It's OK Blathers I did know that I had to run with DS (and pick him up when he tumbled, and walk with him when he wanted to walk) He still beat me in the sprint finish though, as always :)
We managed it in 32:27 and 32:30 respectively and had a lovely time. He was plotting how to get his 10 shirt in the car on the way home and wants gymnastics to be cancelled again next week Hmm
Lovely to share chat, cake and drinks with OhOne as well.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/07/2014 17:35

I did run today standingonlego :) 45 now but I'm RD next week so will be two before I get my next one. Was very warm today and didn't go for it so managed 29:26. We had a few newbies who were actually local to us and not on holiday at centre parcs!

MelanieCheeks · 26/07/2014 17:36

Good runs all round, it seems!

The weather was kind here - it clouded over, though it was still warm, but none of the forecast rain, and no wind. But I had to run without my dog (she has a sick note due to kennel cough), so I knew it'd be a slow one. 31:06. But no walking, no shin splints, no bad ankle niggles, so that's all good.

I tried not to get annoyed at a girl in front of me who kept walking, then I'd overtake, then she'd run past me and slow to a walk again. But I know everyone runs their own race.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/07/2014 18:08

It was lovely to meet feetheart and mini-feet. I took maxi-OhOne with me, who PB'd. Midi-OhOne was poorly in the night and stayed in bed instead. I was slower than ever, I must get these injuries sorted out.

Melanie I had one of those annoying people too Grin

On Holiday here, been to the King's Lynn parkrun and managed sub 30!! 29m 28s so I'm really really pleased with that!! Mini Kimmi has a Thomas the Tank day out next Saturday, and I've managed to book a hotel in Bolton near the Bolton parkrun! And my parents are coming too (babysitters!!)

I can remember my first few parkruns and cant believe how addictive it is and now trying to fit in new ones!! I'm on 33 runs in 6 different locations!!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2014 09:26

Well done karatekimmi! You were not far from me doing kings Lynn :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/07/2014 10:22

Well done kimmi - what is King's Lynn like? Easy to find? We will be between Sheringham and King's Lynn in a couple of weeks and I haven't decided which one to go to. The advantage to Sheringham is that we've been there lots of times before so I hopefully won't get lost like I did going to MK and Northampton.

Have heard the hill at sheringham is a killer!

Blatherskite · 27/07/2014 10:36

Apologies for the rant. I went to Aylesbury parkrun a few weeks ago and had to chase down some guy who I overheard telling his 7 year old daughter to not try to keep up with Daddy and he'd see her at the end before tearing off leaving her running on her own. I caught up with him, told him he couldn't do that and his excuse was that it was her 5th parkrun! When I got to the end, I spoke to the RD who is a friend of mine and he admitted that the man should have known better as he was a regular volunteer.

Some people are so selfish Sad

standingonlego · 27/07/2014 10:46

Lovely stories from the weekend - great to hear about the minis running :)

45 done...am about to book camping for next week, might have to be influenced by parkrun location for a cheeky tourist visit ...

karatekimmi · 27/07/2014 20:41

Staying with inlaws so my DH knew where the park was, we parked in a multi-storey and walked to the park. It's a nice course, Tarmac paths round the park, but 3 flat laps, although you can always see people. Being a slow coach I got lapped, but also managed to lap one or two people. The people there were friendly.

I thought you were fairly close cinnamon but I couldn't persuade the others to drive far!!

standingonlego · 27/07/2014 21:49

OK...my cunning parkrun tourism plan is destined to fail as we will be packing up the tent and stuff at the end of our camping trip to Devon. Do not think i will be able to sneak off to Barnstable without DH noticing on that day!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2014 22:04

My friend used to do kings Lynn before our started as it was our closest then.

You see you've not planned well enough there standingonlego, our Hols are fri to fri so will be well and truely settled by Saturday morning Wink

standingonlego · 27/07/2014 22:08

And that means you get to run 46 first cinnamon Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2014 22:15

I'm RD this week so 46 will be 9th aug for me my holiday run is 23rd :)

standingonlego · 27/07/2014 22:18

Back to even stevens then Wink

Blatherskite · 28/07/2014 09:08

If you're going to Barnstaple, leave plenty of time to find it Lego. The postcode given takes you to a leisure centre car park but it's a 10 minute run from there to the start! I ended up missing it the time I tried to run there. It put me off tourism for ages. Thankfully, now I'm over that :)

feetheart · 28/07/2014 23:25

Didn't see it as a rant Blathers, sensible advice that's worth repeating especially with idiots around!
All this talk of holiday parkruns has had DS and I looking for one for us to do - looks like it's Chichester for us in August :)

cinnamongreyhound · 29/07/2014 15:37

A couple who I run with on my doggy runs and who belong to my club left their 9 year old to run on his own this week, I feel in a horrible position now :( they left Saturday before I could catch them but I don't think people realise that they could potentially jeopardise parkrun for everyone. Dh has suggested I make a general announcement at the start but then they might feel I should have come to them privately?

MelanieCheeks · 29/07/2014 16:05

I'd go with a general announcement, maybe add in a couple of other "rules" like dogs on short leads, emphasising that saftey is of paramount concern.

Blatherskite · 29/07/2014 16:17

That's a relief feetheart. After the incident with the little girl, it occurred to me that even those who should know the rules sometimes don't so I figured it was worth repeating.

Personally, in your situation, I'd do both cinnamon. The rule should be repeated in the pre-race brief imo so that no-one has the "but I didn't know" excuse but if we spot anyone at MK doing it, we do go and have a private word too. Sometimes it's parents who don't run who have in effect 'dropped off' their small child to run and then gone to meet them at the end so they hadn't heard and sometimes, they had just not heard or ignored the rule so needed it repeating to them. People doing this could indeed get their parkrun shut down so it's an important rule which needs to be heeded.

karatekimmi · 29/07/2014 20:02

I don't know what it is like at your parkruns, but at the ones I've been to, it's been difficult or impossible to hear the brief. I start at the back with mini kimmi and just clap when others do. I'd have a word individually.

LottaMarten · 30/07/2014 08:47

Morning everyone.. I completed couch to 5k a few weeks ago and have been doing a few Couch to 5k Plus sessions on the NHS podcasts (stamina, speed etc)... Think I might attempt my first park run on Saturday in Edinburgh. Am a bit nervous! I have registered, got my bar codes Smile.

But what time should I turn up? What is the briefing? Do I have to say I am a newbie? Will some people run slower than me? Will I stick out like a sore thumb? bites nails

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2014 09:09

Hi LottaMarten! You can look at the results page for your local parkrun to see finishing times of last week, a lot of parkruns have a tail runner so you won't be last (can check this on volunteer rosters from same page).
When I'm rd I do a call for newbies be it to parkrun totally or just to ours at 8.50 and have a chat, we then walk to the start and I do a pre-run brief to everyone at 8.55 to start as close to 9 as possible. I have aimed for 8.30-8.40 arrival when I've been to other parkruns but we went to mulbarton a few weeks ago and at 8.25 when we arrived they were just getting signs out!!!! It's a 3 3/4 lap course so not very far to furthest point to put signs out and get marshals to their positions.
Congrats on completing c25k and enjoy your parkrun :)
Edinburgh do have a tail runner and slowest last week was 57mins
