ooooh, lily that half marathon would be beautiful...

cinnamon what an brilliant run! I wouldn't be able to walk at all after a 11.5 miler. Especially if I am not ever able to go running my shorter distances

Don't you hate it when work gets in the way of pleasure?

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2014 12:57

It sucks briteside! I can't go to training now as I work until 7 on a weds :( really not fair!

pootlebug · 25/04/2014 13:20

I'm getting lost in all the posts here!

Can't remember who asked now but I have waist belt [[http://www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-2-bottle-belt-764091?colcode=76409143]] for 2 small bottles for longer runs. They only hold 180ml each or something but it's enough to keep me going, at least in the weather we've had so far. I can forget I'm wearing it, so it's not too bulky and awkward.

Hair-wise a short crop works for me! Even if frequent washing gets it a bit dried out because it only lasts a few months before it's all lopped off it never really gets chance to get completely out of condition. I admit that might be a drastic way to solve the hair problem, but with triathlon training it's perfect as I sometimes wash it more than once a day and any need to faff around blowdrying for more than 30 seconds would drive me nuts.

I have the Garmin 110 with HRM, and a Swimsense I got off ebay for swimming, and a wireless speedo and cadence counter on my bike. Kind of wish I'd just forked out the cash for the all-singing-all-dancing triathlon garmin though!

originalpiratematerial · 25/04/2014 14:53

Six miles this morning in light rain - but despite this being my ideal running conditions I was quite slow Hmm but have rationalised this my telling myself I was trying out my HM pace Grin.

My quads and glutes are really achey. Going downstairs is a challenge, and I can't sit down without emitting a little muffled groan Blush.

originalpiratematerial · 25/04/2014 14:53

See, I don't cycle, and I don't swim - so the all-singing, all belly-dancing nature of the Garmin 220 would probably be a bit wasted on me.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 25/04/2014 15:03

I didn't know you could use the 220 for cycling! DH has a proper cycling one (which cost a lot more!)

Mitchy1nge · 25/04/2014 15:22

I use my 220 for everything when I can remember

horse, bike, dog walking, belly dancing, swimming, even in the gym with the GPS switched off (motion sensor thing is so cool!) but it's not the multi-sport watch that, say, the 620 or Fenix is

Mitchy1nge · 25/04/2014 15:24

CQ what about the garmin version of the fitbit, the vivo fit? then all the stuff is together in garmin connect (which hardly fucking works for me half the time)

just want SOMEONE to get one and say nah it's shit

really I need shelves and stuff, not another garmin gadget

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 25/04/2014 15:49

gahhh! I definitely NEED one then Grin

CQ · 25/04/2014 16:32

Oh god what's a vivo fit? Another permutation to go and look up.

Have to agree with someone who said upthread that the Garmin takes FOREVER to find a satellite. Some days I could have run for 15 mins before it finds one. Lots of trees round here. I always look like a numpty doing warmups outside my house, holding my wrist hopefully skywards Blush

So the Ikea man has finally been and gone. Dogs haven't had a proper walk today. I haven't run. I have grazed on rubbish all day. And it is STILL raining. I swear it has not let up all day. 4.30 on a wet grey cold Friday afternoon is NOT my ideal running time. Feel like having another cup of tea and hiding under the duvet instead.

CQ · 25/04/2014 16:33

Actually, I think it would be downright dangerous to venture out - there's flash flooding everywhere and I might slip and injure myself. Or break a nail or something. Hmm

briteside · 25/04/2014 16:49

lol CQ, am having the same debate. Having given up on the idea of going for a run, I spent the afternoon eating easter eggs. Now I have a chance to run and am desperately trying to find an excuse. We should just GO!

Only regret the run you didn't do...blah blah blah

Sirzy · 25/04/2014 16:53

I didn't get a run this morning (but did manage a 5k walk) and now with the weather here won't get out this evening either.

Will hppily accept cadbury egg though!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/04/2014 17:03

Come on CQ and briteside, get out!!!

My friend puts her garmin on the window ledge while she gets ready to find the satalite, not tried it myself.

Blatherskite · 25/04/2014 17:03

I've not been for a run today either. Wife in injured and needed to work through her lunch break and my intention of either going out with the rest of our group, going out alone or shredding never seemed to happen once I'd been to the Supermarket and settled myself in front of the PC :/

I have run almost every day this week though and will be running all weekend and it's raining so I'm forgiving myself :)

Blatherskite · 25/04/2014 17:04

is injured. I can't even type! Running would be downright dangerous Wink

Mitchy1nge · 25/04/2014 17:41

the 220 is always ready, the things are all pre-cached, after all that hanging round in the cold with my FR10 waiting for the signal

have had a couple of failures but there was an overdue firmware update, is ok now

Mitchy1nge · 25/04/2014 17:42

(Just saying!)

CQ · 25/04/2014 17:43

DH likes to read nerdy books about improving your brain power etc, and once told me that actually you can train for a marathon by just visualising pounding those streets.

So I am sitting here visualising my run - down the lane, round the blind bend, up the big b*tard hill……….into the woods, oooh it's muddy here, ooh look a fallen tree, through the snicket, turn right along the lane, over all the stiles, across the golf course, down the big hill - ooh slippery - cross the road, back up the really really steep hill with the bunny warrens - dragging the dogs here - back to the top of my road, slow down for last half mile, in the gate. Phew, a few stretches and I'm done.

There. Pure brainpower. And I didn't spill a drop of tea Grin

Sirzy · 25/04/2014 17:46

When I visualise runs they are always so easy. Then I go out ....

KristinaM · 25/04/2014 17:57

If you can train just by visualising, why does mo Farrah bother to run 125 miles a week?

CQ · 25/04/2014 17:59

Yeah, DH couldn't answer that one, Kris. He reads a wide range of crap interesting and specialist books Grin

KristinaM · 25/04/2014 18:02

I guess I should be grateful that my DH sticks to books on his specialist subjects. Which thankfully don't include running. Or anything I am remotely interested in .

originalpiratematerial · 25/04/2014 18:08

Grin KristinaM - yes, good question!!

(And does he really run 125 miles a week??? Fark. Here's me feeling quite chuffed with myself for running 22.5 miles this week.

Sirzy · 25/04/2014 18:15

I wonder if i visualize a nice flat stomach if I will get one?
