Looks like it might be a wet one this week!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/05/2014 21:31

God that sounds punishing, cinnamon! Well done to you and greyhound, what an achievement!

RedHatNoDrawers · 08/05/2014 09:52

I can't do it this week, but I'm already looking forward to next!

Blatherskite · 08/05/2014 15:48

It's looking like this weeks bit of parkrun tourism might be Leamington Spa. Anyone done it?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/05/2014 20:43

I found I had something in my eye today when I read the "parkrunner of the week bit of the newsletter, especially

" How has parkrun changed your running : I had never tried going for a time in my wheelchair before and using my everyday wheelchair was very tough and I was not getting any faster than 42 minutes on my own. Then my Dad applied to a wheelchair charity to get me one of their new athletics ‘flying start’ wheelchairs and I was really lucky to be selected to receive one. It’s amazing! I now complete parkrun in under 27 minutes and feel brilliant."

I never read that far down. How amazing, parkrun truly is for everyone!

Standingonlego · 10/05/2014 01:45

i read that too OhOne so lovely.

I am getting my parkrun excuses in early as agreed to take a friends 2*DS to hockey training with my boys so will not be able to make it.Lucky this favour has coincided with me staggering home just now after Wine

Standingonlego · 10/05/2014 01:45

Blush hic Blush

EATmum · 10/05/2014 09:01

I'm frustrated not to be able to Parkrun today. My DH works lots of Saturdays, and our DDs need taking to drama etc at exactly the wrong times. But I'll be back next week ... and maybe then the sun will be shining again!

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 10/05/2014 09:15

No parkrun for me. I could as I'm not required for lifts today, but my ankle which has been hurting between runs is now hurting all the time. :(

Morrigu · 10/05/2014 09:25

No parkrun for me either as my ankles have been giving me jip too YeGods Have you saw a physio? Ours is having a special Giro d'Italia day too as the cycling race is here today.

Good luck to all participating and volunteering today!

AmberNectarine · 10/05/2014 10:14

Just did my first Parkrun! Not an amazing time, 31 something I think, but it was so muddy I was just glad not to have stacked it. And I didn't come last which was my main concern!!

Standingonlego · 10/05/2014 14:22

Congratulations Amber - that is a fab time especially in muddy conditions :) Hope you enjoyed it.

I was quite surprised when i saw my post from last night Blush. And a bit puzzled when walked out of house with keys in hand with 2 small folk in to tow to get into the car - then realised it was still parked outside my friends house as I had got a cab home.Queue a dash on skooters to collect it!

Blatherskite · 10/05/2014 14:54

Yay Amber! Welcome to the parkrun family :)

I went to Leamington parkrun today. They were soooo friendly, it was wonderful. We were wondering on the drive over at what point leaving at 7am to drive for an hour just to run 5k became something that seemed normal though Grin

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 15:32

Good run amber . Careful or soon you will be addicted

010203 -thanks for spotting that story in the newsletter, I had missed it too. So inspiring

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 15:33

Oops forgot to say, volunteering today. Finish tokens, which is always hectic but fun .

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2014 16:14

One of our RD's is on holiday this week and she's posted on fb that she went to the local parkrun so not quite the same kind of tourism as you blatherskite but still tourism!

Well done AmberNectarine!

We had a few holiday makers today, it's quite usual as we're very close to a centre Parcs. Everyone was very complimentary! Results took ages today to be posted so I freaked out a bit. Boys were very good and everything went smoothly, apart from the dongle not being with the laptop so I had to come home and use my wifi to process results!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2014 16:15

Also meant to say, sorry for those with sore bits and hectic lives! Everyone in my house knows Saturday mornings are parkrun time so we pretty much never plan anything!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/05/2014 19:05

Grin lego

Wel done Amber, you know what you'll be doing every Saturday at 9am now don't you Grin?

Yay for tourism Blathers Smile

Glad your RD'ing went well cinnamon Smile

Hope your sore bits feel better soon Morrigu and YeGods Smile

Thank you for volunteering Kristina Smile

No parkrunning for me either, I had a tutorial today. And I had to have an x-ray yesterday to rule out a stress fracture of one of the bones on my left foot (x-ray looked OK but apparently they can be hard to see) and am on ice and rest until the results are back to the GP in a few days. I no longer want to saw my foot off with the pain, so am hoping for the best.

I've only been running for two weeks but can run 5k slowly so really fancy doing my local parkrun but I'm so nervous! My worst nightmare would be coming last, although I hear that doesn't really matter for pr. I'd also need to arrange childcare for DS while I run - no mean feat for 9am on a Saturday morning Smile.

Does anyone on here do any of the Sheffield parkruns?

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 10/05/2014 21:13

By the way, what are RD's and ED's? They're mentioned a lot on here.

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 21:40

Kitty -the last people at Sheffield Hallam are usually about 40 minutes.

I know it's easy to say " no one will mind if you are last " but I understand that it might bother you. So why don't you just wait a couple of weeks or so until you can be sure of running the 5km in under 40 mins? If you go out 3 times a week you will get faster very quickly.

Lots of people at Parkrun jog and walk. All the super fast people get ahead right at the beginning, so you end up running surrounded by people doing about the same speed at you. Everyone is very encouraging, honestly. Especially someone here friendly like Sheffield Smile

Rd = run director

KristinaM · 10/05/2014 21:41

I mean somewhere ( autocorrect fail )

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2014 21:41

RD run director, person in charge of the parkrun in the day and the week leading up to it arranging volunteers.

ED event director, person in charge of the whole parkrun, includes organising t-shirts, deciding on monthly prize winner, keeping paperwork up to date and making sure there is an RD every week :)

cinnamongreyhound · 10/05/2014 21:43

This may or may not help but check your local parkruns volunteer rota, if there's a tail runner that week you definitely won't be last. Our last lady got a pb this week and got a massive cheer over the line :)
