Starting the next thread for all those doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
For those having problems with their knees on the higher impact activities here are some suggestions from TalkinPeace:

^The secret is to build up the teeny muscles that support the side of the patella:

LOTS of balancing and yoga

  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, knees slightly bent, lift one foot off the floor, close eyes and see how long you can hold, repeat to other side.
  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, up onto tiptoes with legs straight, close eyes for as long as you can
  • stand on one foot, move the other foot to the front, side, back, side, in smooth semicircles about two inches off the floor - five each way each side before resting.

Alternative to skipping : march on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can.
Alternative to running : walk at jogging pace, pumping arms up to ceiling
Alternative to jumping jacks : half jacks, pump arms alternate sides and ceiling.^

Oh and I use 2kg and 4kg weightsGrin

Lindt70Percent · 27/02/2014 14:03

D2 of 6W6P done.

I am aching a bit after yesterday, which I think is a good sign. Feeling it in my inner thighs, bum and middle back (hope it's okay to ache here). Could also feel it in my abs while working out today.

I have to say I feel fantastic straight afterwards and it does make my tummy go very flat. Measured myself straight afterwards as felt so good and my waist was 1cm less than at the start of the week (I don't think I'm kidding myself). Clothes are feeling nice and loose.

You have to be very coordinated to follow this DVD and I don't think I've got the hang of all of it yet.

It's good and I'm enjoying it at the moment but I'm not sure how I'll cope with 3 weeks of each level without getting terribly bored. Aiming to do 5 sessions a week.

Also, despite having 2 bars of 70% in my fridge since yesterday morning I have not broken into them yet. Grin I got as far as holding one bar in my hands and then put it back. This is probably helping too!

LeonardoAcropolis · 27/02/2014 16:31

hello! I posted last week with my weight- loss (or not as in my case) woes and I am pleased to report that I have lost 1lb Grin

Currently L3D3 and I am enjoying it. I have Jillian's Burn Fat build metabolism (or something) on it's way from Amazon. Has anyone tried it?

I use 1k and 2k weights.

StuntNun · 27/02/2014 19:54

Thanks Spinning I lost my excess weight last year on the MN Bootcamp so now I'm trying to work on my fitness.

L3D3 done (I had a day of yesterday because I was in the pub). Today was really tough but DH reckons that's because any damage done by the first two days won't have healed yet.

How do you know when to move on to level 2? Is it just when it stops being sore the next day?

2tiredtocare · 27/02/2014 20:29

D2 of 6wk6p done, I feel really good after doing it too Lindt I have bought a bar if 85% choc but have yet to try it in case it's gross!

Lindt70Percent · 27/02/2014 22:23

StuntNun - Hi. I really ached until day 4 or 5 of the Shred. The first 2 levels made a big difference to me, but I don't think level 3 suited me. I did each level for 10 days just because I told myself I'd do 10 days of each but this did feel about right for me. I think once you're getting bored and finding it all quite easy then it's time to move on to the next level.

Keep going, you'll be glad you did!

2tiredtocare, it's really good to hear how you're getting on. I think my back's aching from the superman-swimmy movements but I think it's a good pain rather than I'm doing myself damage. I can't do the side plank bits either as they really hurt my hips. I need to find something else to do while that bit's going on. Missing Natalie and Anita, I don't feel as connected to the two in 6W6P! Grin

LakeFlyPie · 27/02/2014 22:40

Evening Shredders (and others!)

No Shred today as went for a swim instead, back on it tomorrow.

Well done on the weight loss Leonardo, I have a copy of BFBM but after reading the Amazon reviews I ordered Ripped in 30 which I haven't done either yet

spinningirl10 · 28/02/2014 07:46

Ri30 D10 L2 doneGrin

Stunt....well done on weight loss, good luck toning.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2014 10:50

Ri30 L1D4 done.

Nightwish · 28/02/2014 11:57

Ri30 L1D5 done.
Away visiting family this weekend so won't be able to do any tomorrow but hoping to fit it in when I get home on Sunday.

Nightwish · 28/02/2014 11:57

Oh and I did by my first full set of full push ups!
Only the first set... but I did it.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2014 12:31

Nighwish - fantastic! (EnvyGrin)

spinningirl10 · 28/02/2014 12:42

Night wish.....well done on the push ups Grin

Just realised I haven't taken my measurements since before my holiday! Must do them tomorrow!!

Lindt70Percent · 28/02/2014 14:10

6W6P L1D3 done! Really getting into the swing of it now and still enjoying it.

Well done on the push ups nightwish!

2tiredtocare · 28/02/2014 17:18

6w6p L1 D3 done, still loving it but I agree with you lindt about not feeling the same connection with the other girls as with N and A, that Bashira is a machine though, does she even break a sweat?! Plus I tried my 85% choc and it was foul

ErrolTheDragon · 28/02/2014 17:57

Bashira is on Ri30 with Shelley - I like them better than N&A, B seems to actually be enjoying it.

Each to their own with chocolate I guess - the stronger stuff is perhaps an acquired taste.

2tiredtocare · 28/02/2014 18:05

My DH loved the 85% he must have a more sophisticated palette, dont tell him I said that though Grin I think i'm jealous of Bashira's stamina!

WillColbert · 28/02/2014 19:17

Forgot to update yesterday but D5L4 of Ri30 done.

StuntNun · 28/02/2014 20:25

L1D4 I'm getting better at this I think, but still a bit sore, especially during the squats. My press ups are completely hopeless, even girly press ups, so DH wants me to start doing bench presses to build up the muscles. Does anyone else find the workout gets easier towards the end? I find the middle cardio section tough but I fly through the final cardio and abs ready for more.

spinningirl10 · 01/03/2014 09:06

Ri30 D11 L2 doneGrin

Will.....you've nearly finished!!! Have you enjoyed it, can you see changes?

Stunt.....it does get easier as you progress and your body gets stronger

StuntNun · 01/03/2014 09:50

I'm less sore this morning than I was pre-shred yesterday Spinning so I'm about to do L1D5 as soon as I've finished the ironing!

2tiredtocare · 01/03/2014 11:42

D4 L1 6w6p done, might shred tomorrow as I still want to complete it, I will becon D9 of L2 and feel like I have a good break from the monotony of doing the same thing day in day out. I'll definately need to use the thread to keep a track or it could get confusing

spinningirl10 · 01/03/2014 17:39

Hey ladies.....don't forget to come and join the March shred thread!! Sorry can't link as I'm in my phone!

Nightwish · 02/03/2014 17:34

March Thread

yadahyadah · 18/03/2014 10:56

You guys seem so motivated to be doing this workout a few months after having had babies. Amazing. I was wedded to large boxes of bics and mugs of anything caffeinated in the aftermaths of my 3 much to my own horror. However, drumroll this morning I did the first day of L1 and was really into it. And having read all the positive results on this thread I am going to stick to it in the hope that I will be feeling good for summer. What size weights is good to use tho? Do not want to add bulk (nosireebob) but feel the baked beans cans are a bit too lightweight.
