What would be interesting is to have our fat percentage calculated at the beginning and end of the program to see whether it has changed.

I've lost a little weight, very slowly (about 2lb/month) but I've shrunk lots - I've taken a tuck of about an inch off my running leggings, and they are starting to fall down again (tho I guess it could be the trousers loosing elasticity?!)

CruCru · 03/09/2014 18:08

I think my shape is changing, rather than me losing weight, I'm becoming more streamlined.

ScienceRocks · 03/09/2014 18:25

The thing that concerns me is that if I stop, my current increased weight will become my new normal Sad or if I continue, it will keep going up Sad

FitByForty · 03/09/2014 18:34

Evening all. Well I'm back from my hols. We had a fabulous time but despite my best intentions including packing all my running gear, I never actually managed the running I promised myself I would do. Oh well Smile
I decided to just throw myself back at on my return and instead of easing myself back in to it I started yesterday where I'd left off with W5R1. And it was surprisingly ok. I'm feeling a little sore on the thighs today but I guess that's to be expected after 2 weeks off. So W5R2 tomorrow is the plan.

WastingMyYoungYears · 03/09/2014 18:43

I bought body fat %age scales so that I could track my body fat etc. I'll check again later and report back Grin.

stilllearnin · 03/09/2014 20:58

a bit of a derail - ive found the podrunner website - it has some funky running mixes and then also c25k and a scary looking gateway to 8k which i will try out at the weekend.

DottyDot · 03/09/2014 21:19

Back from the gym and a bit deflated because I couldn't manage to get to 5k and I kept having to stop and walk every few minutes - felt like I couldn't catch my breath. On the plus side, my knee held out...!

So I think I'm going to go back to the beginning of week 5 and do the last few weeks again, to get back in the swing of things and build up some stamina. Not sure why I've gone off the boil but am determined to do a bloody park run in September so I'd better get back on track! Grin

ChameleonCircuit · 03/09/2014 21:38

You'll get back to it quickly Dotty.

I did another 30 minutes today, managed 4k. I reckon next time we'll set a distance rather than a time. Go for 4.5k to start with, do that 2-3 times, then push to 5k. Eeeek, this is getting scary!! No C25K instructions. Shock

stilllearnin · 03/09/2014 21:49

I know, I get in a right panic without Laura! Dotty, I've completed c25k before and then had to restart it maybe 2 or 3 times. You will recover your stamina really quickly - possibly in only around 2 weeks. But just make sure you keep running regularly. And in a way you need to remember that what you actually run is not that important - it is the fact that you are doing it at all that matters.

Sunrun · 04/09/2014 08:26

Cru that buggy looks amazing but I think my husband would have a fit too!

Did W6R2 yesterday, went fine but I'm now nervous about the 25 min runs and that there's no more sessions with walking breaks.

FitByForty · 04/09/2014 11:33

Keep going Dotty! You will be back on form in no time at all I'm sure. You have been an inspiration to me
and I have faith in you!!
Just back from W5R2. I found it hard. The first 8 minutes was ok bit I think I paced myself a bit fast as the second 8 minutes were really tough despite slowing myself down. Am terrified for Saturday and the full 20 minutes with no stopping Angry (this is not angry face, this is very red and sweaty post run face)

addictedtosugar · 04/09/2014 13:44

I thik there is also something about the weather. I'm really struggling at the moment. I did my usualy 5km route, and had to walk twice, and was 5 mins slower than usual.
So its either the weather, or post hioliday icecream effect!

maffive · 04/09/2014 13:51

I haven't lost any weight, well maybe a kilo, but I think I've lost a few cm from my waist. I'm not cutting calories though, just trying to be sensible. Mainly I just want to be fitter than I am.

Don't be discouraged Dotty. This is just a little blip. Think back to w1r1 and how hard that was and how much more you can do now.

I did w5r3 for the third time today. Really happy with how it went and ran a little further at the end so that I finished at the car park. Saw Blue Fairy Wrens, Pink Galas, ducks, Lorrikeets, Lapwings... but thankfully no Magpies! Grin

WastingMyYoungYears · 04/09/2014 20:12

Hi everyone Smile.

I just did W7R2 Smile. I did my usual route, but backwards. I didn't realise that my previous downhills were so steep! If MapMyRun ever syncs it will be interesting to see how I did.

When I head out running now, I start thinking about long sleeved tops, but when I'm nearly finished, I'm dreaming of little vests and shorts Grin.

Is anyone else on Week 7 at the moment?

ifancyagreencard · 04/09/2014 21:55

CruCru, Science Rocks, Laughing M, Wasting, Dotty Dot - thank you SO much for your encouraging words on Tuesday! Yay - very glad I joined the thread . . W1R2 just completed after a PTA meeting. 30 mins of exercise that I can do anytime is bloody easier than trying to fit in a class. Running last thing is great - get home, jump in the bath, job done. Not massively overweight but scared myself on an active holiday this summer with my lack of general fitness and crappy muscle tone - DD beat me up a step hike by 15 odd minutes. This is the first time I have ever run - never ever thought it was for me. Amazed at the buzz even two sessions have given me. I know full well I will hit the wall at some point - that's when I will turn to all you lovely ladies ahead of me in the programme for your advice! Good Luck to everyone!

DaftMaul · 04/09/2014 22:02

Hello All, I did my first run/walk this morning. Was tougher than I thought it would be which doesn't bode well for later weeks! Luckily I managed to avoid magpies and sheep but I did have trouble trying to keep my headphones in!

I am really hoping to lose weight as well as get fitter. I dug out all my zaggora kit and wore my hotpants and jacket. Does anyone else use them? They are made of wetsuit type fabric and basically make you sweat more. Not sure whether it makes any difference but worth a go - obviously their website insists they do. I wonder if I can sue if I don't look like Angelina Jolie by th end of 8 weeks?

I notice some are using apps and some using podcasts. Is there any difference in what they all do, or does it boil down to the same thing?

DaftMaul · 04/09/2014 22:04

Crossed posts Ifancy. Well done!

ifancyagreencard · 04/09/2014 22:15

Hey DaftMaul - Ok we can be running buddies! I'm using the NHS app - there are probably better ones but I'm happy with "Laura". I'm just running in 3/4 reebok trousers and a t shirt. One thing I am struggling with is a playlist with the right beats for my running pace, so I will find some time this weekend to put a decent playlist together. Tucking my phone in my bra for now (elegant) LOL. Enjoy the day off tomorrow, catch you Saturday!

CruCru · 04/09/2014 22:47

Argh!!! I think I have broken a toe (stubbed it on a table leg yesterday, today it's purple and swollen). Doesn't hurt, will see how running goes tomorrow.

I showed my mum my new running jacket. She said it was vile, like I'm wearing a bunch of plastic bags. Humph.

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/09/2014 09:39

SmileSmileSmile greencard, it's great that you're enjoying it.

daftmaul, I can't believe that you're wearing clothes to make you sweat more Grin. I realised yesterday when I was running that my breathing felt okay, and my legs felt okay, but my general hot sweatiness made me want to stop.

Cru, oh no, that's bad news about your toe. And is your Mother always so forthright with her opinions Shock? I bet it's really nice.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 05/09/2014 10:49

Daftmaul you will be a racing snake next time I see you.

Cru sounds painful, take it easy.

I am having to give up the programme as my knees are well and truly buggered not coping, however if you are OK I am going to stick around, going to build up running slower doing 3 minutes running in a walk for a couple of weeks and then try to build up on it that way.

I have lost a smidgin of weight but clothes feeling loser

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/09/2014 11:33

Five, I'd see a physio if you can. I have a knee problem that I can run with (Smile/Confused), but I wouldn't have known that unless a physio told me. Also, gait analysis + new running shoes helped me a lot.

CruCru · 05/09/2014 11:56

Wasting - you need a thick skin around my Mum. Thankfully I am now a 36 year old mother of two so am able to tell her to do one.

Five - yes, please go and see a physio. And yes, please do stick around. It isn't boot camp (thank god) and we aren't going to shout at people who don't finish within the 9 week window.
