Thanks polka, I think I just have the wrong body shape for them (short and stumpy!) Smile

Congrats on marathon entry - that's very exciting!!

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 13:44

Has anyone done one of the Tough Mudders ?

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 14:02

I've ordered patella bands and I'm going to gently try the new insoles later today.

It's scary knowing what I've got to achieve over the coming year. My friend ran it this year and is doing it again next so I won't be alone. She's very supportive bossy so there will be no quitting!

cinnamongreyhound · 15/04/2014 14:19

All my stuff is karrimor apart from freebies from races and they are good apart from my vest! It's got a bra bit in that I couldn't not wear a proper bra with but it is quite elasticated to sit over the top of my bra so I generally wear my club vest when I wear a vest. Got a nice top from Aldi last week for the first time but hadn't thought of trying h&m, I have a lot of clothes from there anyway.

My hm is costal so I'm looking forward to that!

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 14:58

No, the tough mudders look to messy for me!

Hope the patella bands and insoles help polka

Hope its not windy Cinnamon

Apparently it has been in past years sirzy :(

My running buddy has done a tough mudder, it was after her first marathon when she said she thought she was invicible! She said it was really tough and she was glad when it was over but people do help each other which is nice.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 18:13

Today's efforts:
0.88mile with buggy (first outing) 10min33sec av pace 11:37min/mi

Then my C25k run, week 4 day 1:
2.45mile including a killer uphill 28min56sec av pace 11:50min/mi
I somehow missed the alert to walk so was running without stopping for about a mile.

I know I'm a long way off some of you but this is progress :)

EauRouge · 15/04/2014 18:35

I don't mind mud but the electrocution bit puts me off tough mudders (that and it's 10 bloody miles). If you want to do a muddy obstacle race, come and join us on the Team Wolef thread :)

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 18:54

Running a mile is great polka!

Anyone tried colour run?

Great fun, did it with my teens last year and they are begging to do it again this year!

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 19:16

I am doing one in july with some friends hopefully

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 19:19

I missed out on the local colour run, maybe next year.

Thanks Sirzy, it feels minuscule in comparison to this thread and the teensiest proportion of what lays ahead!

EauRouge · 15/04/2014 19:20

DD1 wants to do the Colour Run next year, is there a lower age limit? She'll be 6 by then. It does look like a lot of fun.

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 19:29

I am sure when I looked there was no lower age limit but you had to pay for 6 and over

Am going to sign up for a local rainbow run in June with DS. It is only 3km and as he is only six I think it will be just right for him.
He is very excited and keeps wanting to come out running with me!

dementedma · 15/04/2014 20:46

Yesterday did 6 x 3 minutes jogging with 2 minute walks in between. Tonight we combined the last two to do 6 minutes. Still an embarrassingly small amount but progress...

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 20:48

Hi everyone, I posted a couple of times on the last thread but have been rubbish at keeping up, it all moves so fast! Particular congratulations to orange flute on her marathon achievements and good luck to those with upcoming races.

I did the Brighton half in feb and have an 'undulating' mostly off-road half in June and a flat coastal one in November! Plus a few 10ks ( next one on Easter Monday) and 5 mile club races. But, I am hankering after something different. Current thinking is maybe a half abroad (fave is Prague which me and DH know well) or a marathon (which DH is not keen on the idea of and I am nervous but excited about...). Has anyone done any races abroad and how was it?

Also, would people say it is feasible at all to go to work the day(s) after a marathon? I am guessing not but as I am a teacher this will really restrict me in what marathons I could enter. Don't fancy teaching 30 small people if I can't move..... Grin.

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 20:51

orangeflutie, really must learn to preview properly!

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 20:56

demented that's really good! I've managed a bit longer without stopping to walk today, but running continuously for 30 mins / 5k still seems a way off.

roque Brighton marathon was in the Easter hols this year, not sure about next. But you've only got until midnight to bagsy a cheap place!!

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 21:00

Thanks polka, it is a real pain that both London and Brighton were in my school hols this year but neither one is next year!! Brighton is really close to me too. I just wasn't ready this year.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 21:04

I'm near Brighton too.

My DH is a teacher, I'm going to be asking my parents to do the school run on the day after the marathon!

There's a list online somewhere of all the dates, I'll have a look.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 21:07

diary

A lot of dates TBC. There's a Sussex Marathon too. Or you could do Brighton Marathon 10k for the atmosphere without the distance?

dementedma · 15/04/2014 21:09

Thanks polka. It does seem a long way off doesn't it. The best I ever did 5k was 32 minutes but its usually around 40 these days.
Right now, at 6 minutes, 40 seems a long way away...

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 21:16

I've done two 5ks before. My best time of 34 minutes was with no training and the morning after the night before Grin but I was young and childless then.

I think I was being too optimistic hoping for under 30 mins this time!
