Sorry to hear of your plight Emummy, I've had various lower back issues but find that regular yoga keeps them at bay. I feel it's a kind of self administered physiotherapy, might be worth considering for you?
Although in the short term a visit to an actual physio might help? ?

HalleLouja · 18/11/2014 10:49

Feet you are awesome.

BlueChampagne · 18/11/2014 13:12

Mitchy I was advised to taper for my first HM in the summer by two more experienced runners, so yes, people are still doing it. It was one of my best ever runs too - I felt so strong, and 7.5 miles felt so easy after 13 the week before!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/11/2014 13:32

Well done feetheart! I think when I've done single mile efforts I've managed a couple of sub 8min miles but not string together and my usually pace before pregnancy was 9-9.15's :)

And yes Mitchy1inge, people do still taper. All the more serious runners I know do, I'm rubbish and usually leave training too late so need to do my longest run the week before Wink

Oi fuck off with your spam

right tapering it is then, trainer thinks is good plan (but she thinks should not be running until all the wear and tear and overuse problems are addressed, most of which I assumed were age related but whatever) will still do 10+ one on Friday but maybe just 5k every other day and hardly anything next week?

Mitchy1nge · 18/11/2014 14:17

apart from sometimes me how many smokers will you find on a running thread anyway?

actiongirl1978 · 18/11/2014 14:20

Emummy sorry to hear about your back, I hope you feel better soon, its awful when you cant run, let alone get through the day doing all the things you need to do.

I am logging just over two miles of easy run and intervals (sprinting) and a handful of hill sprints, so although I wasn't out for long, everything hurts from the effort!

actiongirl1978 · 18/11/2014 14:22

So if I round up from Miranda's total to include my 'a bit' part, I make it 599

actiongirl1978 · 18/11/2014 14:22

Grin Mitchy, you tell 'em!

EdithDickie · 18/11/2014 16:57

Ouch emummy, hope that you feel better soon.

4.2 miles today. Autumnal sunshine, crisp leaves etc. All rather lovely!

I am SO impressed with your speeds by the way! Anything under 11 minutes per mile and I am patting myself on the back!

EdithDickie · 18/11/2014 16:58

603.2 I think

TheBigBumTheory · 18/11/2014 20:16

3.1 from me tonight, I am finding that It is getting easier every time.

606.3

cinnamongreyhound · 18/11/2014 21:06

No running from me until tomorrow, I justs wanted to say eeeeekkkkk, I've been asked to lead a run with the canicross group ShockShockShock

Go, go, go Cinnamon and doggy, you will both be great :)

TheBigBumTheory - feels good doesn't it :)

emummy - hope things have eased off. As usual I will suggest either sports physio or osteopath. Both are worth their weight in gold.

Edith - I have been running for about 6 years and most of that has been at around 11-11:30. Started to gradually get a bit quicker last year but joining a running club this summer has really pushed me to another level. Most of the group I run with are probably faster than me but I'm a stubborn s*d and don't want to be left behind :)
I'm also now curious to see how fast I can go without feeling like I'm going to die like last night

EdithDickie · 19/11/2014 03:08

Ah that's interesting feetheart, I am only 6 months in so still a newby really. I will keep plugging away and maybe one day I will be brave enough to join a running club.

ThursdayLast · 19/11/2014 09:06

cinnamon you'll be fab! Do they do maternity dog harnesses? Wink

Sorry about your back emummy. I have lower back problems too, nothing serious just life. I go to a weekly Pilates class that really helps, and has taught me a lot if stretches too.

feet well done you! I live that feeling when you've pushed yourself!

edith slow snd steady wins the race with fitness. You'll get there!

Mitchy1nge · 19/11/2014 09:23

would LOVE to try group cani-x (spaniel is amazing with all other dogs but can take violent exception to strangers so we tend to run away from where the general public might be)

does anyone here have any experience of putting on a race anywhere, what's involved? at dinner with some laid back landowners last night the suggestion of some kind of muddy obstacle assault course type event came up - anyone know how I can find out more about organising it?

BlueChampagne · 19/11/2014 12:56

Mitchy you could try contacting local charities and see if they can put you in touch with organisers? Or ask in your local running shop?

Mitchy1nge · 19/11/2014 14:05

good idea, in fact will ask running club - they already have UKA insurance etc and know what's involved, they might want to do it

we have a brilliant ready made 10k route

anyway 3.1 with my latest new beginner group (I feel like Forest Gump out for a run with more and more people joining me Grin) sooo 609.4? I think

MarathonMummy1 · 19/11/2014 16:18

Hi everyone, i'm new to this thread.

I've just started training for the London Marathon 2015, 3 months post partum. Its going very slowly, I get some joint pain from time to time, i wonder if anyone else has had the same thing? Also any tips for running post birth? Thanks!

karatekimmi · 19/11/2014 16:21

I'm helping to organise a race next year as someone organises a half marathon for school, so I'm helping to gain experience on how to put a run together!! When I find anything out ill let you know!!

I'm sure you do a fab job leading a doggy run cinamom Wink

zombiesheep · 19/11/2014 17:09

Hello everyone I am back and I need your help! :o

Haven't run for a week because I finally decided to let my right shin rest. I've had a bit of lower leg trouble for the past few weeks due to (I think) old shoes. My new shoes are lovely and running in them doesn't hurt my shin, it's just after. Pretty sure it's shin splints.

Anyway 1.5 weeks ago I ran 9 miles no problem even with my shin. I then joined a running club which I love (last Wednesday so a week ago) tonight I am going running club again after resting for a whole week.

Well I have my first ever half marathon on Sunday. Do you all think I'll be okay? I can run 9 miles comfortably and I know I am fit enough for it but I'm getting anxious. Plus no earphones are allowed and the thought of it is making me feel a bit sick. I'll update when I'm back from running club.

Thanks for any advice meanwhile!

Suzannewithaplan · 19/11/2014 17:23

I have 5.1 miles (uphill on the treadmill) to add bringing it to 614.5
