Open for any runners, or any runners looking to get their 'mojo' back.

I have a 10k on Sunday which I am feeling less than prepared for, and the stomach bug is just adding to that. I have a feeling I will be the slowest runner!

Well done BigglesFliesUndone, 1hr 10 is very respectable for your first 10k and who cares how old you are! We have a 74 year old at parkrun who has a faster PB than me and beats me most weeks Shock

Fab time BlueChampagne especially after 7 miles!! My 5k pb is 25:58 so close to 8:30's but that nearly killed me!!

karatekimmi · 06/10/2014 20:14

Irian just do it, you'll be fine. No good comes of overthinking!!

standingonlego · 06/10/2014 20:29

Irian just hit submit!!!! You will be fine, with karate on this stop over-analysing and just go for it. We will all be here to egg you on :)

MirandaWest · 06/10/2014 21:17

Went out with my boyfriend and did my first 5k in ages. Took me 30 min 33 seconds so not too bad. Going to do some more of them this week Smile

karatekimmi · 07/10/2014 06:48

Well done miranda

I guess I did a couple of miles, but ran past chaos where a dog had just attacked a baby. The baby was very very fortunate and only had a puncture wound on his back which wasn't bleeding. The mum was hysterical and they were at next door so I took over always been bossy!! and spoke to the emergency services!! One of the men from the running club stayed with me so we had a bit of a run back and did one hill rep does it count as a rep if you don't repeat it?

I have a sports massage booked for today and I'm hoping it's not too painful!!

karatekimmi · 07/10/2014 06:49

130.21

TessTackle · 07/10/2014 10:02

Go for it Irian
Well done Miranda

Bloody well done kimmi sometimes you need someone to take charge when something has happened to your baby! I know I wouldn't have been so calm.

A freezing 4.42 this morning, some twat in clumpy airforce tried to get all macho and overtake me aty steady pace, I lapped him
Twice Grin

134.63

emummy · 07/10/2014 10:21

3.1 from me today and a PB by a whole 8 secs, very proud! And it even stopped raining. Was inspired by a new running book, hope I can keep it up and not get last over the winter.
Wow, karatekimmi what drama! Well done for helping.
So total 137.73

IrianofWay · 07/10/2014 10:22

Done!

Got an email when I signed up with race details including the words:

"After the long ascent of the B3136(Bath Road)," .... Yeah! Great! Thanks. Now you tell me.....

Grin
emummy · 07/10/2014 11:19

Well done Irian, don't worry about any wee hills, you can do it!

IrianofWay · 07/10/2014 15:47

It's not the wee hills that bother me emummy, it's the fuck off great big bastard ones Grin

BigglesFliesUndone · 07/10/2014 15:54

Best thing about being a runner in East Anglia Grin

EdithDickie · 07/10/2014 17:14

Well done kimmi, I know I would have been very grateful for you if that had happened to dd.

Haha good luck with the hill Irian!

I did 6.07 miles this afternoon - my longest ever run. Feeling pretty damn awesome right now! Grin

EdithDickie · 07/10/2014 17:15

143.8

ThursdayLast · 07/10/2014 19:28

Impromptu 5k with dog this evening take us to 147

cinnamongreyhound · 07/10/2014 21:06

Well done EdithDickie!

4 from me, no cyclists today so dogs off the lead and we didn't have to stop for them too much although I didn't make it to the top of the hill we hate without walking :(

151

MirandaWest · 08/10/2014 09:55

Did 5k in under 30 min Smile (was 29 min 53 but every second counts Grin).

So another 3.1 taking us to 158.2

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 08/10/2014 10:42

3.1 from me yesterday takes us to 161.3.

Less than three weeks to go now til Great South Run. Shock

feetheart · 08/10/2014 13:38

Well done Miranda, every single second does indeed count :)

Cinnamon - sorry you didn't make it to the top of the horrible hill but you are carrying a bun as well :)

Well done on PB emummy. Just stay on here, we'll keep you running. What was the book by the way?

An old gimmer question - does anyone run in varifocals? I now need them although I could put up with my current limited short and long vision (life is indeed a blur!). Need to make a decision but don't want to increase my lack of coordination by an inability to see pot-holes, tree roots, stones, etc whilst running. Need to know if it can work so would appreciate any thoughts - please go and ask the older more mature runners that you know.

4.8 to add from Monday's club run (the first time I have ever run on 3 consecutive days and I didn't feel too bad Shock)

166.1

Mitchy1nge · 08/10/2014 13:54

they tried to give me varifocals feetheart, I am avoiding the optician as long as I can but can't see a fucking thing so it's as well I try to stay off roads

think am more or less 'back' after various of my mental and physical infirmities so am adding 9.85 miles from Monday - today to the pot to make 175.95

the temptation to run faster and further than usual is surprisingly strong but after so many failures of the past year I really really really just want to show up for my next half marathon at the end of November so am trying to be sensible

ThursdayLast · 08/10/2014 14:23

Excellent to have you back mitchy

IrianofWay · 08/10/2014 15:10

Just discovered that my 10k is being sponsored by a division of the company I work for and there are 7 runners from here taking part. So have just acquired 7 team mates Grin and a shirt with a brand logo on it Hmm .....

IrianofWay · 08/10/2014 15:44

And DD's best mate's mum too Grin

emummy · 08/10/2014 17:24

Great Irian that might help with the training to have some fellow sufferers!
Welcome back mitchy hope all stays well this time.
feetheart book is The Art of Running Faster by Julian Goater. Has some good advice, tho can't see me running twice a day anytime soon! Am working my way through it, trying to get some ideas to build on.

Mitchy1nge · 08/10/2014 17:26

cheers :)

I got that book for Christmas, it didn't help my calf strain heal but it is fascinating and I think I still draw upon it quite a bit, running little and often, or twice a day etc
