April 30 day shred anyone?

I hope there isn't already a thread, had a look & could only find the March one. I have it on good authority that Tesco have the DVD for a fiver - I'm off to spend some club card points so that I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow!

I've also taken a 'before' photo (eek!) so that I can marvel at my transformation at the end of it if the shred doesn't kill me first

Who's with me?!

Up to L3D5 but have slowed down the rate I'm doing it - only twice in the past 7 days.

But, I have just been for a run for the first time in over a month (I started shredding as an alternative to running when the weather got really wet) and was pleasantly surprised at how my fitness has held up. Several minutes off my PB for 5K but managed it without having to stop.

Now plan to run 2-3 times a week and shred on the other days - not sure I'll manage that but may as well set a challenging goal. Doing 5K Race for Life on 8 June so need to be ready for that.

Good luck to everyone starting out in April Smile

sunshiny - well done - stick with it and it will get easier and you will see and feel results. Muscular aches tell you that you will be getting stronger.

One other thing to mention - do take at least one or two rest days a week - you need some recovery time. (I always take the weekends off from shredding/ripping.)

Sorelip · 01/04/2014 18:21

I'm in. I did it a few times last month but not regularly. Did level 1 today, which DS found hilarious. It was so cute when he tried to imitate me doing press ups Smile

yadahyadah · 01/04/2014 18:41

So all you serial Shredders out there, do you finish one program of 30 days and then move on to either the same thing again or another JM program? Interested to know - now that I am on day 15 and all (puff, strut) what happens when it ends. What seems to suit me is the short intensive burst of daily exercise. Are JM's other offerings timed like this one?

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2014 18:45

yadah - yes, I either did shred again or ripped in 30 (which has similar format/timing but somewhat harder moves after L1). Quite often the timing was such that I had a break in between - eg summer hols or xmas (if there were a few days to go before the hols I'd just carry on with the same one a few extra)

NotGoodNotBad · 01/04/2014 18:47

yadah, After doing level 3 Shred I started with RippedIn30 - all the levels are on YouTube. There are others of hers on there too, did Shred with Weights today, but mostly only Level 1 is on YouTube for the others. Still, you can have a go and see what you fancy and get the DVDs if you fancy the other levels. Some of the workouts are 25-30 min, others are longer (haven't tried the longer ones).

I tend not to do the same one over and over for 6 days, I'd get bored. I might do it for 4 days and something different for the other 2 days.

PhDmummy · 01/04/2014 18:53

If you are using My Fitness Pal, what do you put the Shred as in the exercise section? Gearing up to do day 1 once DD asleep!

Clarabumps · 01/04/2014 18:56

Can I join. Can I start tomorrow as I've had a glass of wine and may spew if I do jumping jacks?

NomDeClavier · 01/04/2014 19:06

I need to buy this. I'm signing in as motivation!

IdkickJilliansAss · 01/04/2014 19:14

I'd put the shred in fitness pal as general circuit training in the cardio section

PhDmummy · 01/04/2014 19:24

Thanks IdkickJilliansAss

mmack · 01/04/2014 20:07

L1D1 Shred done this morning. I hope I can walk tomorrow.

sunshinysummer · 01/04/2014 20:24

Mmak-I found stairs the worst!

Just finished L1D3. Quite impressed that it didn't hurt too much whilst actually doing it considering how much pain I've been in today! I spent a long time stretching afterwards so hoping that pays off.

Thanks for the motivation Errol-will definitely factor in some rest days-I imagine the starting again will be more difficult!

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 01/04/2014 20:42

Errol - so it's not actually meant to be done in 30 days then? I thought you HAD to do 10 days of each level without any days off Blush

On a side note - OW OW BLOODY OWWW!!

What do you wear to shred in?

And is it ok to go barefoot if exercising on a rug / mat?

Finally, do you all wear a complete new set of clothes to workout every day? I'll fess up, I don't - enough washing as it is and I figure I'm indoors on my own when exercising so it's fine to recycle the clothes the next day. Anyone else do that?

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 01/04/2014 20:57

L1 D3 this evening, I can almost finish the push-ups on the easy level, and have no problem doing everything else...I don't feel quite ready for level 2 though yet... I really feel as though I should be doing proper push-ups

Going to do a 5k run tomorrow afternoon and gym Thursday so probably won't do D4 until Friday. I'm finding it fitting quite well around my other training and 5:2 Smile

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 01/04/2014 20:57

Oh I forgot to add, I have done it barefoot but my ankles don't really appreciate it. Confused

RunningKatie · 01/04/2014 20:58

stuckinamiddle - if the curtains are closed I wear a sports bra and leggings!

I have a wooden floor so always wear trainers as it's agony on the legs.

Not shredded today, hurt my neck last week and then again at the weekend so today done a 6 or so mile bike ride. Happy with that.

NotGoodNotBad · 01/04/2014 20:58

I wear old crap to shred in. Grin Shorts that I wouldn't wear in public, old t-shirts, plus sports bra. I sweat a lot and do wash top + sports bra every day, they are quite pongy after.

I feel the need for trainers as there's quite a bit of jumping around.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 01/04/2014 20:59

I only tend to put my runs into my fitness pal, I use it primarily just for the food diary

Chuckthefucklebrothers · 01/04/2014 21:14

I wore My Little Pony pj bottoms & a sports bra to shred in this morning. Stylish! Think I'll add trainers to the ensemble tomorrow to avoid making my front room carpet smell of feet

stuckindamiddle due to the highly attractive amount of sweating I tend to do in these workouts, I wear any old shit I can find that is comfy plus a sports bra and trainers. Generally I tend towards run or yoga leggings as track pants are a bit too heavy when the going gets tough. When I started, tho, I did not wear trainers, coz I've read about the benefits of barefoot running and all that, but very soon I realised, I needed the support of a good pair of runners.

That makes it sound as tho my wardrobe is teeming with all-stations-go sportswear, but it is not. I rotate my single pairs of run/yoga/random maternity leggings

Errolthedragon & notgoodnotbad - Ta for the tips on follow ons. I shall check em out.

montymum · 01/04/2014 21:34

Just completed day 1 level 1 ds decided he didn't need a nap today so first opportunity was once he was in bed. Work day tomorrow so alarm set for 6.20 to get it done before work. I always wear trainers as my knees hurt if I don't. I also wear shorts and a sports top with sports bra. Good luck with day 2 everyone.

PhDmummy · 01/04/2014 21:54

Just done day one, level one - ouch, ouch, ouch. The thought of doing it again tomorrow is not appealing!

masquerade · 01/04/2014 22:26

Day 4 done! I can't believe I just did exercise at 9pm.

I was surprised when I tentatively got out of bed this morning to find I was actually pain free, I thought having 2 days off between days 2 and 3 would mean really sore muscles again, but not at all.

Is it crazy to say I already feel like I'm improving, the only part I really struggled with this evening was the second lot of jumping jacks/jump rope in the first circuit; even the side lunges/arm raises felt easier today. Is that possible after 4 days?

My only concern is my shins, they were a little sore during yesterdays shred and worse today, the right one is still aching a little now and I finished 40 minutes ago.

I wear leggings, 2 bras (because I don't have a sports bra that fits well!), a vest and some cheap Lonsdale trainers - I might need to invest in better footwear if the shin pain continues. I shred in my front room with the curtains firmly shut!

Well done everyone.
