Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

Think I'm with Wiley on the fleeces. What about this though www.fancydressball.co.uk

jellybrain · 12/02/2014 14:50

Well that worked well.......
My motivation has taken a plunge with all this rain. Got my new running shoes on Sunday and have only been out once. I don't want to get them muddy Grin something I need to get over don't you think.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/02/2014 17:25

at jelly not wanting to get trainers muddy Grin

Standingonlego · 12/02/2014 17:44

Wiley sorted :) Bizarrely, i do already have a roll of bin bags in my car for transporting the muddy mini Legos home from rugby matches Grin

wileycoyote · 12/02/2014 20:47

Ha ha Lego, excellent!

I can just see us all dressed as Air Stewardesses!! (not) Grin

Fishandjam · 12/02/2014 20:49

Huh, after my own bout of D&V I doubt I could run for a bus. Good job I have until September!

Oh yes, the Wolf Run will be 3 days after my birthday. So anyone staying overnight in Leamington (or wherever) will be bought a drink. One to share, not one each, mind you. (Only joking Grin)

Thanks for the pickup offer standing. I'll probably travel over on the day but will probably be too knackered to drive back again, hence the overnight stop. (And hell, it's an excuse for a night out, something sadly lacking these days.)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/02/2014 20:49

Wiley - you mean these surely?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/02/2014 20:50

I will be coming from Bedfordshire and can collect people on my way up Smile

wileycoyote · 12/02/2014 20:54

I'd scare myself in that!!

wileycoyote · 12/02/2014 23:34

Forgot to say. Running in a 5k 'Mud, sludge and soup' event on Sunday as my first go at a 'dry' run excuse the awful pun.

BigfootFiles · 13/02/2014 08:38

On a serious note re fleeces, I did a 10k thing for the first time last year and turned up in a fleece thinking it was warm and practical. The 'regulars' kindly advised me not to wear it, because as soon as it gets wet, it gets really heavy and cold and hard to run in. And that's the only reason I wouldn't wear a wolef fleece, honest. Wink

Tiredemma · 13/02/2014 09:17

I wouldnt really run in a fleece! ( I might have a nice clean , warm one in the car though for after!)

EauRouge · 13/02/2014 09:41

No, the wolef fleeces are for keeping us warm afterwards because we'll be soaking wet. We must wear them so everybody knows we're a team. Where is your team spirit? Grin

We could always have some Wolef T-shirts? I know a place that would print them up cheaply. What about a nice, tasteful design like this?

Right, places to stay. There are various riffs on the theme of Premier Inn and Travelodge in Leamington and Coventry. There's also a B&B in nearby Long Itchington (which could be serendipitously named after we've spent a couple of hours splashing about in muddy water), where apparently there are also pubs and a Chinese restaurant.

Who's likely to want accommodation? I don't mind sharing (I don't think I snore...)

EauRouge · 13/02/2014 12:06

Yes, we should get team T shirts. They'll need to be techy ones rather than cotton ones or we'll never survive the water bits. I do love that design Grin

Fish if you'll be on your own then you could squeeze in our car if you want. Unless you want a night away from it all!

BigfootFiles · 15/02/2014 22:55

If we're after techy t-shirts, once we have final confirmed numbers, it might be worth seeing if we can ask any t-shirt manufacturers if they'd consider donating them if we put their logo on as part of the Mumsnet/Wolef design? I'm happy to put a few calls in. They can only say no!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/02/2014 08:04

Thats a great idea bigfoot!

One of the woolly hugs team had a teeshirt made last year - I will ask her where she got it, and whether it was a tech one (I seem to think it was, but am not 100% sure)

EauRouge · 16/02/2014 09:40

We'll have to check a few places out, a lot of companies seem to have a minimum order. This one does individual T shirts for £16.99 which isn't too bad, but we might be able to find somewhere cheaper.

Good morning wolefs!

I can confirm that running through a big puddle of calf deep icy water only hurts for a few seconds, and your feet warm up fairly quickly afterwards as long as you keep going Grin

I added a couple of "challenges" by going a bit off-piste on my long run today. My local country park is pretty flooded and has a few trees down to jump over Grin

thenightsky · 16/02/2014 11:15

OneOH... well done!

I love the t-shirt design... very tasteful Grin

Fishandjam · 16/02/2014 21:18

Good idea Bigfoot! The company I work for does a logo'd running top, and I know they use a supplier called Sussex Promotions. I can check to see how much they cost and what the MOQ is. (As we don't want to have to buy a hundred, for eg.)

On the subject of my employer: they have a corporate social responsibility programme which includes "matched funding" for sponsored efforts by employees up to a max of £1k. So if someone runs a marathon and raises £500, my employer puts in another £500. Soooo, if you can all persuade your sponsors to give me the money (rather than you), we'll get more IYSWIM?

thenightsky · 16/02/2014 21:42

Look. I know I cannot run, but I'm happy to sign up for a technical wolef top if it means adding to the numbers to get it cheaper. I'd certainly get the use out of it at parkruns etc.

Standingonlego · 16/02/2014 21:53

Hey fishandjam my employer does that too...do you work for the most hated bank in the uk too?

Standingonlego · 16/02/2014 21:53

Grin was missing there

Fishandjam · 16/02/2014 22:36

Niet tovarich standing. I work for a company that makes teeny tiny silicon thingies wot go in your iPhone. (You can tell I've got a real grasp of the business, can't you!)
