New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

So I didn't do last week as felt poorly. This week high wind and rain forecast. What to do?! Maybe I should invest in something waterproof... Or do you just go for it in normal gear?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/01/2015 21:19

All the best for tomorrow Blathers and I am very envious of feet

fruit I have a selection of running jackets from a very expensive one DH bought me when we ran a half marathon together in January a few years ago so he could justify buying one for himself to a 6 quid thin fluorescent yellow one from LIDL. My latest is purple, and was a tenner from Sports Direct. TBH we've usually been really lucky with the weather, and you are out in it for less than an hour anyway [brave face]

Oh an I just wear normal gear on my legs. I only have waterproof trousers for cycling.

And a hat/baseball cap to keep the rain off my face.

GO BLATHERS!!!

Right, my aim is to get to 50 before my birthday in July. So excluding wedding day and one volunteer day I've already got lined up - I've got three days lee way.
Two of those should really be volunteering. Which gives one day for genuine illness or injury.

Do not let me slack off friends!

KristinaM · 09/01/2015 22:27

Thursday - if you volunteer as a tail runner, it still counts as a run towards your 50 . You need to save your spare weeks in case you get ill and can't run

Or pesky wedding planning stuff interferes with the inportant things in life

Re wet weather gear - I just wear normal stuff plus a fleece hat ( seems to repel the rain better than a ball cap ) and a rain jacket which sounds suspiciously like 010203s hi vis £6 one from lidl. It's very thin so I can tie it round my waist when the rain stops < very glamorous here >

KristinaM · 09/01/2015 22:29

I realise you can't postpone your birthday, but I'm sure everyone would understand if you rearranged the wedding Wink

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/01/2015 22:42

Grin No slacking Thursday Grin

I love tail running. I have met some really nice people when I have tail run/walked. Except for the time I walked with two women who decided they would stop after a lap and a half (we are a two and a half lap course), so I had to sprint for half a lap to catch up with the next nearest folk Grin

Kristina I have been known to screw up my jacket and stuff it down one leg on long runs Smile

I would happily tail run but we have a regular who does that. He's only missed two runs the whole time Lanhydrock has been going- I think he's due his 50 shirt this month sometime!

I think a hat or a buff of some kind is good for wet weather - I tend not to bother with too much kit for parkrun. I always think that it's only 5k, even if it's awful it won't last too long!

Yes Kristina. I really should have checked the dates more thoroughly. Or chose a Friday Grin

KristinaM · 09/01/2015 22:59

Oooh, we are not allowed to only do certain volunteer roles . Or rather We are encouraged to try different roles .

Though I confess to avoiding number checker and timekeeper as I'm too worried about getting it wrong. But I'm ok with everything else

KristinaM · 09/01/2015 23:01

Grin at 010203

I am so fat that there is no room at my waistband

standingonlego · 09/01/2015 23:07

Have a fabulous run tomorrow blathers we will all be thinking of you and cheering you on from our various corners of parkrun world Grin

Sorry I cannot be there in person, gutted to be missing the Cake

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/01/2015 23:33

I have just worked out that 100 parkruns is half a million metres (I thinkSmile ). Fantastic achievement BlathersGrin

HalleLouja · 10/01/2015 06:41

It sounds really windy out there.

HalleLouja · 10/01/2015 06:42

Go blathers. It's one of my running club members 50th today.

KristinaM · 10/01/2015 07:26

Have a great run everyone, especially blathers .

Shocking weather of course, in true parkrun tradition . I don't even get to run today as I have to take one of the kids to a sports competition . But I'll keep my fingers crossed you don't get blown away

karatekimmi · 10/01/2015 07:36

Good luck blathers, enjoy!!

I'm in my PJ's watching Facebook closely to see if the route is clear as we get a lot of debris on the course when it's windy. I hope it's not cancelled as today will be #49 for me.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/01/2015 09:07

I am a bit miffed this morning. I have a course starting at 10:30 an hour from home, so can't go to my local parkrun. After a chat with feet last week, I researched parkruns near the course venue and even contacted the college to find out if they had showers so I could fit in a pre-course parkrun. It looked that it might all work, although I'd have to get up super-early (parkrun is further away than the course). All good.

Then a colleague (who doesn't drive) asked me for a lift, so I put away thoughts of parkrun this morning, on the basis that even I thought I was showing signs of a mild obsession Grin.

He has just texted to say he is stuck in the middle of nowhere, and his train is cancelled so he won't be coming after all. I could have been parkrunning at this very moment!

Oh that is annoying OhOne

Eagerly awaiting Blathers race report!

Was yours on kimmi?

I did 28.09 which I'm quite pleased with as I was deliberately taking it easy Smile. It's our anniversary next week yay!

standingonlego · 10/01/2015 13:01

I was not at parkrun today (still being hockey taxi) but there was record attendance at my home run Shock There was also biblical level rain and over 130 non-scanning disintegrated barcode as a result. I am gutted I missed it Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/01/2015 13:25

Well done Thursday

That sounds AMAZING lego Shock

Did anyone hear Paul S-H on the radio this morning? I caught it driving to my course, so that cheered me up a bit Smile

That's very annoying and selfish OhOneOhTwoOhThree!!!!!

An eventful parkrun morning for me! Panicked conversations on our rd fb chat over the evening and this morning meant we getting up at 7.30 to go and check it out. No large branches down and country park had opened toilets so assumed they didn't plan to shut the park. Eventually got home and back 30sec after start but ran 31:52 so ok. At the end we had a complaint from a runner that the park should have closed at gusts were over 30mph Confused, if you're worried don't go out and run surely?!?!? It absolutely poured down as I started the second lap and we had won't an who then complained we hadn't put up the gazebo we bought, REALLY?!? With winds up to 30mph? I'm forever shocked by people. Had a junior handing out tokens who somehow got confused so rd (who isn't confident with computer side of things) ended up back at mine to sort things as the other rd's who were there running were soaked and wanted to go home. We think all is sorted and results are out so I'm relaxing at home and still haven't showered Shock

Hope blatherskite had a good run and didn't get as wet as we did!

HalleLouja · 10/01/2015 14:16

The weather fairies were on our side. Well not the wind - that decided to blow but the rain stopped whilst we were running. There were over 300 people at SA. Which must be one of their higher attendances.
