New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Hope DH is a bit better cinnamon

Looks like it might be a damp one tomorrow Smile

Because I have nothing better to do with my time I have worked out that after tomorrow I will have done 37 parkruns this year = 185 KM run when I could have stayed in bed on a Saturday morning Smile

And as I have 30-odd parkruns to go until I get my 100 shirt I guess it will be sometime towards the end of next year by the looks of it - I have either run or volunteered every possible week this year, the only ones I have missed have been because of other unavoidable commitments.

I'm hoping to do a double on NYD, we have one at 9:30 and another at 11:00. That will make up for not doing Christmas Day

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 27/12/2014 08:03

Ah, sweet sweet parkrun where none of my family will be Grin

Gonna test out my present

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/12/2014 10:09

The sun came out for ours today, despite a cold and grey start. We looked a bit thinner on the ground than usual too.

DS1 came this morning and had finished by the time I came round for my final half lap. That meant I could throw some cash at him and he had a nice hot coffee waiting for me at the end Grin

My run yesterday was put off due to Panto oh no it wasn't. So did SA today. It was windy and cold. I didn't take it too hard as have a 10 mile race tomorrow. Plus have been ill this week.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 13:01

It poured all night here and stopped by about 7 then started again at 10.30 so we were very lucky. Still a chilly one but my new trail shoes worked well and I was a minute quicker than last week!

Knackerelli · 27/12/2014 15:37

No way HalleLouja I was at SA! It was very windy but fine once I got going. Good luck tomorrow Xmas Smile

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 27/12/2014 17:23

We were made to run our course backwards Shock
Which meant an uphill start and finish.
Hopefully it was just a 'fun festive' thing!

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 27/12/2014 17:23

Because it wasn't fun. At all. Better the devil you know.

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 18:09

Are we still meeting at wimpole next Saturday OhOneOhTwoOhThree and was it feetheart?

MelanieCheeks · 27/12/2014 18:14

Most local ones were cancelled due to icy conditions. So I wrote up a blog entry on my home one instead.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/12/2014 18:16

Definitely cinnamon. There may be a couple of us (and doggy friends) coming from our way. And DS1 reckons he will be up and ready, after managing to both accompany me and PB today I will believe it when I see it

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/12/2014 18:19

He (DS1) wasn't even trying and took over 15 seconds off Hmm. I on the other hand was feeling a bit wheezy and felt like I worked hard for yet another 30+ finish. Next year I will get back under 30 mins

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/12/2014 18:29

Great blog Melanie Smile

Sounds fun Thursday - I am trying to work out if you ran the course in reverse, or ran backwards Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 27/12/2014 18:36

We thought about that for April fools but it would change the distance for ours I think and we didn't think about it in enough time to figure it out!

feetheart · 28/12/2014 17:03

Yes, Cinnamon DS and I definitely up for some tourism on Saturday. No dogs but will be in pursuit of a small boy as usual :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 28/12/2014 20:02

Oooh who else can we round up for Wimpole? Looks like we will be:

cinnamon + doggy
feet + small boy
me + large boy
my parkrun friend + doggy (don't think she is a MNer - we will need to be vague about how we met Grin)

Missed christmas day as expected but managed to find seemingly the only un-cancelled parkrun near my Mum's this weekend so got a snowy run in at least. Will go back and re-do Nostell Priory in better weather one day as it was very pretty and a nice course.

MelanieCheeks · 29/12/2014 14:20

Lovely present, Thursday!

We are due to have a New Years Day run, but I shall be watching the weather forecast.

Running resolutions for 2015?

I hope to
a) earn my 100 Tshirt
b) run all 19 Norn Irn courses (have done 10 so far)
c) complete my training as a guide for visually impaired runners.

feetheart · 29/12/2014 16:37

Weather looks OK here for a NYD parkrun but not sure we will make both - the 10:30 one is closer and flatter and has an excellent cafe so we are aiming for that Xmas Smile

Running resolutions for 2015:

  • Get under 26mins for 5k
  • Get under 60mins for 10k
  • Get our own parkrun up and running
(the last one might make the first one difficult Xmas Hmm)
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/12/2014 16:47

Those are good resolutions Melanie and feet.

I also hope to earn my 100 shirt, and to get back under 30 mins, IT band permitting. And to run at feet's inaugural parkrun, and visit a few more. I have been filling in the calendar with all this term's fixtures and activities and plotting some tourism Smile

And to return the finish token I found in our spare room yesterday. It is no 86, so pretty sure it wasn't me Grin

I have none, I don't want to put too many expectations on myself! Still running around 10min miles, and getting in 12 miles a week is good enough for now but hope to be at most parkruns running or volunteering. I am on 59 at the moment so with impending child I think 100 in 2015 is unlikely! Really actually starting to dread when I can't run Xmas Sad

I love the idea of being a visually impaired running guide, what a wonderful thing to do!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/12/2014 22:05

One of my most memorable races from when I lived in the US is this one, where able bodied and disabled runners run together. I was just thinking about it the other day.

OP posts:
feetheart · 30/12/2014 07:42

I would love to do guided running too and have a plan or two for our parkrun.
Watching visually-impaired relays run at the paralympics was amazing - they got 80,000 people to be completely silent for most of the race so the athletes could hear the instructions at the changeovers but once the final change happened the place erupted. We were there for some of the heats so got to experience it 3 times I think - an awesome, unforgettable experience :)
I'm not sure how many totally accessible parkrun course there are, sadly our course won't be wheelchair accessible.

Blatherskite · 30/12/2014 09:54

I'll be really disappointed if I don't make it to 100 parkruns this year! Wink

I'd love a sub 25 minute 5k this year, a sub 50 minute 10k and a 1:55 half marathon. I want to do a few longer runs too. Not thinking marathon yet but heading towards 20 miles. I want to do more parkrun tourism - feet's course and hopefully Loughborough inaugurals included and maybe a bit of running abroad. I'm starting with Copenhagen parkrun in January and will see where we go from there.

I narrowly missed out on parkrunning with a really inspirational blind runner, Simon Wheatcroft, at the weekend. It was just too dangerous for him in the snow in the end. Hopefully, I'll get another chance later in the year and can get some tips as we have an assisted runner come to MK occasionally.
