New thread for park runners old and new. Who's running at home and away this weekend? Who's volunteering?

Well done feetheart and ds :)

We had quite a few visitors. Apparently wimpole hall is the place to go if you're running with a dog. Might give it a try one day!

I had a chatty one today and my first in my 50 t-shirt Grin

ThursdayLast · 04/10/2014 10:56

Yay for 50 t-shirt, though I wonder how long it will fit cinnamon?

EauRouge · 04/10/2014 11:15

First parkrun for about 6 months, had a nice, leisurely chat/run with fishandjam. my knee held out and we came in at 37.35. Not a PB but my knee didn't hold me up so pretty pleased Smile

standingonlego · 04/10/2014 13:32

I love this thread on a Saturday and hearing all the news. I am missing parkrun Envy, hockey is ace but not quite the same Smile.

And I want a cape...

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2014 15:25

Woohoo! Absolutely smashed it, all time PB of 25:44, 7th lady home, 1st in my age category and a % age grading over 66.66%.

To say I is chuffed would be an understatement.

I will post photos of me plus dog-in-a-cape when I get my hands on this fabled red shirt!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/10/2014 16:24

Fantastic MelanieCheeks!!

Well done everyone else who ran.

I hope for a little while yet but I was actually thinking today I have two really baggy tops that will be my back up when it doesn't ThursdayLast Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 04/10/2014 16:25

Love this video, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2014 16:33

wipes tears from eyes

Gawd, isn't it amazing how something so simple can affect us all so so deeply?

cinnamongreyhound · 04/10/2014 16:37

It is! I said to dh I've never thought before really while I'm running here 50,000 other people across the country are doing the same even though I know all you guys are too :)

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2014 16:50

Awwww!

feetheart · 04/10/2014 17:35

Fantastic Melanie, well done :)

Very, very chuffed 8 year old in our house today and a rather proud mum. DS did it in 29:35 - a whole 1:26 off his PB from two weeks ago (the cloak obviously helped :)) and I came in at 29.36 - beaten in the sprint finish again but with 43secs off my parkrun PB and only my second ever 5k under 30mins :o

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2014 17:43

Yay for cloaks!

I'm the same feetheart, someone always dashes past me in the last 500m!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/10/2014 18:24

I have something in my eye too Smile

Well done runners big and small. Some brilliant times this week. I shall wear a cloak next time I run to see if it helps Grin. Melanie you are such an inspiration, you had your stress fracture about the time of my suspected one and have made such a brilliant comeback.

Right, I want to do some tourism between now and the end of the year. Anyone want to set a date for Huntingdon, Wimpole (cinnamon it's on my to-do list as well - one of our regulars lives between here and Wimpole so goes to both and has said it's a good one) and St Albans?

And if any Norfolk parkrunners are lurking I am planning to do one of the Norwich ones next week, just haven't worked out which one it will be (I am staying quite near Blickling, but have been there before so am thinking Catton, Norwich or Mulwhatsit Smile)

cinnamongreyhound · 04/10/2014 19:07

I've done mulbarton it's almost 3 3/4 laps round the common. Never done norwich. Not sure if I'm running at all next week as we may be going to legoland, I'll let you know! Definitely put meeting at wimpole one week. Not 18th or 25th as I'm volunteering at home.

ThursdayLast · 04/10/2014 20:43

melanie well done!

ThursdayLast · 04/10/2014 20:44

And feetheart too!
What a good day we've all had.

MelanieCheeks · 04/10/2014 21:09

Tourism calendar:

I'm planningto do Crane Park Feltham on 1 November (but could be persuaded to Bushy park...)

And will be in Perth on 8 November.

LaughingM · 04/10/2014 21:46

Hi parkrunners! I've just run my first full 5k, having started c25k all the way back in April! So I'm tempted to attempt a parkrun soon. The video cinnamon posted is inspiring me too. If I do my most local parkrun I will most definitely last - it will take me about 40 minutes and the slowest person in the last few have been 36 mins Confused but I think I might have to swallow my pride and accept that!

Are there any London parkrunners here? I'll be doing either Ally Pally, Hampstead or Finsbury Park.

jchocchip · 04/10/2014 22:07

love the warm and fuzzy video Cinnamon (think I have something in my eye)

Laughing don't worry - parkrunners are lovely, our parkrun has a tail runner so the last one is never the last, IYSWIM. I was nearly last today, just one walker and the tailrunner behind me, but I still love parkrun even so, and you know that you have to start somewhere, and the first is always the hardest, after that you can aim to chip away at your pb!

I'm Ooop North, so miles away...

My ds has started to exercise. He is very overweight and depressed. But he has decided to walk every day and has been out Thursday and Friday, then today he got up early and said he was coming to parkrun. He walked 2 laps with his gran (my mil usually does two laps, she is working up to doing 2 1/2) and I was so proud of him.

ThursdayLast · 04/10/2014 22:11

Oh how lovely jchoc, and well well well done to minij it's those first steps that are the most difficult for everyone. One day he'll be delighted he took them this week Smile

And laughing don't worry at all. I ditto everything jchoc says about tail runners and friendly parkrunners. I am miles away too sadly, far in the other direction, but Ally Pally sounds fun

LaughingM · 04/10/2014 22:21

Thanks jchoc and Thursday. It's great that they have tail runners, that should spur me on the last bit when everyone else has crossed the finish line! And everyone has to start somewhere Smile.

Well done to your DS jchoc, that's fantastic. And lovely that he was able to go with his gran!

feetheart · 05/10/2014 07:56

Feeling lots of warm, fuzzy parkrun vibes this morning whilst ignoring the 10k I will be running in 3hrs time :)

Well done to your DS ichocchip - another one for the parkrun family :)
And laughing - definitely have a go, just be aware that it is very addictive :)

DS and I are going to the Panshanger inaugural one next Saturday as it's reasonably close, we fancy trying out another one and I want to make a few contacts pick their brains as we start thinking about starting one here

MelanieCheeks · 05/10/2014 11:45

Mini in her red cape.

ThursdayLast · 05/10/2014 12:37

I LOVE IT

MelanieCheeks · 05/10/2014 15:41

The cape itself is actually from Guide Dogs for the Blind, which we got in return for a donation. It says "I'm a hero" on the front - I just reversed it and added paint Wink

But I love Mini's expression.....does my bum look big in this?
