I'm going to try to do week2 run 3 which was my next one to do before I got sick, I'm hoping it's not too busy in my woods today, it's a lovely sunny morning in half term so I'm expecting it to be busy although I do go on the less used path, it's a bit muddy and is a longer route as they built a nice new path lower down the hill which most people use.

MySpideySenseTickles · 28/10/2014 11:49

Well I did it, I'm not sure whether to count it or if I should push on to week three though because I had to stop about ten seconds before the end of a couple of runs because I couldn't breathe, I pushed on and did all the runs but I'm disappointed I couldn't push through it.

mylifeagain · 28/10/2014 12:07

Well done spidey you've done a lot better than me today. Just been out for w7r1 and failed miserably. I couldn't even run to the halfway point before walking and just gave up after 20 minutes.I am so disappointed in myself. They do say you have bad days though don't they?

MySpideySenseTickles · 28/10/2014 12:30

At least we got out and ran instead of laying on the sofa eating crisps (that's this afternoon lol)
I've not run in a week I've had a terrible cough which hasn't totall cleared up yet.

ScienceRocks · 28/10/2014 17:05

Well done spidey!

After my successful park run at the weekend, I have just had a disastrous treadmill session. Had to slow down a couple of times because I was getting a stitch, and then the phone rang... And rang again... And rang again. So I stopped and answered it. It was mil, confirming arrangements that have already been confirmed, and so determined to do so she just kept redialling until she got an answer Angry

So a 25 minute stop-starty kind of run. Hey ho. Might try another park run at the weekend to check that last weekend wasn't a fluke...

stilllearnin · 29/10/2014 17:23

4.85k this morning before a 6hr drive home (no fun!), but I am glad I seem to be back on it a bit. I'm away again in a couple of days and the hotel has a fitness room so I am hoping to get on the treadmill for some interval stuff . The next big obstacle is getting back into a sit up routine. Being away will make it harder but I am going to start tomorrow because putting things off to a date in the future eg I'll start on Monday, is a thing of the past Wink

MySpideySenseTickles · 29/10/2014 17:32

I bought a new top today, it's a size 16. I've not been a size 16 since I was 16! Thanks c25k! (And strict diet) ive gone from a size 24 to 18-20 (the new top is quite a forgiving style but still counts goddammit!)

enormouse · 29/10/2014 17:33

Hi I fell off the thread but I graduated a few weeks ago and now do 5k(ish) every other day.

Thank you all for the support and encouragement. Never thought I'd be a runner a few months ago.

Iggi999 · 29/10/2014 21:50

Spidey that's quite an achievement!
I managed a 30 min, measly 4k run today. I've noticed my legs (back of calves) feel very sore - sometimes it's the front but today the back. It really puts me off carrying on. Doing my best but the mojo is going. Hoping to do a nice daytime run at the weekend and get back in the groove Smile Does anyone have any leg tips? I do my warm up walk and then so a few stretches before running.

stilllearnin · 29/10/2014 22:05

iggi do you do any other form of exercise? Do you need a different challenge now? My top tip would be go somewhere pretty for a run with no expectations at all - maybe promise yourself you'll run for 10 mins just to take in the scenery. My fave is the forest

Iggi999 · 29/10/2014 22:34

I think I will try for changes of scenery when I do a run at the weekend. Week days ones are always dusk/dark now.
Running is the only exercise that seems to fit for me just now - free, short, can do it straight from the front door etc.
And nice people to chat to about it on the internet!

Iggi999 · 31/10/2014 15:54

Have I killed thread? Confused

addictedtosugar · 31/10/2014 20:23

Maybe, Iggi!
I went out last night, and it felt really fast. But it wasn't.
I was running in the dark tho.

Its the straight from the front door, without a fixed start time that has kept me running.

Maybe everyone is away for half term, and will be back next week guess who isn't at a Halloween party!

ScienceRocks · 01/11/2014 17:51

Iggi, I have just noticed a new couch to 5k thread in chat. Maybe everyone has defected to that?

I have defected to the runners thread, but I haven't had a very good week. I did a park run today but struggled and ended up with a time that was a minute longer than last week. I'm blaming the rain and mud Sad

MySpideySenseTickles · 01/11/2014 18:02

I'm Still around, not even managed to run though, hectic half term and now ds has a tummy bug.

DaftMaul · 01/11/2014 22:24

I'm still around too but haven't run during half term because f my knee and having children round.

I'm sure people will be back next week once term starts again. I'm going to try a run on Monday but suspect I will eventually end up going to the GP for a physio referral.

Those of us who run in the evenings will have get used to the dark! Please wear suitable clothing, even in areas with streetlights and give vehicles, bicycles and motorbikes time to spot you. Was having a chat with ds (13) this week about walking home from school in the dark now and pointing out how difficult it is to spot pedestrians from dusk onwards. School uniforms are so dark!

Iggi999 · 01/11/2014 22:58

Oh dear. Hoping the injuries heal quickly - the dark nights we can't do much about! I'm always looking at runners now - I never really noticed them before - and some are very hard to see. In my bright orange Aldi top I am not!
Going for a daytime run tomorrow, looking forward to it. If I could work out how far 5k was from my house I would ask dh to drop me off, would make a change from doing round trips.
Next I must stop the dark-nights eating habit I've slipped in to Sad

stilllearnin · 01/11/2014 23:33

Still here too! Getting dropped off is a great idea. I might try that too. I managed 3 runs this week! 2x 30 mins and one speed podcast. But I haven't managed any other exercise. I really need to lose weight before I can improve I think but I have completely turned against dieting.

MontserratCaballe · 02/11/2014 10:46

Hello! Can I join you please? I have just finished Week5 run3 with the loooooong 20m run at the end. It was hard going but I made it. Have you all completed C25K or are there some people like me in the early stages?

MySpideySenseTickles · 02/11/2014 11:11

I'm Only just on week 3 some have finished.

DaftMaul · 02/11/2014 12:27

Hi Monserat, welcome. I was at the end of W6 when I stopped. We are all at a variety of stages.

It is great to still have those who have 'graduated' as they have been through it all and help to inspire us to finish!

emmief77 · 03/11/2014 07:29

Can you give me some advice about getting started on the C25K programme.... I'm 43, overweight and very unfit ... but the lovely people on another thread suggested I pop over here and join you guys!

I did a bit of running in my 30s but never very fast, but that was pre kids when I had far less wobbly bits Blush

My concern is running on my own, not from a safety pov, but I am lazy and think I'll get to the first lamp post and turn round and come home Blush Blush if left on my own .... My friends are either super fit or not interested. Second concern is if I do manage to get out of the door and complete first few runs is keeping going with the programme.. Sigh... wish I was one of those people who find sticking to an exercise programme easy.

Joined a running club in my 30s only to find full of men who considered running 10 miles a short run, never went back, but did run with friends of similar ability (unfortunately due to my dc have lost touch with them all now)

ScienceRocks · 03/11/2014 09:44

Emmie, the fact that you are thinking about it is great!

Just get started, post on here and we will help you. I was exactly the same when I started: overweight, not keen on exercise, always told I wasn't sporty. But the programme kind of carried me through and I have done park runs the last couple of weekends! I still can't believe I can do 5k when a couple of months ago, I was struggling with 60 seconds!

Oh, and don't worry about speed. It's about getting out there and doing it. Speed can come once you have built some stamina or not, in my case.

Iggi999 · 03/11/2014 10:35

You just have to start. The app helps you keep going I think.
I have struggled to keep going on to 5k, it worked really well at the weekend to have dh drop me off 3 miles from the house so I had to keep going! I must have miscalculated slightly as did 5.5 k in all. I'm the most surprised of all that I can do that given how hard week 1 was for me!

MontserratCaballe · 03/11/2014 12:29

Emmi, just download the app and start running! I think many of us struggled with the 60s jog at the outset. You need to get your trainers on, then you are on your way. I wear a beanie hat so I am more anonymous, but frankly I don't care if people see me as I am at least out there doing something rather than on the sofa.

I started a few weeks back and yesterday ran for 20m non stop. It was hard and I was jolly tired by the end but I made it. I struggled with the early weeks too. Just think, by Christmas you could be nearly at the end if you start now. There's nothing to lose, and a great deal to gain Smile.

Iggi, 5.5k is awesome. Well done. How long have you been running?

I am afraid I failed to go this morning as I only had about 3 hours sleep but am looking forward to running later in the week.
