2.4 from me this morning. Felt fast but wasn't Sad quite wet underfoot because of the melting frost, and very muddy in places but gloriously sunny.

791 is the new total (assume Mitch made a mistake on the last total?)

Zombie, have you added your miles yet?

Mitchy1nge · 24/11/2014 10:56

oh yeah looks like quite a big mistake Blush

I felt like I was running normally with my Slow Joggers right behind me but the first mile was sub 10 which is not their pace and I had to wait at the top of the hill feeling like I'd been reallllllllly horrible

BlueChampagne · 24/11/2014 12:32

Gave blood last week so no big run. Adding 8.3 for the week to make 799.3. Who will take us over 800?

actiongirl1978 · 24/11/2014 13:21

Me!

I can add 4.6miles from yesterday, gloriously around one of my favourite city centres in the dark, I loved it. Also I felt like I could do it all again which is good news for my long run I am planning tomorrow.

Do you all do your long runs slowly?

New total is

803.9

Mitchy1nge · 24/11/2014 13:27

I do all my runs slowly!

Recently did ten miles in a 10:00 pace which was fast for me over that distance and makes me want to start pushing my pace a bit once I'm over the psychological hurdle of showing up for the half marathon on Saturday

Suzannewithaplan · 24/11/2014 13:38

I run slowly because my various niggles and injuries speak to me more loudly if I pick up speed and I don't want to upset them too much.

Although I've been a fitness fanatic all my adult life I was an absolute non runner until just a couple of years ago.
I am frankly astounded that I can run a whole 5 miles without stopping, it makes me feel as if I've borrowed someone else's legs.
If I could run fast I think it'd feel as if I'd taken possession of someone else's entire body:o

MirandaWest · 24/11/2014 13:41

A little 1.62 miles from me Blush but a) better than nothing and b) was trying a bit of my own version of intervals which got me going a little faster. When I have more time I must try going further (ie more than 5k)

805.52

cinnamongreyhound · 24/11/2014 16:28

I don't consciously change my pace but guessing my body does Wink

I am getting slighty annoyed now that every time I mention running or I am at parkrun everyone asks when I'm going to stop Angry my regular running buddies are fab and support me but everyone else says it as if they're saying 'it's about time you stopped' instead of when are you going to stop iyswim.

Don't think I added my miles, so new total is... 818.62?

Thanks for all your kind words :)

zombiesheep · 24/11/2014 17:41

818.62

ThursdayLast · 24/11/2014 17:45

I can't really control my pace Blush at least alone.
I just run how I run, unless I'm keeping someone slower than me company.
My vague sort of average is 9 minute miles, apart from at parkrun when I kill myself

ThursdayLast · 24/11/2014 17:47

However I'm currently doing 0 minute miles as the whole Thursday house is full of cold.
Which means I need more sleep but DS sleeps less
So frankly, I just can't be arsed to go out

EdithDickie · 24/11/2014 18:20

Well done zombie*, so awesome! Grin

Cinnamon that sounds annoying...

Nothing from me today. Was supposed to run at lunchtime but managed to crash my car on the way to work by losing it on ice so spent lunchtime on the phone to insurers instead Sad. And it was such a beautiful day today! Anyway, at least I was going slowly and no other vehicles involved so apart from a new headlight and number plate no damage was done.

Planning to run tomorrow though - saying that here so I feel accountable!

karatekimmi · 24/11/2014 18:28

Mee too! I'm sat on the sofa eating crap under a duvet. Nothing too bad, just a sniffle really but enough to keep me in!! I have a couple of races at the weekend, parkrun, the a 10k pudding run, so I need to be well for then. Oh and the running clubs Xmas party is that night!!

karatekimmi · 24/11/2014 18:29

Running speed "+ infinity " faster than fast!!

actiongirl1978 · 24/11/2014 18:36

Oh Thursday, I hate it when everyone is ill and you are housebound without exercising. Yuck. You have my sympathies.

I have tried changing my pace - so I have a normal pace, but when I knew I wanted to do a steady 11k last week I started running and then slowed by half. But if I know I am heading for a 6 or 7km then I run at my normal pace which is about 5.30mins per km. I haven't done a 5k in ages, I wonder how much faster I could be on a flat 5k route?

I just wondered if anyone else was in favour of this 'long slow run' I keep reading about? I want to do 12 or 13km tomorrow (assuming my stomach behaves... that's a whole other thread about 'toilet issues' I think!) and in order to get the distance under my belt without giving up or stopping - because in my head stopping is cheating; then I have to go slowly to conserve energy.

I want to get to 15km before Xmas on a weekly long run, but I know if I go at normal pace I will be wrecked. Presumably though once I get used to the long distances, I can start to speed up to my normal pace before I start racing in the new year and in time for my marathon. Hmm. Its all guesswork really!

Cinnamon - I reckon you should stop when you want to and not before!

ThursdayLast · 24/11/2014 18:39

Woah kimmi! Is that a glitch or something? I hope you feel better too soon.

Rubbish news about your car edith though very glad to hear you didn't cause a crime spree or injure yourself Wink

Nod and smile cinnamon, nod and smile...

ThursdayLast · 24/11/2014 18:43

X-post with you there actiongirl many thanks!

I'm afraid I can't offer much advice as I've always just been a go-with-it kind of girl. Sometimes I want to push myself with distance, other times with speed...

Oh yeah, I ordered some running gloves today, because a race I'm doing next month requires them. They are mandatory Confused.
I'm gonna get so hot!

Mitchy1nge · 24/11/2014 18:44

action I think it's that you can either increase the pace or the distance, but not both simultaneously, or you raise the risk of injury before your body gets used to the demands

and actually even if all your runs are nice easy aerobic miles your pace picks up anyway by itself eventually

actiongirl1978 · 24/11/2014 21:49

Thursday, I tend to wear my running gloves all year apart from when it's really hot. Happy in a vest and sports bra but with gloves, stops my hands getting dry, I feel more efficient with them. If i do get too hot I stick them down the bag of my running tights, I forget about the weird bulge after a while.

And thanks for the pace info, I shall bear it in mind tomorrow!

Mitchy, how is that personal training going?

karatekimmi · 24/11/2014 21:50

Despite my infinite speed I'm all in favour of long slow runs - If I can't maintain a monologue about my life then it's too fast Grin my poor running partner!!

thursday I'm guessing the glitch is due to the fact I ran -0 miles!! Less far then nothing it did tickle me, but I am a maths geek!!

TheBigBumTheory · 24/11/2014 22:12

2.5 from me, fast hill sprints mainly.

Mitchy1nge · 25/11/2014 09:53

Hi action good luck with your long run! PT is not what I imagined at all, it's more like physio with her stretching me and pointing out areas of weakness and some painful massages. Is still money well spent (I have to feel that way, locked into 3 month contract!) but after the half we will go out for some 5k runs together and see if I can use my heels more, and strengthen the rest of me so my calves aren't doing more than their share of work

emummy · 25/11/2014 09:59

Lovely cold sunny morning, nice brisk 2.5 with fartlek, so with TheBigBumTHeory's that's 823.62 I think.
I like long slow runs, usually start about 1 min/km slower than usual, often find myself speeding up a bit but not to 10k pace. I think you just do what feels comfortable, and the speed over the shorter distances will improve, especially if you do speed work as well. I am very good at the slow part of the long slow run!

MirandaWest · 25/11/2014 11:11

I did 3k or 1.87 miles in the cold this morning. Was wearing full on winter stuff for me - running tights and warm vest thing and long sleeved top. And gloves Grin

Total 825.49
