Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

No Parkrun for me this weekend - I've been learning Welsh instead Grin (those are my 2 current projects - Welsh and running).

Well done to all that made it and to the 10k runners - should that be a goal for me?!

I'm hoping to make it next week for my 2nd Parkrun effort but we have a ridiculously busy 5 days coming up and DH has been in sole charge of our ds's all of this weekend so we'll have to see!

Knackerelli · 17/11/2013 21:44

Yay cinnamon! Glad to hear that you had a good run too! We have some proper speedsters here!

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 17/11/2013 23:16

Iwish - how brilliant to be learning Welsh! Is it as impenetrable as it looks/sounds?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/11/2013 09:51

No, it's more pronounceable than it looks but there are sooooooh many rules to remember regarding the treiglads (mutations) which cause some letters to change to others!

I'm getting there yn araf iawn (say un arav yown) very slowly!!

Tesco delivery, cooking and house cleaning for me this morning then I'll head out for a 5+ 30 minute run I think!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/11/2013 10:23

I'm rubbish at all languages :(

Had a 4.5 mile run yesterday morning which really helped my sore legs and today I am totally pain free Grin. Apart from my left second toe, which I managed to kick a box with yesterday and it was almost instantly black/purple! I've also scraped some skin off it so it's really painful :(

And yes I think 10k is a reasonable thing to aim for IwishIwasmoreorganised, it took me a while to think of it but it is a very achievable distance without too much extra training.

Blatherskite · 20/11/2013 10:55

I'm feeling better this week and had planned a lot of running - then DD came down with chicken pox so she's not at pre school and we're under house arrest while she gets spottier and spottier and spottier.

This does not bode well for the 10k PB I was hoping for on Sunday Sad

cinnamongreyhound · 20/11/2013 12:42

Oh no Blatherskite :(. My two had it exactly two weeks apart so I had a looooonnng quarantine!

IsThatTrue · 20/11/2013 14:34

cinnamon snap for the long quarantine, thankfully mine were 5 and 7 when they got it so easier to be cooped up with.

blathers I hope dd isn't too poorly with it.

I saw a little girl (ds2s friends sister, age 6) get knocked off her scooter by a car this morning. Even after a 4 mile run I couldn't get rid of that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. :( thankfully she's fine but my brain won't shut up with 'what if scenarios! :(

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 21/11/2013 07:48

Ds1 was 4 and got it first then ds2 who was 10 months.

That's horrible IsThatTrue! Really shakes you things like that :(

PepeLePew · 21/11/2013 23:10

Iwish - I'm about to start training for 10k. 5k is totally manageable now in a way I couldn't have imagined six months ago. So 10k seems like the next goal. I've been a bit slack the last week or so but am planning on skipping parkrun this Saturday (sorry!!) in favour of a longer run - was thinking 8k as that is just a bit further than the longest I've ever done before. Slow slow slow, I think - but am hoping I will feel the benefit of a couple of killer interval sessions on the treadmill this week.

IsThatTrue · 22/11/2013 04:23

Go for it pepe and iwish 10k is a great goal. Especially if there's a race at the end of it. After I could manage 5k I trained for a 10 k race in September. It was great. I now routinely run between 3 and 6 miles at least 3 times a week :)

I doubt I'm going to fit parkrun in this week, it depends what time I need to leave as I'm heading to the Swedish church in London for their Christmas fair. And we need to be there around 11.

OP posts:
OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 22/11/2013 08:22

I will be parkrunning tomorrow-I need to get out after a bonkers week with no exercise apart from my daily bike ride to and from the station, but that is only a mile or so each way.

I need to get back into my running groove as I've a half marathon in 2 weeksShock and am still eating as though I am running 20+ miles a weekGrin

Tomorrow will be 25 for me, halfway there!

Blatherskite · 22/11/2013 17:06

I think I have torn my calf muscle. I am probably going to miss Mo running on Sunday and won't get the moustache shaped medal that I've been hankering after for months or my PB. I am actually quite devastated Sad

karatekimmi · 22/11/2013 17:22

Hi all, can I join in,

I'm a part time runner and would live some consistency to my running, but an 18month old, and a new job means I do t have the time.

I accidently did y first park run, I went to the park with my "D"s who had been up since 3am and I was ready to scream so I ran to the park with him, and got talked into it. We've done it most weeks (starting at the back with the pushchair). I take about 38 mins with DS and 33 mins without him) I am envious of the sub 30 minutes times!!

I'll catch up with the thread, but I'm very excited about my PR tomorrow as I have a new to me running pushchair!!

IsThatTrue · 22/11/2013 18:42

Oh blathers that's shit! I really hope you are on the mend really soon. But unfortunately you really must rest.

Welcome karatekimmi when I ran with the buggy at parkrun I did it in 35 minutes. Since then my fitness has improved but I don't want to push my buggy through the mud so I've not taken him in a while, I do however run with him quite often after I've dropped my big dcs at school. I now average 10 minute miles with the buggy which I am still really Shock at tbh. It really helps my normal times though as when I run without the buggy I feel like I'm flying! :)

You'll soon have your pb under 30, I started running in June and when I did my first (solo) parkrun my time was 33.20 (ish) now my pb is 27.15! As long as you keep at it, you'll get there :)

I'm not running at all tomorrow. My DH is home Grin and I'm leaving him with the dcs while I go out with mil. Tbh I need the peace. Ds2 has been a nightmare this week, I've had bugger all sleep and I'm really ratty! I shall run at some point Sunday ( I think)

Good luck for tomorrow parkrunners!

Welcome kimmiGrinSmile

BlathersSad Sad Sad Sad for you.

Have a lovely day tomorrow IsThatSmile

Looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on tomorrowSmile

thenightsky · 22/11/2013 19:47

Blathers... be careful not to start back too soon. I had a torn calf muscle and thought I was okay after 6 weeks, but within 100 yards I was in agony, made it worse and needed another 10 weeks rest Sad

Blatherskite · 22/11/2013 20:07

6 weeks!! Noooooo!!

I don't think it's too bad. It hasn't bruised at all which is reassuring and has improved loads over the course of today. I can now almost walk normally with it just catching as it's at the furthest back point as I take a step with the other foot (if that makes any sense!) I can now pull my toes up which I couldn't do yesterday but I still can't weight-bear at the extremes so I can't tip toe. Going up stairs is fine but I feel it coming back down again.

I'd got about 10 minutes into a social run and just felt a tearing sensation down the back of my calf. Like fabric being torn, lots of little pops. It was sore but I was able to carry on for a little while. It wasn't the stabbing pain and immediate need to stop that I've read about. I'm hoping it's something else/not too bad and will be OK by Sunday or at least for my night run next week.

I'm deluding myself aren't I? Sad

IsThatTrue · 22/11/2013 20:59

blathers I reckon you need to sack off Sunday tbh. I can't see it doing you any good. Rest up and reevaluate on Friday. You may just make next weeks race if you rest, but if you don't you're just going to damage yourself more.

< stern look at blathers >

OP posts:
thenightsky · 22/11/2013 21:26

Blathers... that sounds EXACTLY like I had. Sorry to say that. I was fine walking after about 4 days, except I could feel something when my leg was stretched out back at furthest point back of walking IYSWIM. I tried to run and was clutching my calf and gritting my teeth within 100 yards. Physio said I was a fool to even to try that. I needed ultrasound and 10 weeks off.

Blatherskite · 22/11/2013 21:33

Ah bollocks Sad

Standingonlego · 23/11/2013 10:07

Hi All - POOR blathers that sounds really nasty. Do take care and see physio as soon as you can for emergency fix. Until then RICE - Rest Ice Compression Elevation. Take care and take heed of IsThat and nightsky

Just back from Parkrun enjoying being sat with tea and toast in a peaceful empty (but untidy) house. On MN, radio 6 on and relax for 5 minutes.

Welcome and waves to new parkrunners on this thread Kimmi and the regulars! Hope everyone had a good run this morning.

I enjoyed taking my new high viz tights out for their first test run, no more freezing calves - hooray! Slow to warm up but had enough left for a mini sprint finish to overtake the man in blue at finish funnel , fingers crossed for a respectable time :) A cold fresh day here but no wind so that was good. Look forward to hearing how everyone got on.

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 23/11/2013 10:18

Morning all!

Blathers - hope you are resting.

IsThat enjoy the week off and the day out.

I had a good run, not fast or anywhere near a PB, but it was good to be out. Even managed to chat for part of it Grin.

Right, lego (and any other tourists) - let's set a January date for our meet-up. Is 11 Jan any good for people?

And speaking of tourism, is anyone in Norfolk? I'll be there the weekend after next, so am looking at doing one of the parkruns near Norwich - there look to be a couple I can get to from where I'm staying. PM me if you don't want to say on the thread.

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 23/11/2013 10:24

Blickling or Catton look closest to where I'll be in Norfolk Smile

Blatherskite · 23/11/2013 11:07

I'm resting. I'm not liking it but I'm resting Sad
