Hi I ran 3 miles yesterday, got round most of it still dry then it tipped down for the last three quarters of a mile. V nice run though and it was my only opportunity to get out. Left foot a bit sore today but ok on run. Been to docs today to get referral.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2014 10:57

A very wet parkrun plus getting there any back is another 4 mins from me. So including orangeflutie's 3 total is 1034!!!

orangeflutie · 24/05/2014 11:10

Well done CinnamonSmile I would like to give park run a try but Saturdays are impossible at the moment. Just had to drop middle dd off to cricket again and now home with the other 2! Can't see it letting up for a while. Will be out early tomorrow, feel too stressed if I can't have a Sunday runSmile

Fishandjam · 24/05/2014 11:16

A stupidly wet and soggy 3.1 Parkrun miles from me this morning - so 1037.1?

I was only 40 seconds off my PB so quite pleased!

fingersonbuzzers · 24/05/2014 11:37

Well done parkrunners! What a grim day, eh? I was volunteering for the first time today, sure Know how to pick my days - what a contrast from last week!

I enjoyed it, though, especially getting to see the frontrunners come in (as I am so far from being able to see it in person when I run!) also enjoyed watching the wide range of ages and impressed how many of the 50/60+ age ranges came in with amazing times (that I would kill for myself).

Came home and went do treadmill intervals, it was so hot and humid in the gym that I gave up halfway through and as the rain had eased took the dog out to run the rest of my kms. Was only planning on doing 5k today as my knee was still twingeing (and still is when I run Sad) so that's another 3.2 miles to add giving us 104.3 I think?

Was planning on doing the sweathop 10k social tomorrow, but it looks like tomorrow is going to be the only decent day this week and we've tickets to take the DC on the rides at Wicksteed park so I may have to shelve that for this week.

How's everyone's weekend going so far?

HalleLouja · 24/05/2014 12:51

I did 3.5 miles yesterday so that is 1043.8 now I think.

Am waiting to get the membership pack from the tri club. Am quite tempted to actually join famous last words.

originalpiratematerial · 24/05/2014 14:15

Now 1046.9 with my parkrun added! It was absolutely tipping it down but I really like running in the rain, so I enjoyed it muchly and did it faster than first time (only my second parkrun ever).

melliebobs · 24/05/2014 14:21

No rain at my ParkRun. I fact it was quite pleasant with a cool breeze! 33:03 so not my best time by a long shot, but for some reason just couldn't get going today

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/05/2014 17:28

Did 15.47km today, new distance for me. Wasn't very clever though and ran up a very steep hill at the end which made me,feel sick. Really think I need to get my pre. And and post run nutrition sorted.

postmanpatscat · 24/05/2014 17:51

Hope you've all dried off! I was barcode scanner at parkrun this morning and apparently the scanner doesn't like getting wet - neither does the volunteer operating it!! I got to stand in the portico of a stately home, poor me, while hordes of soggy, muddy runners trooped up the steps to me. Only 50 runners today, compared to 80 last week.

8 miles for me (on a hotel treadmill) brings our total up to 1058 including mellie's parkrun and my run. Adding onlyone's amazing run (9.8 I think) makes 1067.8

MelanieCheeks · 24/05/2014 18:08

Bit dreary at our parkrun, but all the volunteering stuff went very smoothly (and I got a special mention in the write up on facebook!). I was timekeeper, me and the back-up, and the token giver-outer were constantly checking with each other, and the run director hovered near us too, to ensure that any anomalies were recorded. I'm going to go along next week to see how the times and scanner are input to the computer - am slightly tempted to train up as a run director....

originalpiratematerial · 24/05/2014 18:47

Brilliant run, onlyone! Well done melanie, glad it went smoothly Smile.

vladthedisorganised · 24/05/2014 20:14

Wowee, onlyone and postmanpat- that's amazing!
After a week of humidity, wheezing and heavy legs I was quite pleased with my 5.5 miles today - hopefully the start of getting back to form. Kept a reasonably consistent pace throughout and only slowed down to let a large lorry past, which I felt was justified in the circumstances Grin

Bought myself a brand new Garmin Forerunner today, as well as finding a nice Adidas hat that doesn't spring off my hair. I look completely daft but it does keep the rain out of my eyes.

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/05/2014 20:38

Thank you! I wish I had known I was only 0.2 miles away from 10 miles. My mum was babysitting the DC and was a bit concerned at my shakiness when I got home. Any suggestions for what I should be eating a set time before I run, and when I get home? I managed to keep it under 6 mins per KM which was my goal apart from the silly uphill run which was nearer 8mins.

We have a local triathlon club here that uses the open air pool (NE Scotland,) in the summer. Was a nice day to be out, not too hot not too cold

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2014 20:48

Glad you enjoyed it fingersonbuzzers!!

Do it melanieCheeks! The results upload is easy if all goes smoothly and the rest you can't really prepare for!

postmanpatscat · 24/05/2014 21:24

only 16k is ten miles so my calculation is a bit rough, but yes, you were very close to ten! My energy stores run low at around 15k and I think I should try energy gels on the go.

Theonlyoneiknow · 24/05/2014 21:29

Good idea about gels.I can't see me going past this distance for a while though. My goal was 15km when I left so don't mind too much. The soles of my feet were also sore by then. Away to tuck into a mint choc chip ice cream nougat wafer ;)

cinnamongreyhound · 24/05/2014 21:41

Jelly babies are better than gels imo, gels are disgusting! I can manage 10 miles ok without anything but when I've done my hm's I had one at 6 miles and one at 9 miles and it definitely helped.

BetsyBell · 24/05/2014 22:13

Hello! Can I park myself here? I am trying to get out running 2 or 3 times a week to try and improve my stamina a bit. I currently run around 3 or 4k a session but am trying to up this closer to 10k by the autumn, when I may, or may not, depending on how well my training efforts are going, enter a 10k.

Hoping that joining this thread will give me that little bit of extra motivation!

originalpiratematerial · 24/05/2014 22:25

Betsy this is the place to be for sure Grin

postmanpatscat · 24/05/2014 22:39

Welcome Betsy! Nice to see you over here as well as the 5:2 threads!

MelanieCheeks · 25/05/2014 07:57

Hiya Betsy (and other 5:2 pals)

I like jelly beans - a few of them doont take up much space in a zippy pocket, and they are a bit more robust that jelly babies.

orangeflutie · 25/05/2014 08:19

Hi just back after running 5.75 miles. Wasn't intending to go that far but ended up running a wiggly new route. Bit slower than usual but at least I did it.

Welcome BetsySmile

BetsyBell · 25/05/2014 08:35

Hello! Nice to see some familiar names :)

Each weekend, I try and meet up with a few others who are also attempting to boost up their running a bit and that day is this morning. I spent yesterday in pjs trying to ward off my usual 'it's half term, time to come down with some lurgy' bug, so am not 100% and may not be up to much but I'd like to do something. If nothing else, I have a grading soon for my next Tae Kwon Do belt and we do a bit of practise for that after our run!

So I gather the form is to say how far we've gone for a thread-running total? I apologise in advance for my pitiful contributions! They will look even worse in miles Grin

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 25/05/2014 09:24

I make the new total 1076.1.

That's with flutie's run plus my 3.2 mile shuffle this morning. My left ankle is hurting again so I had to go pretty slow and steady.

Welcome Betsy, any distance is further than no distance at all. Smile
