Cinnamon - I love the idea of a run round Norwich, I would go for that one, though I bet it is quite hilly? I'd do it if I was close enough! Medal sounds nice too Grin

Mitchy, have you tried adjusting the screws for derailleur range on your bike?

Kato, that sounds crazy. I doubt she will finish either, I'd smile nicely and leave her to it. I guess she would be best to alternate walks and runs.

I'd try not to worry about it cinnamon. People have probably seen you out and about anyway. I do most morning runs in my gym stuff, and sometimes the evening too if I have been too busy to actually make it to the shower Blush

Today is Thurs, and I love thursdays. The twins do athletics before school and have to be there for 8am, so I actually run them to school (it's just shy of a mile, and they are on scooters) as the roads are still quiet and then I carry straight on from there. The twins love it too, and are very encouraging, which usually makes for a faster pace! I then get home just as the other local mums are leaving to take their kids to school.

I've been lurchered this morning! Dozy dog ran straight into me :( now sitting with ice on my knee worrying about her! My breathing was fine but my friend is back from Florida so was at a slower pace. Hoping my knee doesn't stop me doing my long run tomorrow. It hurts now I'm icing it but it was find when I ran, she did it in the first mile.

pootlebug · 24/04/2014 07:25

intrigued brother Galloway method - has anyone tried it and compared to 'normal' training?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/04/2014 07:26

X-post chopstheduck! I guess it probably is but at Neots had a few hills too. What puts me off Norwich is that it's 2 laps and goes through the show ground twice but my friend who did it last year said that was a nice bit as there was lots of support!

pootlebug · 24/04/2014 07:27

oh no, cinnamon, hope the knee is better quickly!

didn't feel like running th is morning and still didn't really get into it until the last mile or so, but forced myself to do hills and feel better for it.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/04/2014 07:27

st Neots, blimmin autocorrect!

EauRouge · 24/04/2014 07:55

Argh, hope your knee is better soon. If you guys run at St Neots I'll come and cheer you on, it's only down the road from me.

There are hills in Cambridgeshire- there's even a park in my village where I could do hill training. I mean, I could. I really should one of these days.

KristinaM · 24/04/2014 08:14

Looks nasty , Cinnimon. Did the Ice work?

Chopstheduck · 24/04/2014 09:46

Cinnamon

ow that looks sore! Hopefully it is just surface bruising.

Hmm the showground twice. That is a little offputting. I've googled the route and I think I have changed my mind now! There are so many NICER places around Norwich to run. Earlham park would be nicer than the showground.

I had a lovely 8 mile run this morning, really enjoyed it. New PB for 10k too I think. All those gym classes over winter must have paid off!

Sirzy · 24/04/2014 09:50

Managed to get out this morning only did 2.5k BUT it was non stop 2.5k no walking at all which is a big improvement for me. 6 min 45 per km average too.

Ouch cinnamon, hope that gets better soon!

Mitchy, you have just made me lol in the office at the belly-dancing/Garmin episode Grin.

I did a four-mile trot before work this morning, forgot to switch off Endonomondo because someone called me just as I was approaching the end of my run and that distracted me Grin. It was a bit of a plod anyway, some days my brain is willing but my legs are weak. And some days it's all weak.

originalpiratematerial · 24/04/2014 10:08

Sirzy well done, that sounds good.

Chopstheduck · 24/04/2014 10:15

that looks gorgeous. And garlic?! Where are you?

EauRouge · 24/04/2014 10:20

I'm guessing she means wild garlic, I have some in my garden but it's disappointingly non-stinky. I wonder if it would still taste garlicky....

I've been doing some strength training. It's boring and I hate it but I think avoiding it is why I got injured in the first place. Don't skive off strength training!

Mitchy1nge · 24/04/2014 10:25

ouch poor cinnamon - is dog ok?

can I fiddle with the derailleur myself without wrecking the whole system? no no

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 24/04/2014 10:28

Ouch, Cinnamon ! hope it's better quickly

I'm doing a fast day today, & intending a short 5km run this evening, so I expect to be a bit slower than usual.

Itsaboatjack · 24/04/2014 10:44

Well I am now a born again runner Grin

I did 4.5 miles this morning in 44 mins. I've found a quiet enough route via back streets up to the canal and I run along there. I couldn't find my headphones this morning, which unfortunately meant I could hear a few derogatory comments from the group of youths coming out of their hostel, and the bum on the bench slurring 'fat' at me on the way past.

I used to be a fairly regular runner, I started about 9 years ago in an effort to lose the baby weight after my first dd. I managed to get a place in the GNR and so trained for that, finishing in 2hr4mins.

Since then I have done 2 marathons, 4 half marathons and numerous 10k's, which is by far my prefered distance. But my goal though is to do a sub 4hr marathon, so hopefully if my training goes to plan I will have a good crack at it in Paris next year. I have done London twice, the first time I was really well trained, fit, good weight and felt quite positive that it was a possibility. Unfortunately I made the rookie error of setting off too fast, did the first half in 1hr 46mins, then smashed into the wall at about 17 miles. I stopped to go to the toilet and then just sat down at the side of the road and didn't think I was going to get up again. Did manage to get up and walked for about a mile, still thinking I was only going to make it home by taxi, but luckily I'd been told to make sure I put my name on my top and the crowd got me to the finish line, finishing in 4hrs 21mins and 20s. Then found out a week later I was pregnant. Second time I did it was 2 years later, training hadn't gone smoothly, dificult with a 1 year old and being back at work full time, I was not fit enough, about 2 stone heavier than when I ran before. So I decided that I would just enjoy the atmosphere, pace myself and get round in one piece. I ran nice and steady, my half way split was exactly half the time, and I finished in 4hrs 21mins and 4s, beating my previous time by a massive 16 seconds.

Hope I've haven't bored you all too much there but just thought I'd share my story with you all a little bit.

Hope everyone has a good day, and your knee gets better soon cinnamon

Sirzy · 24/04/2014 11:22

yes wild garlic.

feetheart · 24/04/2014 11:46

Cinnamon - ouch, ouch, ouch.

Ohone - I'd be up for the Bedford Half and definitely want to do the Luton Half in October - missed the inaugural one last year as I had another commitment and spent most of the day sulking :)

Kato - I'm with Kristina, I think your friend is bonkers but sometimes people have to find this out for themselves Hmm

How many of us are doing the Whipsnade Zoo Stampede? Must be a few threads ago that it was mentioned so not sure if everyone on here who is local ish knows about it.

I seem to have just volunteered to be training buddies with a friend's DH who is running the BUPA London 10k. No idea how much of a runner he is and I always run on my own so it should be interesting.

No running today as DH was up and out early and I have too much work on to justify a daytime run. Looks lovely out there though :(

Blatherskite · 24/04/2014 12:42

I'm doing the Zoo Stampede feetheart.

Thursday isn't a pre school day for DD so no running for me until tonight. Going to do intervals in the hope of being fast enough at the OU relay next week that Running Wife doesn't totally kick my arse :)

briteside · 24/04/2014 15:27

cinnamon your knee looks painful! Is the swelling going down at all?

sirzy what a gorgeous route, probably prettier without the smell Grin

I had a terrible run yesterday - I had to stop twice with calf cramps....having done some hill work on holiday, I had hoped that I would find the flat route easier!

I have a not-really-running related question though...those of you that run often, what hair products do you use? I have to wash my hair after every run (I turn into a sweaty-mess, plus my hair is short so I can't just tie it up in a pony-tail to hide it) and I think that washing my hair nearly every day is making it dry & brittle. I just had a haircut and the hairdresser commented on it (Again, she commented last time too!)

briteside · 24/04/2014 15:28

sorry - forgot to add a well done to Sirzy, that is a great run and a very respectable pace too!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/04/2014 17:36

Good running chopstheduck, sirzy and originalpiratematerial!

What do you mean cheer us on EauRouge? I'm sure you mean keep us company!

Hi Itsaboatjack!!

I was told by my hairdresser to put a thick conditioner on my hair put a shower cap on and leave it for 20mins briteside as mine is apparently weathered.

Thanks for all your sympathy! Dog was ok while out, chased a rabbit like a loon but has been very quiet since. She's also limping but not sure of that's from crashing into me or chasing the rabbit. I think the lump is smaller but it's quite sore and feels very stiff if I stay in the same position too long, hoping it will be ok for my long run tomorrow!
