Yay! Week 8 completed Grin

Can't believe only 3 runs to go, although getting slightly panicky about life after Laura...

Can any of the graduates recommend another app to use that will keep me going, maybe towards 10k? I looked last night but couldn't find an NHS one so wasn't sure which was best.

Managed to cover 4.35k today (including the walking bits) so it feels like the 5k is possibly in sight!!

DuchessFanny · 05/08/2014 18:47

Feeling a bit emotional, I was in a rotten mood as I was convinced I wouldn't be able to achieve wk6r1 but I've only gone and done it !!! It hurt, I won't lie, but I did it - I'm so pleased but also a bit tearful - normal ??

DottyDot · 05/08/2014 18:57

Definitely normal - or I'm also abnormal - have cried twice so far on the programme!

CruCru · 05/08/2014 18:59

My goodness - I can't imagine getting to week 8!

I am a fool - this afternoon I had DD (10 months) on my left hip and twisted, clicking my back. I really hope it is okay tomorrow, I NEED to go running.

CruCru · 05/08/2014 19:02

Dotty - there are three Couch to 5k plus programs - Steeping Stone, Speed and Stamina - all by the NHS.

Don't know whether Laura is in them though

addictedtosugar · 05/08/2014 19:16

Yep, it is Laura in the C25K+.
Don't try stamina first - its a killer initially.

Don't know what they are like, but there are several 5-10km podcast series. I found this one but Spooky has also done a 5-10km, I think.

I've settled as 5-6 km being about right for me. I've done the occasional 8km, and would like to do a 10km occasionally, but the 30-40 mins (inc warm up) is about right for me, I don't think I could find an hour, plus shower time regularly.

Can't beleive your nearly there, Dotty, you go girl!

DuchessFanny · 05/08/2014 19:16

Oh good ! Thanks dotty ! Had a tiny blub in the shower and feeling better now, I think it's because it's given my esteem a bit of a boost - think I'll probably be crying again, tears of joy and not pain I hope Grin

Phoenixwoman · 05/08/2014 19:18

cru no not from arizona, just an HP fan :)

I've bailed tonight, I've had a long day kooking after other peoples dc and mine and she has just rang to say he'll be home in 30 mins and he's bringing a takeaway. I know I'll feel bad after I eat it but it was just too tempting! Might try an early morning run and pigs might fly

Phoenixwoman · 05/08/2014 19:21

Well done Duchess, I can't wait to complete it, hardly any of my rl family know I'm doing it and they won't believe it with my form for fitness. Can't wait to share it when I complete that final run.

DottyDot · 05/08/2014 19:45

Ooh thanks Cru! Have downloaded them for future use!

Just got to make it through week 9 first... Grin

CruCru · 05/08/2014 19:54

When you have completed week 9, why don't you treat yourself to one of those fitbit things? You will totally deserve a little present.

spookyskeleton · 05/08/2014 20:08

dotty I started B210k (there is an app) which was OK but I didn't really use it and just threw myself into running 10k one night with a friend! not the best advice really Blush

I really want a garmin but will need to wait until Christmas! my phone is unreliable and often loses signal so my run seems to stop and start.

Am running my original 5k course tomorrow night - haven't run it since beginning of June so using it to measure my progress. I am really hoping that my time is quicker which it should be after the 10k runs and hill training. Really want to get it under 30 minutes Smile

Hi all Smile.

I just did W2R2 - it was okay, but my knees are clearly a bit unhappy. Does anyone have any good Oh yes, my knees were sore too, but I just ran through it stories Grin?

Edwinias, I think we're at about the same stage, so I always notice your posts. It's hard, isn't it? But we're both doing really well. I can be quite stubborn Blush, so I'm hoping that will stand me in good stead.

I also show my enthusiasm for any new pursuits by shopping Confused. I've already got decent long and three quarter length running tights, but I think I need a racer back vest or two...

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/08/2014 20:58

At the end of C25K, does Laura tell you to have a nice cup of tea and a Tunnock's Tea Cake Grin?

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/08/2014 20:58

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/08/2014 20:58

Or possibly two Grin.

spookyskeleton · 05/08/2014 21:05

wasting check out H&M s they have some good cheap racer back vests but they are very comfortable and goods quality. In fact, H&M have a great range of running gear so worth a look for any of you Smile

Thanks spooky Smile.

PrivateBenjamin · 05/08/2014 21:27

I just did W1R3. It was really hard, probably because I ate a massive lamb rogan josh and half a box of chocolate fingers before I went out. I had a stitch all the way round and all my joints on one side ache now. I think I was ambling sideways like the hunchback of Notre Dame due to the stitch. Ah well, you live and learn don't you?! Don't stuff your face before a run.

Well done to everybody else on their running. It's great to hear your stories as a newbie.

ChameleonCircuit · 05/08/2014 21:32

PrivateBenjamin I've read that if you get a stitch you should change step. Haven't tried it, but it couldn't hurt to give it a go.

EdwiniasRevenge · 05/08/2014 21:38

Yes wasting you feel like my personal running buddy

Did you find W2r2 any easier than w2r1?
I didn't. Is it supposed to feel any easier?
how do I know when I am ready for w3? I don't feel comfortable on w2 yet. I can't see that I would be capable of the 3minute run yet. Dunno whether to keep at the w2 a couple of extra times to get more "comfortable" at it or whether to go for it and even if I try and fail I just keep chipping away at it until I succeed.

Who was asking about tingling legs? I think it was crucru?
My legs tingle just under the skin at the end of a run which is apparently a blood flow thing. What i am noticing though is that I am getting a lot of bruises on my legs with no obvious cause. I wonder if I am being injured from 'inside'. Does that make sense?
someone also asked about painful knees. I had this a few weeks ago. Google "runners knee". Didn't hurt me too much while i was running. It was afterwards, especially going down the stairs. I just rested for a week-10 days and was fine.

on another note - I went out for an "extra" run this morning. Did 5km in 46mins. I do a run/walk pattern which is about 45sec run 1min walk so much shorter intervals but longer than I was doing before C25K. I was frustrated by something and "needed" to run it off. Can't believe I'm saying that I "needed" to go for a run.

Rest day tomorrow.

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/08/2014 21:38

Private, I think I read that you should wait 2 hours after food before going for a run - I waited 1 hour today, it was fine. Apparently, you need the blood in your legs for running, not in your digestive tract Grin.

I want a takeaway now Smile.

DottyDot · 05/08/2014 21:39

I definitely run much better if I haven't eaten - my most difficult runs are always on Mondays after tea when I've taken ds1 to cricket practice and then go to the gym. Tons better when I've not eaten for a few hours.

And I'm expecting balloons, streamers and 76 bloody trombones when I finish W9R3...!! Grin

WastingMyYoungYears · 05/08/2014 21:44

Edwinias Grin.

I did find W2R2 easier than W2R1, but I had a really rubbish W2R1 for a few reasons, so I'm not sure that that reflects any increase in fitness.

I'm very much prepared to stick at a particular run if I don't feel able to move on - I think the most important thing is to make sustainable progress in the longer term.

CruCru · 05/08/2014 21:53

WastingMyYoungYears - I've heard that if your knees hurt, you may need new running shoes. I started a thread about when running shoes need to be replaced here.
