Dementedma you will be there before you know it!

Polka, thank you so much! I think I am going to have to hold fire for a bit until some of the dates for 2015 are confirmed. I would love to do Brighton or London really but am just so worried about recovery afterwards. Might end up travelling eg to Manchester? Not so attractive due to travelling but if timing works..

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 21:22

Day after the marathon

This might sway you :)

PolkaSpottyDotty · 15/04/2014 21:24

working dates link

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 21:27

That is so funny! Is it very wrong that it is encouraging me rather than putting me off? I am now thinking it would not be so bad to go to work like that.. I don't have any stairs at work...Grin

zombiesheep · 15/04/2014 21:41

Wow this thread moves too fast! Yes it was my first sub-30 :o

Also on the look out for more running gear, didn't realise H&M did running stuff. Will keep a look out, I need it for the gym also!

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 21:46

Well done zombiesheep, it is such a great feeling when you break that 30 minutes!

KristinaM · 15/04/2014 21:54

I love all the run photos

Re running vests - this is what I want

Not a crew neck but not so low it shows off my hideous run bra
Not high under the arms or with thick seams so it rubs
Proper straps to hide bra straps
No little fake bra insert
Length to hip bone not waist level ( to cover squidgy bits )
Loose fitting but not sack like ( ditto)
Not black

How difficult is this????

CQ · 15/04/2014 21:55

Love that link polka

I want to do a marathon before I'm too old. Turning 48 this year so it would be good to cross it off the bucket list before I'm 50 Grin

I would love to do the London marathon but I keep thinking how hard it would be to do all the training through the winter. I need to find a nice route in August/September time I think.

I found the Loch Ness marathon - looks beautiful, and I have relatives nearby that I could stay with. But I'm guessing there wouldn't be much in the way of crowds to cheer you on especially in the early miles Hmm

Sirzy · 15/04/2014 21:56

That is pretty much my want list too. Nothing hard there surely?

Kristina, the karrimor vests in sports direct are what you want.

Theonlyoneiknow · 15/04/2014 21:58

They do ones with and ones without a built in bra

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 22:01

I have yet to find a vest that meets all those criteria sadly. I have a nice sweaty Betty one which is long but rather low cut, a Special K one which is too big... The best one yet is a Ron hill, it's not black but apart front ath is lovely, think I got it from wiggle.

CQ I am 47 this year so like you want to do it before I get too old! I actually prefer running in the winter, hate the heat so spring marathons are perfect from that perspective.

roquefortlover · 15/04/2014 22:02

from that grrr!

KristinaM · 15/04/2014 22:02

I bought a karrimor one and found it too high under the arms and with thick seams. And too short. But it least it wasn't black!!!!

It look fine on 13yo size 6 DD

Theonlyoneiknow · 15/04/2014 22:06

Odd, the one I tried on today was definitely loose under the arms and overall.

They did have different karrimor vests though so could have been a different style. Will try and find a link.

Theonlyoneiknow · 15/04/2014 22:15

Or might have been this one. The back of this one looks more like it

KristinaM · 15/04/2014 22:19

Pink one looks more promising. But isn't it short?

Not that I don't have the abs of Jessica Ennis. I'm just thinking of the rest of you......

originalpiratematerial · 15/04/2014 22:46

Gosh this thread moves fast!

orangeflutie congratulations - fantastic achievement Smile. I hope you're still buzzing and that the soreness is wearing off!

I've downloaded a half-marathon training plan and done the first three runs from it. I have just over four weeks to decide whether to enter for Run Hackney, which is on 22 June.

Any tips for the journey from 10k to half marathon gratefully received!

On a positive note, I did four miles tonight and hardly noticed it - makes me really happy when I think that six months ago I was redoing the beginner runner/couch to 5k thing!

I bought some running shorts yesterday but am not sure when I will be brave enough to wear them, but I can't run in capris when the weather gets warm. I've also bought some of those compression thingies as my right calf has been getting sore and feeling kind of congested two days after a run Hmm and I thought they might help. And I've bought a white running cap with a visor, because my head gets too hot! Spent a bloody fortune as I went to Runnersneed but it was just easier to do that Blush as pushed for time.

Sirzy · 16/04/2014 07:11

I have just got a cap to, hoping it will double up and help my glasses problem on rainy Days too

Hoping to get out for a short run this morning, find out and DS school today but only at 6pm so need to keep very busy until then

I often feel that joy ofiginalpiratematerial, it's amazing what your body can do! For building up I just added 1 or 2 miles a week to my long run and made sure I did at least one 6 miler in the week. General feeling is to train to 10 miles and to do double the race distance per week in total but I've never followed a proper plan just advice from club mates.

I think this years London marathoners have had it easy, the lady from my club who did it last year was training in snow until only a few weeks before. I think over that distance cool is certainly better! Also re age, one of my doggy running friends did it in 3:55 at 56 and there were two 80+ year olds on the BBC coverage!

Sirzy · 16/04/2014 07:17

Ye this winter has been quite good in weather still being ok to get out in - other than the wind! No snow or ice which I was dreading,

OP posts:
originalpiratematerial · 16/04/2014 07:59

Thank you cinnamongreyhound - that's really helpful. I didn't know the bit about doing double the race distance per week. My long run has tended to be on Sundays, I upped it from six miles to seven last Sunday, will aim for eight this Sunday.

The weight loss thing is weird, isn't it? It varies a lot from person to person. I have found that running makes the weight fall off me. So much so that I've added in strength training at the gym because I was just getting too weedy! I've been doing that since January and it's really helped - i feel better in myself and it's helped my running too.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/04/2014 08:08

It is, running helps for sure especially when your long run burns 1000+ calories but I could easily eat all of my running calories if I ate as I did when I was 15st! I know lots of people who run 30-40mins and think they can eat what they want all day or it just makes them hungrier so they eat a lot more!

Sirzy · 16/04/2014 08:12

Yes I could happily eat everything in sight after I hve fun for more than 30 minutes but I have to really control myself and be sensible.
