Ack, I just lost a long post in which I was very witty Grin.

I just did W7R1 Smile, which was okay. I tried to go a little bit faster, but I was only running at ~7.5km/hour. Is it true that speed will come later?

Cru, let us know how you get on with your running jacket. I'm starting to fancy a long sleeved running top.

Has anyone seen Edwinia around? I hoped that she'd have popped in to let us know how she's getting on.

WastingMyYoungYears · 02/09/2014 20:00

Oh, I just wanted to say to those with aches and pains, listen to them Grin! Rest / check that your trainers are okay / go to see your GP / go to see a physio. It's better to sort out any issues than to aggravate them.

Good luck to everyone Smile - it's really exciting to see yourself make progress, and you very much will if you stick at it.

Iggi999 · 02/09/2014 20:57

Will probably jinx myself but ... I really expected to have lots of pains, have had back and knee problems when I exercised in the past, but have been fine so far with this - sore or tingly feet at the end of the run but that's it. I do stretches at the end of the warm up walk and again on the other side. Did my first 28 min run tonight, for me the second half is always easier than the first.

Iggi999 · 02/09/2014 20:58

oh, and some core strength exercises a physio gave me on the day "off". Had a lousy day at work today and the run has certainly relieved some of my stress Smile

ScienceRocks · 02/09/2014 21:20

Five, I run with my dog off the lead too (apart from when I cross busy roads) Smile

ScienceRocks · 02/09/2014 21:24

Wasting, I am dithering between resting and trying to power through. Part of me knows it is the old SPD flaring, but i know I need to strengthen that part of me and the pain - so far - has gone by the next day. I'm not sure I would run if I was still in pain from the last run.

ifancyagreencard · 02/09/2014 21:31

W1R1 just done under the cover of darkness Grin. Not a pretty sight!! Feeling chuffed, though. Let's see what Thursday brings!

ScienceRocks · 02/09/2014 21:44

Well done green card!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 02/09/2014 21:54

Mine is loving it and he is quite a good pacemaker as doesn't go too fast Grin

LaughingM · 02/09/2014 22:04

Well done greencard, starting is the hardest!

I changed my mind as I went out the door and did w6r1 instead and it was great Grin. Really looking forward to getting back into the swing of things again now!

CruCru · 03/09/2014 03:56

Well done greencard! Do you now feel awesome?

OP posts:
WastingMyYoungYears · 03/09/2014 06:38

Well done greencard and Laughing - starting (and, I imagine, re-starting) is tough!

DottyDot · 03/09/2014 08:07

Well done Greencard! Everyone's doing so well Grin

Wasting I think 7.5kph is good! I was running at around 7.1kph for a long time and only very recently have managed to get above 8kph for any sustained length of time. The C25K+ app on interval training is really good and has helped me with that, so that's one to have a go at when you've finished the programme.

stilllearnin · 03/09/2014 10:12

hi today i did my 2nd run of the week 4.62km in 30 mins - not as tough as monday but the last hill was a bit of a killer. I think I'll reverse my route next time. I'm still looking for a 5 to 10k podcast for the weekend. I've found a few but cannot run them on my ancient device!

Well done everyone still running. I was also thinking today while out that this is a really good message to our kids that fitness is important and you dont have to be an athlete to start taking care of yourself!

Sunrun · 03/09/2014 11:07

Hi all, I'm new to this thread and it's great to see what other people are doing.

I will be doing W6R2 this evening and could do with some advice...does anybody here run with a buggy? I did a few of the earlier weeks with the buggy but found it loads more difficult. Any tips to make it easier?

CruCru · 03/09/2014 13:11

W8R2 done! It's a bit annoying because I went much further than on Monday but MapmyRun said I only ran 4.4km (on Monday it said I did 4.5km). How is this possible?

OP posts:
CruCru · 03/09/2014 13:12

Hi Sunrun! What buggy do you run with?

OP posts:
Sunrun · 03/09/2014 15:02

Hi Cru, good point, it's just a normal buggy - a Graco Evo - not one designed for running. Might be worth investigating a less bulky one

CruCru · 03/09/2014 16:22

If I were to get a running buggy, I would probably get a Nipper Sport. However, DH will go loopy if I buy yet another bloody buggy for our buggy park living room.

The running jacket arrived and I like it a lot. It is light grey with blue edging, still quite see through. It fits fine and in fact is a bit longer than the women's one. The arms are slightly long but I'll take that over feeling as though I have been shrink wrapped.

primarynoodle · 03/09/2014 16:23

did my first run today... well mainly walk for week1 I suppose!

apart from fitnesa (main goal) has anyone noticed decent weight loss too?

CruCru · 03/09/2014 16:24

This is so cool

OP posts:
CruCru · 03/09/2014 16:25

Hi primarynoodle! I am not sure about weight loss but a friend said how much thinner and more defined my calves are looking. Which is nice.

OP posts:
ScienceRocks · 03/09/2014 16:51

Primary noodle, I have actually put weight on, which was most definitely not the intention. Four weeks ago I started doing jillian every day, and a week and a half ago started alternating jillian with c25k. I have had maybe three rest days in that time, but I walk quite a bit with the dog and DDs every day anyway. I am being careful with my diet, but not fanatical (I shared a bottle of wine with DH on our wedding anniversary, for example) and generally eat quite healthily (fruit is my snack of choice) but the scales are definitely going the wrong way Sad

I feel fitter and stronger, which was really the point, but I'd really like my bmi to drop to within normal limits instead of hovering at the lower end of the overweight range. It is infuriating, especially as everyone I know who has done jillian or c25k seems to have lost loads of weight quite quickly Angry

Any tips from the seasoned c25kers?

DottyDot · 03/09/2014 17:01

I've been losing weight steadily since starting C25K - about 1 - 2lb a week, but that's stopped since being on holiday this summer, eating a ton of chocolate and going to the gym less (surprise, surprise...!). I've definitely noticed a change in shape - less around the middle but still tons everywhere else - still it's nice to know there's a waist there somewhere... Grin

Have got my gym clothes on which means I must be going tonight - have to teach piano first but determined to get out and attempt a run - see how the knee is...

DottyDot · 03/09/2014 17:02

meant to say though that dp is also putting on weight even though she's waaaaay fitter than me - she's doing C25K and is on week 7. She also cycles to work 4 days a week and is generally a lot healthier and about 3 stone lighter than me. She's gutted as she wants to lose around 7lbs but it's going the other way Sad . Not sure why other than she must be building up muscle..??
