What brand are your new trainers Cru?

I was eyeing off some very bright pink running shoes today. I am currently wearing Nike cross trainers in a boring grey. Do actual running trainers make a difference?

EdwiniasRevenge · 08/08/2014 13:20

I know, I know.

Tbh I am trying to run every other day so my "week" is actually 6 days long IYSWIM. I'm not sticking to calendar weeks.

ATM because I had been training a full 5km (run/walk) for a good few weeks I am finding the overall burden of the C25K sessions quite light as I am only doing about 3km and being on W2 the total amount of running is a lot less than I was doing with the 5km where I was running about half the distance so probably a total of 18-20 mins compared to the 9mins I am doing on the C25K.

3.7km is great crucru. How did you find the jump from W3 to W4? It looks like quite a big jump on paper, from 9mins running to 16 I think and a lot less walking....

WastingMyYoungYears · 08/08/2014 13:55

I've been running every other day so far too.

Rest day today Smile.

CruCru · 08/08/2014 15:37

I got Brooks Adrenalin GTS 14 (men's). They are silver with blue edging. They suit my super wide, high arch feet.

CruCru · 08/08/2014 15:41

I did find the jump from W3 to W4 quite big but I was super happy once I finished a run. It's the running for five minutes without stopping that does it.

I'm half looking forward to and half dreading W5. I think it gets much more hardcore over the three runs.

spookyskeleton · 08/08/2014 16:05

Rest days are very important to firstly prevent injury and secondly, enable the muscles to rebuild which makes them stronger so tempting as it is to run every day, don't Grin

The C25K running group that I volunteer for have just finished week 7 and I ran with 2 of them last night to support them running 5k - they didn't believe they could do it but they did Smile was lovely to have helped them.

Ooh, I've just been reading the runners thread and apparently, holding your phone in your hand is a bad idea, RSI can result. Great excuse to go buy myself a phone armband. Grin. Does anyone know of one with an elastic loop where I could stash my inhaler too, so I could go totally hands free?

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 17:42

No but the waistbands from decathlon are good - enough space for a phone, key and definitely inhaler! A water bottle's still the problem though - I don't like carrying anything because my hands get too sweaty..!

WastingMyYoungYears · 08/08/2014 18:29

Yes, I usually put my phone and key in the pocket on the back of my running tights, and hold a water bottle into hand - is this bad though?

Watto1 · 08/08/2014 18:35

I tuck my phone into one side of my bra with my key in the other side Blush

ChameleonCircuit · 08/08/2014 19:04

To be honest I'm not sure the waistbands would fit! Blush
The pocket in my capris is only big enough for my car key, and I don't carry water. Finally.....ain't no spare room in my bra to keep anything! Grin

I think I've found one with a loop - it's supposed to be for keeping your headphone wire tidy, but looks like it'd fit my inhaler.

WastingMyYoungYears · 08/08/2014 19:19

There's lots of room in my bra now that you mention it Grin.

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 19:53

Seriously, if the waist thingy fits me, it'll fit anyone! I've just seen another MN thread about waist size and depressed myself by measuring mine. Sigh. Anyway the waist thingy's fine Grin.

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 19:54

Ooh ooh - there's a fitness stuff sale in Aldi this Sunday! Dp said she's going to buy me the pretend fitbit Grin.

EdwiniasRevenge · 08/08/2014 21:34

Well I was naughty and I've just done W3R1.

And I did it all! I am soooo chuffed. I thought it was beyond my ability but I nailed it. I just took it ultra slow and I did it.

I don't know if I love Laura for keeping me going or hate Laura for telling me I'm half way through when I think getting ti the end.

But I did it :)

Only covered 2.5km but the session is 6 mins shorter than the previous ones as there is a lot less walking.

I am :) :) :) :).

ChameleonCircuit · 08/08/2014 22:35

Ooh, well done Edwinias!

Thanks Dotty - will consider the waist belts too, then.

stilllearnin · 08/08/2014 22:49

thanks dotty Grin

CruCru · 08/08/2014 22:57

Ah well done EdwiniasRevenge!

Tomorrow is a rest day (we are driving to the Isle of Wight) so I'm going to do W5R1 on Sunday, provided that there isn't a hurricane Wink.

stilllearnin · 08/08/2014 22:58

ok just looked at the aldi fake fitbit. can anyone offer a product review as I have £25 birthday money from my mum. kaster is this what you have?

CruCru · 08/08/2014 22:58

I have an armband thing for carrying my phone, I put my keys in my back pocket and I carry water in my hand.

CruCru · 08/08/2014 23:03

What does a fitbit do?

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 23:08

It's a gadgety thing that tracks what you do - you wear it on your wrist and it monitors all your exercise and plugs into your PC via a USB (I think) so you can download information. You can set yourself targets and it lets you know how you've done.

Basically, it's gadgety and fairly non-essential bit I can't resist a gadget (iPad still on the list...!).

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 23:09

Oh and actual fitbits are about £70 but Aldi's pretend one is £29 Grin

CruCru · 08/08/2014 23:19

Do you wear it all the time then or only when you're running?

DottyDot · 08/08/2014 23:21

All the time - even when you're asleep if you want as apparently it monitors how well you're sleeping! It's like a prisoner ankle tracker but on your wrist. And you're not a prisoner. Well, only to fitness... Grin.
