Starting the next thread for all those doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred - Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3.
For those having problems with their knees on the higher impact activities here are some suggestions from TalkinPeace:

^The secret is to build up the teeny muscles that support the side of the patella:

LOTS of balancing and yoga

  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, knees slightly bent, lift one foot off the floor, close eyes and see how long you can hold, repeat to other side.
  • stand with feet 6 inches apart, up onto tiptoes with legs straight, close eyes for as long as you can
  • stand on one foot, move the other foot to the front, side, back, side, in smooth semicircles about two inches off the floor - five each way each side before resting.

Alternative to skipping : march on the spot, bringing your knees up as high as you can.
Alternative to running : walk at jogging pace, pumping arms up to ceiling
Alternative to jumping jacks : half jacks, pump arms alternate sides and ceiling.^

Flock - running before doing level 3?! You must be very fit!!

I think I plan to cycle in my cardio days. I don't find JM cardio hard but the strength and abs stuff kills me. And that's level one!

WillColbert · 18/02/2014 10:28

D2L4 of Ri30 done. Travelling around a bit at the moment so not managing to do every day. Enjoying this level although it is very hard. Love it at the end when Jillian say 'Give yourself a giant round of applause - because that was badass!'

Welcome oohdaddypig. I try to do 5 days a week with 2 rest days. Hope you're getting on ok with the first few days - I found them quite tough on the shoulders.

Tiredemma · 18/02/2014 10:45

I cant wait to do Ri30. Went back to the start of Shred because I had missed a few days (about a week)- currently on L2 D5

Nightwish · 18/02/2014 11:22

Ri30 L1D3 done.
Feels like I have done it way more than that but I think it is because of alternating with KB&T. I find it helps me stay motivated changing them up everyday.

oohdaddypig · 18/02/2014 14:12

What is kb and t?

Do most folk do shred then RI30? What about after that?!

Well I have taken my measurements - eek - will report back on any success!

2tiredtocare · 18/02/2014 15:56

Killer buns and thighs

2tiredtocare · 18/02/2014 15:56

There is extreme shred and shed

Lindt70Percent · 18/02/2014 16:52

L3D8 done today. I really don't think level 3 is right for me as anything that's supposed to help my abs just hurts my hips and back. I think my core is fundamentally weak and I need to focus on this more before I can do some of the L3 stuff. Anyway, I will do the last two sessions because I need to know I've done ten of each level - purely psychological, it makes no logical sense. I'm toying with the idea of buying Ri30 as it seems to be the thing that most people move onto next. However I already have 6 pack in 6 weeks and my financial, sensible side says I should do that first.

Tiredemma · 18/02/2014 20:39

So L2 D5 done.

Im shaking like a shitting dog.

oohdaddypig · 18/02/2014 21:17

Tiredemma Grin

Day 2 of 30DS done. The shoulder stuff kills me. WTF. And that is with 2.5 kg weight.

I'm off to eat spinach.

LakeFlyPie · 19/02/2014 08:25

Just checking in after few days off. Need to get back on it this evening, going to redo Shred (hopefully Natalie style) and see how it feels

NoPainNoGainNoFunNoPoint · 19/02/2014 09:56

L1D2. I wussed out on day one so tried it with "weights" this time. Well, a couple of tins of beans. Blush

I am a sweaty trembling mess. But hopefully it will be worth it.

Although when she says "I'm doing it with you, we're all in the same boat" in thinking Yeah, but your end of the boat isn't 5st overweight! Grin

Good luck, fellow shredders.

CaptainHindsight · 19/02/2014 10:43

There is a shred thread?!?!

Can I join? Level 1 was great (after I cried the first 2 attempts) Blush

I'm on level 2 now and got to day 2 before having a leave of absence (3 days) and I really want to get back on the wagon.

FlockOfTwats · 19/02/2014 16:29

I need some help with diet.

I'm on day day two of level 3 (didn't get it done yesterday due to lo being violently sick all evening).

i can definitely feel the muscles in my stomach, but in having trouble losing the bit of weight that still covers them. I dropped a considerable amount in the first ten days (see photos earlier in thread).

I think the problem is my diet. I don't eat a considerable amount, I'm sick if i eat in the morning (always have been) and i don't really eat lunch. I just snack.

Dinner is usually meat, potatoe and veg of some kind.

I'm thinking in not eating enough and my body is clinging to it.

Ive been out and bought some meal replacement shakes for the meals i cant stomach so that in at least getting some nutrients in,and its got a good amount of protein in.

Do you think this will help?

The two days ive had to rest on ive done half hour abdominal exercises though. (basically went through all of Jillians ab circuits from all three levels plus 100 Russian twists i saw in one of jillians mini work outs.

FlockOfTwats · 19/02/2014 16:32

Nopain haha, i thought similar, but then i learned that she did used to be overweight.

She was telling a boy on "losing it with jillian" how she was "the fat kid" in high school and on another of her days she says something about cheerleaders and "this is what happens when you're the fat kid in high school" (ie she doesn't like cheer leaders).

It made me like her more knowing she actually knows what its like to be unfit!

2tiredtocare · 19/02/2014 17:12

Flu gone and Day3 Level2 done

TessTackle · 19/02/2014 17:40

If I don't come back by 9pm and say I've done my day 3 of level 2 can someone send me abusive messages until I do??

Day off yesterday for my birthday and I feel so unmotivated today! Maybe an idea to start counting level 2 again from today.

spinningirl10 · 19/02/2014 17:47

Hi fellow shredders.....I'm back from my holiday Grin

Well done those of you who have finished shred!! And welcome newbies, keep at it!!

Flock you really should eat breakfast. Maybe try something different? Fruit, eggs or yoghurt. I'm healthy eating and it definitely helps with the weight loss and I can see abs!!

Anyway....new DVD for me today!

So Ripped in 30....D1 L1.....was good to get back to it although We have trained daily in the gym at hotel. Bf has had me doing lots of ab exercises and I've been keeping up with push ups and plank exercises.

I will probably also do some killer buns and thighs on days when I have more time!

mrssmooth · 19/02/2014 19:06

Hi folks. This is my second attempt at shredding with a break of erm, 18 months Blush My reason for getting back into it is more to tone up and get more fit. I started again at the beginning of January and have been doing the dvd on average 3 days a week (twice through the week and once at weekends ... early starts mean I can't fit it in before work and I'm too knackered to do it in the evenings!) I love Level 1. I tried Level 2 and absolutely, passionately, hate it. I can't do pressups to save myself and in this level most of the exercises are pressup/plank position based. So I watched Level 3 today after having done Level 1 again. It looks tough (nervous giggle!), but more "do-able" (for me) than Level 2. Has anyone else missed out one of the workouts? Do you do a mix of Levels on, say, alternate days?

Am I supposed to do 10 days at each level (so 5 days "easy" version, 5 days "hard") and then go up to the next level? Sorry - I've not read the whole thread!

JanineStHubbins · 19/02/2014 19:33

Hello - I'm a newbie, can I join? Smile

I am on a mission to drop a few inches and a few pounds for an event in a couple of months time. I've been advised to try weight training, as I already have some cardio (cycling to and from work).

I shredded last year (and gave up just as the sixpack was emerging, stupidly), so this time round I am going to do Ripped in 30 - largely because I get terribly bored doing the same workout 10 days in a row. 4 levels of 7 days is marginally more appealing.

I am hopelessly bad at pushups though, with zero upper body strength. Does anyone have any tips?

LakeFlyPie · 19/02/2014 20:17

Ok back on for Round 2Smile
L1 D1 done, mostly Natalie style, managed 1st set of press ups which is incredible considering 1 was my limit last time.
I agree about L2 mrssmooth, think I may try another DVD when my 10 days of L1 are up.
Welcome back spinninggirl, hope you had a lovely holiday.
Welcome janine

I've got a couple of busy evenings coming up so next Shred will be at weekend, see you then!

TessTackle · 19/02/2014 20:25

L2 D3 done thank god! Did the plank jacks with Natalie and my abs and glutes are so sore!

LakeFlyPie · 19/02/2014 23:13

Just read Amazon reviews for BFBM and ordered Ri30to avoid being faced with having to choose between L2 again or BFBM in 9 days!

FlockOfTwats · 20/02/2014 00:56

Spinning I try to, It makes me physically sick. It always has done since being a toddler :( The only time ive ever managed to eat breakfast is when i was pregnant.

I can stomach a bit of yoghurt sometimes.

The reason i thought of the meal replacement shakes is because my friend had them when she had hyperemesis in pregnancy to try and get some nuterients in.

Hope you had a lovely holiday!

Mumtoh · 20/02/2014 08:59

Have started back today after few days off, new DVD received so I can actually do L3 without it sticking! My right knee is very sore though, and makes a horrible grindy/clicky noise when I go upstairs...

Sweated like a pig, substituted some of the exercises which are hard on my knees but I did it. Am away from early tomorrow til late Sunday so next chance will be Monday.

Good to see new shredders joining in!
