right

have pre-entered via the captains

will have to rearrange my life a bit as they train on Sunday mornings but imagine if we won!

originalpiratematerial · 12/11/2014 10:47

Mitchy you're getting me all excited here - I'm a VERY slow runner so the thought of having to slow down makes me feel rather light-headed Grin.

Did another short run this morning - four mins running two mins walking - 2.2 miles. Hip slightly creaky when I started but got better as I went on.
So 353.1

originalpiratematerial · 12/11/2014 10:49

Next time out I will try five minutes running, one minute walking.

I've been doing a proper warm-up even though I feel like a real prat as it's quite busy at the edge of the park of a morning. I do think it helps.

Having a sports massage later because the studio where I go for them (and do Pilates) is closing Sad and I've got some credits to use up. I'm going to miss it so much. I've been going there for years - since I was a big unfit heffalump with a crocked back who realised she desperately needed to get off the couch and DO something.

Mitchy1nge · 12/11/2014 12:02

am glad it is going well :)

had to bail out at 3 miles in this morning then walk the other 2 (didn't really have to but calf was complaining more loudly and thought it would be sensible) usually as I walk it dies down a bit but not today Confused, now I'm sort of torn between benefits of cutting back and resting it a bit against the value of meeting my goals (is not as if am aiming particularly high here)

will have to go crawling back to physio after making such a fuss about being penalised for missing an appointment ages ago Blush

356.2

OH MY GOD YOU FELL OFF MY TIO ShockShockShock

ThursdayLast · 12/11/2014 13:32

Ok I'm back. I basically had a week off, not sure why Confused but I feel pretty good for it.

5miles today, in the blustery chill - I met a beautiful German Pointer on the way.
361.2

actiongirl1978 · 12/11/2014 13:57

Hi everyone, sorry to hear about your calf mitchy, from the miles you have been logging on here, you have done a lot in the last week and it does sound like you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself. Could you give it a week of rest and see if it feels better (or have you already done that?)

Originalpirate, I am useless at warming up. I have been running quite happily for over 2 years without doing so, and even now I know more about it and have read so many warm up articles in runners world, I still just get out of the door and run. Frankly if I tried a quick jog before I ran, I wouldn't run as far! What are you doing in your warm up? I have conceded to some walking lunges and a few squats or butt kicks in the last few weeks but that's as far as I can bring myself to go!

Anyway, miles including my 4.1 from this morning is 365.3

LaughingM · 12/11/2014 15:31

cinammon thanks for clarifying about the speed, I think I had it the wrong way round in my head... My brain can't compute miles per minute vs km per hour!

Hope the calf is ok Mitchy. Could you drop to running every other day for a week or so?

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 16:54

Had a quick 3k run - don't think I'm really made for long dustance although maybe I just need to try a bit harder. Will try and do 5k on Friday Smile

So that's 367.2

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 16:59

When I said quick I didn't actually mean quick of course Grin. Just 3k takes less time than 5k. Although still under 9 min/mile which for me is quite nippy :)

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 12/11/2014 17:27

Here you all are!! I thought I'd lost you.
Sorry to hear about all the injuries and general creakiness!
I have 3 miles to add from last week and 8 miles to add from today.
I have decided to sign up for London winter 10k which is in Feb. I will have to wait til payday at the end of the month though as it's quite expensive.
If anyone else fancies it, let me know and we can organise meet-up! Grin

New total is 378.2.

BirdhouseInYourSoul · 12/11/2014 18:54

Just thought I'd catch up here before I head out for my second run :)

Thanks so much for the lovely welcomes!

I almost went for a run this afternoon. In daylight Shock but I ended up in a game of phone tag/on-hold-chicken instead. But I was surprisingly keen.

I spent ages compiling a wish list of running shoes and clothes and have promised myself a teeny spree in the january sales once I've finished this c25k thing.

This morning I saw some people I'd worked with in February and a couple commented on how well I was looking and asked if I'd lost weight. It's the first time it's been mentioned really and it was quite lovely to hear Blush I'm not even half way to my goal but I do feel a bit more motivated to keep the running up to add to the gym stuff I already do.

Happy running guys :)

Mitchy1nge · 12/11/2014 20:35

Miranda! if I ever clock an 8 anything mile the whole world hears about it

anything under 10 is speedy for me

10-10:30 is comfortable

thanks laughing and action I will take tomorrow off, have been stretched and massaged and foam rollered and hurt with The Beast (that awful black knobbly roller) and feel amazing. Have a long one on Friday and a chance to do some of the half course on Saturday (maybe 6-8) then nothing on Sunday

I just need to stretch calf and achilles much more often and for longer and use the foam roller I think. And ice after runs. I am so cold after a run though that I can never bear it, I wonder if biofreeze spray would help?

ScienceRocks · 12/11/2014 20:57

381.7

Just did the stamina podcast. Oof. All you lot talking about speed only convinces me further how slow I am. I ran 10 minutes at 7.8kph, then 20min at 8.6kph and finally 5min at 9.4kph. When I can do a park run in under 35 minutes, I don't get how fast it feels on the treadmill when I run slower Confused

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 22:08

But Mitchy you go much further than I go. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Have been trying to work out a 5k route round here (am staying with my mum and dad while I'm working down here this week) that doesn't involve a slope (to me they are hills but they're probably slopes to other people) as when dp comes down at the weekend I'd like us to do a reasonable 5k. I need to test run it on Friday I think :)

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 22:11

And in my park run that puts me about 3/4 of the way through. But it is quite a big one and v flat.

originalpiratematerial · 12/11/2014 22:12

Mitchy I hope your calf is ok - sounds like you had a good treatment on it so fingers crossed!

ScienceRocks - I totally agree - i can run at 10 kph outside and it feels fine but if I run at 10 kph on the treadmill it feels scarily fast! I am a bit scared of the treadmill anyway Blush

Cardiff tell us when and where the London winter 10k is? I mean I know it's in London obviously but whereabouts? Am tempted, I need a goal to aim for!

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 22:13

I get a cold bottom after running when I have my running tights on. Is ok in shorts though. Have been running in shorts this week as tights would be much too warm. Am glad as I left my gloves at home (running gloves that is - as I have raynauds syndrome I generally have a variety of gloves)

originalpiratematerial · 12/11/2014 22:14

actiongirl in all honesty i don't do a lot more than that! I do some leg swings though, after butt kicks and knee raises, to loosen up my hips a bit, and I do some walking lunges (which make me feel like a total prat) and a few stretches. That's all really.

MirandaWest · 12/11/2014 22:14

I've never run on a treadmill apart from when doing gait analysis. Am scared I would fall off Blush

originalpiratematerial · 12/11/2014 22:31

That is my fear too, Miranda Grin

After all, I did manage to fall off a rowing machine once Confused

ScienceRocks · 12/11/2014 22:49

I think the treadmill keeps me going. I fall over outside Blush

Maybe I take bigger steps when I run outside? 'Tis a mystery.

Looked at running tights today but couldn't bring myself to buy them and got another pair of trousers instead. I have bought some new sports bras too. Very excitingly, they are padded. This means I will be able to strip down to a t shirt when running outside without taking someone's eye(s) out Smile

feetheart · 12/11/2014 23:02

Cardiff - I want to do the Winter 10k but haven't signed up yet. I did mention it to the MN Wolefs a while ago and some of them were interested too. Need to mention it again. I really liked the idea of seeing the sights without having to do 26.2 miles (and was rather taken by the idea of snow and polar bears :))

And whilst on the Wolef topic - those of us who did the Autumn Wolf Run are planning to do the Spring one on April 11th. If anyone fancies it come and get muddy with us :o

HalleLouja · 13/11/2014 07:25

Feet am still considering Fred Hughes but think Winter 10k is a bit too pricy to justify.

HalleLouja · 13/11/2014 07:26

For a standard 10k. The wolf one I would pay for. If that makes sense.
