Emummy Grin I know what you mean about the slow part of the long slow run!

Mitchy, really pleased to hear you are getting something from the training. I know that my PT works with a physio sometimes and knowing about how to build and repair muscles is as big a part of it as the cardio or weights etc. He is a big fan of the foam roller and I did spend part of one session lying on a gym mat in a pub carpark with a golfball underneath my thigh and him pressing down on the other side of my leg. I was groaning and there were some very amused and nosy looks from all the people going into the pub for lunch! Still after the hill sprints I had been doing, it worked a treat on my muscles!

So this morning I did my long run, but it wasn't as slow as I managed last week, averaged at 6.32mins per km which is about a minute slower than I can do a normal shorter run. I managed 7.9 miles which I am thrilled with as it is the longest distance I have ever done and it made me feel that the HM is achievable! So thats just over a 10 minute mile, which is ok for training I think?

So cold this morning though, I had a jacket on, a neck warmer and a headband! Brrrr!

actiongirl1978 · 25/11/2014 12:53

833.4 rounding up the second decimal place....!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/11/2014 14:00

I'm smiling to myself about how many layers Mitchy1inge is wearing the last couple of days, imagining michelin man Wink

Really don't want to run tonight, I'm so sick of the dark!!! I know I'll enjoy it once I get out but I just want it to be spring!

Haha! I think you will spot me easily on Saturday (are you still doing the 10k with dogs?) as I will be the only person there's not much visible of (am always wearing sunglasses too) under all the fabric

Mitchy1nge · 25/11/2014 15:03

well done action :)

actiongirl1978 · 25/11/2014 15:17

Cinnamon, can you plan for a nice weekend run in the light to get you through your dark evening runs? I love running in the dark but only in the early mornings and with streetlights. It always seems darker at night!

Thanks Mitchy. My back and glutes are slowly seizing up, am looking forward to taking the children swimming after school so I can have a nice sit down on the side of the pool!

feetheart · 25/11/2014 16:12

Surely that should be Mitchylin Man :o

Mitchy1nge · 25/11/2014 16:17

oi!

Suzannewithaplan · 25/11/2014 17:35

5.1 miles from me takes it too 838.5

Mitchy1nge · 25/11/2014 17:44

off to running club wearing only a duvet usual running underwear, vest, long sleeve high neck merino, buff, tights, compression socks, winter jacket, gloves when I can find them, shoes

I guarantee there will be people stripping down to vest and shorts. I suppose if I was in the sub 6:00 group I would get warm enough to do the same!

EdithDickie · 25/11/2014 17:50

4.55 miles from me this afternoon. Slow and painful as I went too soon after lunch.

EdithDickie · 25/11/2014 17:51

843.05

Smile
Mitchy1nge · 25/11/2014 19:45

5 incredibly enjoyable miles with my striders

848.05

LaughingM · 25/11/2014 20:29

2.5 slightly rubbish miles from me (just couldn't be bothered really so had a couple of 1min walking breaks) - must be LazyM this evening Grin. I'll count it as my 'easy' run of the week!

850.55

cinnamongreyhound · 25/11/2014 22:27

I usually run parkrun at the weekend actiongirl1978. I'm running a 10k this Saturday which will be in the light. I usually do one evening and one morning but morning is still in the dark as I have to be back by 7 :(

Yes I am Mitchy1inge, I'll be the one attached to two very different sizes brindle dogs with green harnesses Grin see pics! I had short sleeves and 3/4 tonight.

Had a really shit day! Cried A LOT but still ran and felt better for it. So 4 miles to add from me 854.55

Mitchy - sorry :o
Beautiful dags cinnamon

I can add about 5 from last night - Garmin spent an age connecting so missed at least half a mile Hmm It seems to sulk on club nights!

859.55

How close to 1000 can we get by Sunday?

Suzannewithaplan · 26/11/2014 00:00

?I expect to do another 10, maybe 12 at the most by sunday, wish I could do more but most of my cardio is cycling right now, I'll end up injured if I put all my eggs in the running basket

Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 08:10

your dogs look SO NICE I love their faces! Massive soft spot for hounds! Am one of those annoying 'can I say hello to your dog?' runners, not that owners seem to mind but people I run with do a bit

are you starting at 8 or 9 on Saturday?

sorry you had an awful day

cinnamongreyhound · 26/11/2014 08:46

Never met any of those runners Mitchy1inge! Usually meet the 'keep those things away from me/out of my way' runners Grin
9am start for me, you?

OP posts:
Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 09:29

it must be 9 for me too, the email confused me but everyone says is 9

am pleased it's in two laps, and there are jelly babies for sustenance :)

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 26/11/2014 13:58

I have 5.3 misty, soggy miles to add to the total. I am running out of place to run that aren't either waterlogged or which are just running along the sides of main roads!

Total is 864.8. Smile

actiongirl1978 · 26/11/2014 14:20

What do you all eat on long runs for energy (can you tell my new obsession is long runs?!)

I tried a jelly baby the other day but it was too sweet and made me feel sick and I just looked at the ingredients of gels when I was in decathlon this morning, but in my real life I would always avoid all those ingredients!

Is there a less sugary way of getting energy while running?

Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 16:34

you probably don't need anything up to about half marathon or much beyond, although my friend has been experimenting for our half this Saturday not sure if she will go with the jelly babies or the high 5 gels

after a recommendation on here I found I could stomach the torq gels, most other things come up and I gargle vomit for a mile or two

Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 16:41

you could dilute lucozade or similar, 50:50 with water? 2 birds one stone?

Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 16:47

I've got LOADS of beet-it shots, but they are not for on the run, have only tried one once (they take about 2 or 3 hours to 'kick in' but then apparently improve endurance)

or the multipower drinks are evil awesome
