I do want a balaclava! yesterday I only really had my eyes out of the buff and they were covered by sunglasses Blush

am mourning my coldgear compression tights, and my saucony winter running tights with their thermal lining but WHERE ARE THEY?

actiongirl1978 · 06/12/2014 11:53

Morning all, yes definitely a morning for the thermals and extra running accessories! Don't know how cold it was, but it was VERY cold!

I ran a beautiful 6 miles or so, I was supposed to do intervals but it was too pretty and so I just enjoyed the view the fresh air and the exercise.

ITB still driving me nuts, any ideas out there apart from the foam roller?

In terms of running tights I wear decathlon and they work a treat, not insulated but I wear long knee high socks underneath too which helped today.

Happy running everyone who still has their run to come!

Suzannewithaplan · 06/12/2014 12:40

?
There must be yoga postures that will help with ITB Actiongirl, possibly pigeon pose?
?
The yogatic channel on youtube has some yoga for runners vids?

Yep it's time to break out the knee high socks!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/12/2014 12:58

I had many layers on today but was volunteering at parkrun. I have a lightweight jacket to wear over my top for cold weather but just go from 3/4 leggings to full length. Got one of the parkrun fleeces for my birthday which is super lightweight but warm so will probably wear that this year :)
Managed to sort a few people to run with me tomorrow so even if one can't I'll manage to get out!!

Park run this morning - DDs first one - not sure she liked the cold but with a combination of running and walking we did it :) DS got a new pb of 27:21 which I am very impressed with (he is definitely faster than me now. I need to go faster Grin)

MirandaWest · 06/12/2014 13:15

Can't find the latest total but have 3.1 to add :)

Anglaise1 · 06/12/2014 18:31

Wish we had park runs in France Sad
I never run in more than a long sleeve top and water/windproof jacket, plus gloves if really cold and a neck cover thingy. And long bottoms in the winter.
Except for races, I usually always run in the club top with T shirt if cold and shorts or 3/4 if very cold.
Didn't intend to run today but friend wanted to and as it was such beautiful weather I couldn't refuse, so 6.1 to add, I think including MirandaWest that makes
154.29

ScienceRocks · 06/12/2014 20:22

Very Sad after another run that went wrong. Tried the treadmill, hoping it was the cold that made me breathless. Was going fine, then suddenly just couldn't catch my breath. Slowed down, no improvement, slowed to a walk, still nothing so had to stop. And was nearly sick. Was determined to carry on, so went back on a few minutes later but it happened again, and then again later in the day when I walked home. I live at the top of a hill, but am normally fine. I just can't seem to recover at the moment.

So just 2.2 miles from me today Sad

ScienceRocks · 06/12/2014 20:22

156.5 is the new total.

standingonlego · 06/12/2014 22:57

Hello...inspired by wolf run entry and a gorgeous frosty morning I have a fresh and crispy 5.1 miles to add taking us to 161.6

mitchy I have those Ron hill crazy tights as well I think....mine have random pink triangles at the side of the knees. But this morning ran in my new e-bay bargain thermal winter Ron hills, wonderful and warm as toast

Hope it is just a little blip -science take care and take it steady

Mitchy1nge · 07/12/2014 07:47

mine have yellow triangles :)

sounds like a rest is a good idea science sorry you're not feeling well, some kind of wintry bug?

forgot to add 2 from yesterday after friend bailed, I was late too Blush but it was too nice not to

did action add hers to the total?

feetheart · 07/12/2014 09:37

A quick, and probably late, good luck to the Ohone family and whoever else was doing the Bedford Half today. Lots of red-topped Striders should be out there too but I won't be one of them this time - maybe next year.

actiongirl1978 · 07/12/2014 09:37

No I didn't, so that makes 170.4 with mitchy and my miles which I have now checked and they were in fact 6.6miles!

Really need to get some intervals in and a long run before weds, no idea how I am going to fit it all in as it's nativity week so it's all getting a bit frantic.

Science I hope you feel better. Is it hyperventilating? A doctor friend of murine told me that if you start to hyperventilate during running you should sing to yourself as it will distract you and your breathing will find a rhythm again and stop you feeling panicky. I hyperventilate a lot and it's good advice!

ScienceRocks · 07/12/2014 10:11

I'll try that action, thanks for the suggestion. Breathing has never been a problem with running for me (my legs give up first!) so I will try and slow it down. Not sure I can sing though, I can't even talk when running even though I run incredibly slowly . I might have been trying to push my speed a bit too much, so maybe that hasn't helped.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/12/2014 10:18

Perhaps you'll find you come down with something ScienceRocks? hope it improves on your next run what ever is up :)

So different today than yesterday, windy, warmer and on and off rain :( still had a lovely run despite some diversions due to the MTB riders. Managed 4.5miles of the 5 we planned. So total is 174.9

Anglaise1 · 07/12/2014 11:51

I hope you feel better soon science, if you don't usually have a problem breathing maybe it is a virus or infection or something...I had a problem a couple of months back when I went down with a kidney infection, strangely it was the breathing and weakness during a run that was the first sign of the illness.
8.25 miles from the training session with the club this morning, hill interval training in the woods to prepare for the cross country.
183.15

emummy · 07/12/2014 11:52

A nice easy 6.5 in the army morning sunshine - got to see the sunrise in fact!
181.4

HalleLouja · 07/12/2014 13:12

8 miles makes 190.4.

My longest run ever.

Science I think you are probably coming down with something.

LaughingM · 07/12/2014 13:44

science that sounds really tough, I second everyone else that maybe you are coming down with something? Can you give yourself a good few days break and maybe if you're worried do a run/walk run next time?

Halle well done on your long run!

Bedford half-ers, hope it went / is going well!

I did my first 10k race yesterday... entered on a bit of a whim as I'd had a bit of a hellish week and I wanted to divert myself away from comfort food and gin. Came in at 1:20, which made me last Grin but I didn't care, I was just so relieved to get over the finish line! So 6.2 to add from that and 5 from earlier in the week... so 201.6

ThursdayLast · 07/12/2014 14:18

Hello friends!
Been off this week, not deliberately but somehow theses days sre so much shorter than I just can't find the time and/or motivation to run.

However, I do have a nice big fat juicy 8 miles to add today Grin

HalleLouja · 07/12/2014 15:19

Well done laughing. Good work after a bad week.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/12/2014 15:52

Thanks for the good wishes Laughing

All three of us got round, with a combined time of about 6:40.

It rained at the start, but the sun came out eventually and it was lovely. I ran/walked from 10 miles - my head was all over the place and I ran out of energy, so I was 20 mins slower than last year (when I was a month post-marathon, so a lot fitter, stronger and leaner than I am now). It was every bit as tough as I remembered, but I didn't stop running on the big hills in the first 8 miles.

IT Band hardly complained, although my achilles/calf niggles set in from about 6 miles. So the rest has done me some good!

222.7 with Thursday's 8 Smile

TheBigBumTheory · 07/12/2014 15:52

Just back from my first ever 10k, really enjoyed it despite hail and wind Smile finished in 51:54 so very pleased as was aiming at 54-56.

So 6.1 from me. Now in a hot bath Blush

Well done to all running through the colder weather, it's tougher to fit it in when the days are shorter.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/12/2014 15:56

Laughing just spotted your 10K yesterday - there must have been some really fast runners. My PB for 10K is my user name, but I'm often a lot slower and 1:20 is a perfectly respectable time for a first 10K.

Science hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks for the good wishes feet - deffo see you next year (I have this year's time to beat now Smile)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/12/2014 15:57

Well done BigBum, that's a brilliant time!
