Just spoke to my mum. She will put me up for the weekend so I can do the ZSL stampede. I need to transfer some money to pay for it and then I will sign up for it tomorrow!

briteside · 24/04/2014 22:23

Oh, forgot to add that I wear a Buff hairband (Actually a cheaper rip-off version - 3 different ones for about 5 pounds at T K Maxx) to keep the hair out my face and the sweat out my eyes when I run. (Yup...stylish...that is me!!)

cardiff what running clothes did you buy? I am broke at the moment, so living vicariously Grin

Mitchy1nge · 24/04/2014 22:25

original, did you find the comparison table thing? do you still want the 110?

they are detailed and bit depressing, I think he is basically saying 'wait for the next vivo fit band because this first one is not amazing' :(

cinnamongreyhound · 24/04/2014 22:27

Let me talk to dh blatherskite, tempted now!

I've got a 110w which has a hr monitor with it, really wanted the 220 but a little bit too much for my birthday pressie.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 24/04/2014 22:30

I bought two pairs of socks. One pink pair and one grey pair. They were on a multi-but deal.
I bought some black capris. Very plain but with a little inside foley pocket thing for keys. I wore them tonight on the exercise bike and they seem okay. Only 6.99!
A vest top, quite a loose fit one. I have a tighter fit one which is Nike and it holds my boobs down nicely but it rides up over my waist band so all my saggy tummy hangs out (nice) so this is a loose top to layer over it.
And I bought a running t-shirt for 3 pounds!! I wore that on the bike this evening too though and it felt like it cost 3 pounds. I was a bit worried at one point the friction from where it was moving against my skin might cause it to spark and catch fire!!

originalpiratematerial · 24/04/2014 22:56

I did find the comparison table thing - the 220 sounds fab but I'm not sure that I can really justify the price Confused.

TessTackle · 24/04/2014 23:12

Hi everyone, I'm so sorry I deserted you all.
Well done on all the long runs and PB's. I've been absolutely shite. Have only managed one pathetic run this whole easter break, I've had no childcare at all.

Back to it from Tuesday (Monday I have a big interview and then again no childcare) and I'll be coming back for some arse kicking encouragement.

Hope you've all had a lovely Easter.

Chopstheduck · 25/04/2014 06:01

I have a green scarf headband thing that I bought years ago in Spain. I look like a running hippy! Grin

It's probably been done to death on here, so apologies but I got thinking last night about water on longer runs. I've done up to 10 miles so far and never needed it, but I'm guessing I'm not really going to be able to run much further without it. What do u all do? I really don't like the idea of carrying a bottle. Abyone use waist packs?

feetheart · 25/04/2014 09:22

Chops - I always take a handheld water bottle with me even on a short run. Partly its habit and partly because I run first thing and don't usually drink enough in the day so can often find myself thirsty.
I was certainly glad I had it during the half marathons I've done as the 'energy drink' stuff they gave out at certain points was foul - feetheart ignores all rules about trying things out before using them during a race!

Glad to see others run with short hair, I seem to be the only one at the races I've done. I tend to go for the 'sweaty and sticking out all over the place' look mostly :)

Tried Kristina's 'run a bit faster for a while' approach to improving 5k speed on my run this morning. Managed 6 x 45 sec bursts, improved my PB and now have an achy backside so I think it worked Hmm.
3.8 miles at 53.99% age-grading, not bad.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 25/04/2014 09:36

Oooh, briteside don't tempt me! (ok I'm already tempted...now to convince DH of my 'need' for a luvverly Garmin Grin )

Planning another 10kms tomo, will see how I feel, and try and get closer to 60mins. Then another buggy run with DTDs on Sunday!

Blatherskite · 25/04/2014 09:51

I can't bear to have anything in my hands when I run but I can run with a waist belt and one of those mini water bottles. I don't tend to need much water so a mini one is fine. I take nothing to races as they usually give out water on the course.

My hair is a short bob but I have an agreement with my hairdresser that it mush be just short enough to tie back. I have hair bands but they tend to annoy me more than the lose whisps.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 25/04/2014 09:59

A headband of some sort would be good too, my hilly run yesterday had sweat pouring down my (probably very red!) face!

CQ · 25/04/2014 10:40

Morning all. I'm supposed to run today but am expecting an Ikea delivery 'any time between 8 and 5' so I'm guessing that'll turn up at about 4.45. Glass half empty, moi?

Anyway we've just had the most enormous storm passing over - biblical rain, thunder and lightning - so I was extremely glad I wasn't out running at my usual time.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 110 which I used to use obsessively when training for a HM. But I got frustrated with it when I started doing more cycling, because it doesn't differentiate between running and cycling and I couldn't separate out the numbers, so it made it look like I was running huge distances - and really fast.

I read somewhere that the dashboard system has been upgraded now so maybe this is no longer a problem? I really can't justify a new one for the amount of running I'm doing right now.

Also, anyone used a Jawbone? This seems to be just a lightweight plastic wrist strap that magically monitors all your data all day and sends it to a website where you can see all your activities, calories burned etc. It probably even recognises belly dancing classes!

OMG I just decided to google it while I was in the middle of typing this, and this very day there is a review in the Telegraph.

It even monitors your sleep patterns!!

OMG I need one of these. Or do I need a Fitbit??

ConfusedConfusedConfused

briteside · 25/04/2014 10:54

degust I don't know if it is a possibility but I bought my Garmin in the US (Actually bought it from the UK but on Amazon.com and had it delivered to a US address, then collected it on a business trip). It was nearly half of the price it would be in the UK (with the HM included).

chops I have one of those water bottles with a hole in the middle, I tend to take it on every run as (like feet ) I don't seem to drink enough water in advance.

lol feet my hair keeps getting shorter, it was bob length, then I tried shorter and like it - then yesterday I had a trim and it is now verging on pixie cute. I find it so much easier!

some nice deals there cardiff I am very fussy on running tops, I have some that also ride up around my midriff and I hate them...especially as I tend to forget until I am running and having to keep pulling it down.

I need to run today and put my running clothes on first thing, but it isn't working yet - my boss just booked a meeting over my lunch time (Working from home...incase anyone thinks I am wandering around the office in lycra!!)

briteside · 25/04/2014 10:56

CQ nooooo....don't make me look at the jawbone....I don't need more gadgets!

The Garmin dashboard now allows you to differentiate between activities so you can put in cycling. Very useful, I had the opposite. I logged swimming! VERY small distances....very slowly!!!

CQ · 25/04/2014 11:00

Oh g'wan - just a little look at the linky - 'tis a thing of wonder and awe. And comes in lots of different colours Grin

briteside · 25/04/2014 11:05

ooooooh, that jawbone is lovely...I am not sure I want to know how I sleep though. With my two kids, it is no where near enough!

ThursdayConsuelaLast · 25/04/2014 11:32

See I USE the sweat to plaster the wispy bits back Grin

feetheart · 25/04/2014 11:56

I'm very low-tech - I have a £4.99 digital watch from the market with big numbers (for the visually challenged!) and a stopwatch facility and I log my runs on the Good Run Guide.
I am NOT looking at all the nice techy stuff, I need to keep my money for new running shoes and entering races. Be gone with your temptations :)

briteside - :) at pixie-cut, doubt it would work on me - too tall, too gangly, too ancient old. I'll just join Thursday in the 'sweat as hair-controlling agent' gang :o

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 25/04/2014 11:58

briteside actually a friend in the US had offered to sort that for me, but I don't think it'd be worth the risk of being slugged for tax if she posted it (even unboxed, etc.). Am tossing up whether it's worth getting it with the heart rate monitor. though am leaning towards getting it as it's very expensive to add on later.

briteside · 25/04/2014 12:14

lol at sweat as hair controlling gel, with my new shorter hair - I could go mohican...

degust I didn't think I wanted the heart rate monitor, but also thought it was going to be too expensive to add later. I actually use it all the time now, although I am not sure that I understand the zones thing very well.

I often get my Garmin beeping at me to tell me to slow down because I am exceding my maximum heart rate. I may not be fit, but I am really not pushing myself THAT hard! I can still speak while running if I gasp

Lily311 · 25/04/2014 12:21

Can I join pls?

I used to run but this stopped exactly 2 years ago when my oh passed away and I stayed alone pregnant. I moved country and DD is now 17months old, decided to take up running again.

I have a treadmill and this week I went out for an outdoor run which made me feel so good so will try to alternate the two. I'm doing the c25k, currently on week 5. I have a 5k run lined up on 11th May and half marathon in September. Looking forward to getting better at running.

briteside · 25/04/2014 12:30

Welcome lily & welcome back to running!

Sounds like you are doing well on the C25K. Which half are you doing?

Lily311 · 25/04/2014 12:39

Budapest half marathon on 14/09. I moved to Hungary exactly a year ago.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2014 12:42

Had to laugh at your post CardiffUniversityNetballTeam!

My friend has those neck/over face things to keep warm in winter that she keeps her hair out of her face chopstheduck. I don't take any water but my longest run has been hm, I do drink on race day though.

Hi Lily311! Sorry to hear your sad news, hope you can get back into running, I did the c25k just over 2 years ago.

I dropped kids at school and did 11.5 miles straight from school with a friend. Took us 1hr 50 so I'm happy. Water, tea and shower before picking them up, bloody hell I struggled to push them back up the hill slight incline home!!!
