a sports bra that is very old and about 4 sizes to small for me, mine dont move at all ;).

See I dont know what I am doing wrong, I feel awful while I am running but I dont ache afterwards at all.

NoisyOyster · 01/05/2015 19:16

Oh good dita I'm also of large bust!, glad there's still meant to be a bit of wobble Grin

ownstunts you're on w4?? Crikey. Can't see beyond running for a min at a time yet!

Cadsuane · 01/05/2015 19:45

W2r3 finished. Found it a bit harder going but I had already walked 11 000 steps before I started (5 000 on the way home) so not too worried and am looking forward to an early morning start to week 3 on Sunday.
At the moment the majority of the songs left on my running playlist seem to be Billy Idol. Good solid beat to run to. Just as long as I resist the urge to start singing along to Moany Moany. Not only will I expire from lack of breath but the local dogs will start howling to.

DontDoItDi · 02/05/2015 11:43

Does anyone have any suggestions for earphones that will stay in place when we're running? Mine fall out all the time.

addictedtosugar · 02/05/2015 13:28

Best method I've found is to wear a headband or one of those multi wear type headband thingies. My problem with this solution is I get toooooo hooooottttt.

DontDoItDi · 02/05/2015 15:51

Thanks addictedtosugar. Getting too hot isn't much of a problem right now Sad I wore a woolly hat last week and that helped but when (if!) the weather gets better again a headband would be better!

addictedtosugar · 02/05/2015 16:16

I got too hot today (in NE England) and had to take the headband off for the last 10 mins :(
I still look like a beetroot and hour later....

nicknamenonsense · 02/05/2015 16:55

Hi everyone. I did my first run this morning and was pretty chuffed with myself as I am definitely not a morning person or a running person but I was out at 8am!! DH who has done several half marathons and is cycling a stage of the Tour de France this year was still in bed and in slight disbelief when I got home and told him. I am determined to crack this as I have attempted it twice before over the years but this time I am not going to give up!!

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 02/05/2015 20:22

Great stuff Nickname- I find the app really motivating. I am a complete non-runner but am now on level 4. And now actually find myself looking forward to my runs. What's that all about!?Grin
Those asking about headphones- sports direct have some wrap around the head ones and some that loop over the ear. About a fiver each. My daughter has the loop round the ear ones and finds them good to run in.

strawberrytablecloth · 02/05/2015 20:55

I've just run 5k! I finished C25k last week with a 30 min run but didn't think I'd gone far enough so mapped out a route and did it today. It took me 40mins but I did it! 9 weeks ago, I could barely manage W1R1. I've lost 1lb and my bum & thighs have completely changed shape.

nicknamenonsense · 02/05/2015 21:22

Wow that's fab strawberry and very motivating!
Does everyone run every other day or do you sometimes run on consecutive days?

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 02/05/2015 21:37

Brilliant Strawberry and really motivating to hear people reaching the 5k goal. Can't believe I will get there!

Advice is its important to run every other day to give your muscles, capillaries etc chance to grow. The rest days are as important as your running days for increasing strength apparently. I wonder if swimming or something in between runs would be ok though?

DontDoItDi · 02/05/2015 23:02

I’m being very careful to leave a day in between runs. I don’t want to risk straining anything because now I’m past 50 it can take such a long time to recover.

I think swimming would be OK, I went swimming last week and that was fine. And the NHS website has a five-week set of outdoor Strength and Flex podcasts that they say you can do on the days you’re not running, though I haven't tried them.

DontDoItDi · 02/05/2015 23:05

PS It's really encouraging to hear about people who can do 5K strawberry. And well done! Though I go so slowly even if I do manage the whole 9 weeks I don't think I'll be running 5K.

NoisyOyster · 03/05/2015 00:18

Well done strawberry!!!!

AtSea1979 · 03/05/2015 00:26

Checking in. Today I joined a group doing the couche to 5k. There was about 100 people. They split them in to 4 groups. 1 being those who were pretty fit, to 4 who are very unfit. I am in group 4. I'm proud that I completed day 1 today, and i'm motivated to complete the 9 weeks. At the end we have an organised 5k run with tshirt and medal.

Cadsuane · 03/05/2015 12:39

W3r1 this morning in the rain. I was worried I would overheat with my rain jacket on but i wish I had remembered gloves it was so cold. Last bit of the second 3 minute run was tough but I changed direction so the wind and rain were at my back. That and a change of song made all the difference I needed to keep goingSmile. I might switch to Tuesday and Thursday this week as Thursday is a training day so I will be sitting around a lot instead of on my feet. I also pass the polling station at the start/end of my route so can get two jobs done at the same time.

WestEast · 03/05/2015 14:10

Hello, though I'd join, I've just done W1r1 and I feel a combination of proud and bloody knackered! I'm rather overweight (18stone!) and I've lost 4 stone by eating better and I feel physically able to add in exercise. Plus I've recently stopped smoking so I may as well give my lungs a work out! I'm planning on doing my runs on Mondays, Thursday and Saturdays, does that sound ok?

DontDoItDi · 03/05/2015 14:46

I want to go out today but not in this much rain. The forecast says it's going to clear up late in the afternoon so fingers crossed, if not I might leave it til tomorrow and I wont feel too guilty because I went out last on Friday. But if it rains tomorrow too I might have to brave it. Great that you managed it even in the rain cadsuane, that's an encouraging thought.

Welcome WestEast. Well done on all that healthy eating and yes, leaving a day or two in between should be fine.
