OhOne it's an achievement to run 10k-most people can't so you're not last. My running coach never uses the words 'slower', just 'less fast' or 'steady runners'Wink

Suzannewithaplan · 07/12/2014 17:08

8.34 from me today
so:
existing total 222.7 +
Thebigbum 6.1 +
mine 8.34

=237.14

TheBigBumTheory · 07/12/2014 17:12

Thanks for doing the maths suzanne Thanks

Suzannewithaplan · 07/12/2014 17:30

no probs:o
I did it on a excel spreadsheet so no neurons were overstressed Wink

originalpiratematerial · 07/12/2014 18:25

3.2 miles from me yesterday, so that's 240.34. And my farking hip hurts AGAiN Angry.

originalpiratematerial · 07/12/2014 18:28

Congrats OhOne, Laughing and BigBumTheory!

OhOne any tips on IT band treatment? I keep having physio, and it gets better, and I do rehab runs, and so on - and then it goes again Sad.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/12/2014 21:38

pirate the only thing that really seems to have worked for me is completely not running. I reached a point where I couldn't sleep because it was so sore - stretches/yoga weren't touching it. I saw a sport masseur recommended by Blathers (where is she by the way, haven't seen her for ages on here) who was able to loosen it a bit, but then RL got in the way and I just didn't have the time, energy or opportunity to run.

I think mine stems from over-training last year for a marathon and ignoring a calf strain/achilles pain on my right side (which meant my gait was out of kilter). I had a suspected stress fracture in my left foot back in May and have not really run properly since then (my parkrun time has gone up by several minutes). Rest is probably the answer to all my problems - not running a half marathon on no training Grin.

ScienceRocks · 08/12/2014 09:59

I'm nothing if not determined! Such a lovely morning that I thought I would go for a run, despite deciding last night that I'd give myself a break and do some jillian instead. Well, I say run, but I went so slowly - deliberately, because I didn't want to get breathless. - that I may as well have been walking. Still, I did 3.1 miles, even if it did take me 43 minutes Shock. To be fair, the dog was in a sniffy mood so made me stop a few times but it was still over 40 minutes. But I did it, which has helped me regain a little confidence.

New total is 243.44.

ScienceRocks · 08/12/2014 10:00

Well done to the 10kers (and everyone else who has run recently), by the way.

Suzannewithaplan · 08/12/2014 11:17

?Well done for getting back on the horse Science
Slow running sounds like the way to go.
Slow running raises your heart rate more than enough to do all sort of magical and beneficial things to the entire body-mind system ?
?Certainly works for me:o

MirandaWest · 08/12/2014 11:57

1.9 miles for me this morning :) Getting harder to fit in running with all the other things happening at the moment but my bf made me get out of bed when he left work Grin

245.34

MirandaWest · 08/12/2014 11:58

That should have been when he left for work...

He's gone away to work for a couple of days and is staying in a hotel with a gym. He's going to have a go on a treadmill. Neither of us has any confidence in our abilities on a treadmill Grin

Anglaise1 · 08/12/2014 12:19

Never tried a treadmill. Is it harder or easier than running outdoors? I just love being outside even in the cold and wet.
Speaking of which, 6.2 from me this morning.
251,54
Another 10k race on Saturday so mileage will be a little lower this week.

ScienceRocks · 08/12/2014 12:32

Miranda I have a treadmill. I find it really useful because I don't like running at night and sometimes don't manage to get out during the day because of the DCs and work. I also find it good for interval training because I can crank up the speed or incline in a much more controlled way that I can outside Grin I also watch things on my ipad at the same time, and even dye my hair, because nobody can see me! The downsides are that it can feel relentless, you can get hyper-aware of speed and distance, and it is a bit noisy! The view isn't bad because I have it looking out over the hills, but it doesn't change very much!

actiongirl1978 · 08/12/2014 14:05

I have a possible 1.5 miles to add of fartlek in the frost before school, I then managed a pilates class to stretch it all out, so feeling good. So current total
253

Treadmills super easy, just jump on the sides if you need to stop!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 08/12/2014 20:32

Hey running dudes!

I haven't run since last Tuesday. I was having some knee pain so I've been taking it easy. So easy in fact that I've injured my back! I'm not sure how I've done it but I have mild to moderate pain in my lower back now and have done since about Thursday. I thought I'd go to yoga tonight to try and stretch it out but I think I've made it worse!
So, my question is... Do I go to the GP or to sports physio, or even to a chiropractor or osteopath or what?
I should probably add that I absolutely HATE being ill or injured or not absolutely 100%. It makes me terribly grouchy! GrinAngry

karatekimmi · 08/12/2014 20:58

Some amazing 10k's with times I can only dream of!! Well done!!

I have a 3.1 parkrun, a 7.3 Sunday run and an easy easy 3.1 recovery run from me,

266.5 I think

cinnamongreyhound · 08/12/2014 21:59

I'd say a physio CardiffUniversityNetballTeam, gp will give you pain killers and tell you stop doing what ever hurts. My Dh has back problems and doesn't like chiropractors but I have no experience. My ex saw an Oesteopath with very good results.

4.5 miles leading my new canicross club, a bit nervewracking as I don't know them well and they had never run in the dark before! There was actually frost on the ground as we were finishing :)

another vote for physio, one that knows about running would be good (are you in a club? They will have/recommend someone).

Amazing racing at the weekend everybody! I have blown my own mind by having a day off yesterday when I usually run twice - overslept and can't help noticing Original Soleus Strain is sort of blinking away like it does in its earliest stages. Running club tonight will mean I've had practically 3 days off since Saturday.

ScienceRocks · 09/12/2014 08:28

Cardiff, I'm a pharmacist and would recommend putting some heat on your back (a hot water bottle will do) and taking some anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen (assuming you can take them without any issues) regularly for a few days. The heat will increase blood flow to your back, which in turn will mean the body's natural anti-inflammatories will get to the area in greater quantities. Taking the ibuprofen will increase the effect and act as pain relief as well.

HalleLouja · 09/12/2014 09:41

This looks interesting.

emummy · 09/12/2014 10:50

That does look interesting HalleLouja, would make an interesting change from my usual fartlek. Worried I might get mixed up with which bit I was on though! Might give it a try,if it can make me faster it could work for anyone!
2.7 miles from me, a warm up then hill repeats on new steeper hill then home.
273.7

Blatherskite · 09/12/2014 13:05

I'm here! My Garmin is refusing to upload at the moment and between decorating the lounge, Christmas nights out, planning DD's birthday party and christmas, I haven't had time to fix it and so haven't really had anything to post about. I even took a couple of weeks almost off running which I really needed as the summer was quite intense and the cross training has done me the world of good.

Will try and get this bloody thing fixed and update...

EdithDickie · 09/12/2014 16:18

Been two weeks since last run Sad thanks to awful chesty cough that just won't go. Feeling so unfit and like I am going to have to start from scratch when I finally can exert myself at all without coughing uncontrollably Sad

Suzannewithaplan · 09/12/2014 17:03

How frustrating Edith:(
hope you're rid of it soon!
I was continually out of action in my 20's from coughs and colds, now that I'm old I'm immune to everything and havent been ill for years.

8 miles from me today so 281.7
I run by the sea where it was especially windy today and so I was even slower than normal
