Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

Yes a half, I'm getting terrified now was excited until yesterday now it's less than a week! I have the stress of getting everyone up and out and there on time before I even think about running.

30th is my birthday, my friend who is RD sometimes has suggested a special dog run at our local parkrun as I enjoy running with my dogs (although will have to chose one to bring).

MelanieCheeks · 11/11/2013 11:22

Oooh, I run with my dogs too, though not together! Max, the mad Weimaraner came to ONE Parkrun, and was totally freaked out by the adrenalin and high viz vests - howled and squealed the whole time. But he loves to come on my solo Sunday distance runs on quiet roads. Minnie the cocker spaniel is a regular now at our Park Runs, and she's been with me every time I get a new PB.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/11/2013 11:52

I am usually a min or so slower with a dog melaniecheeks, they go off like loonies on the first lap but by the second lap they want to sniff and wee on everything and often poo too :( I don't like running with anything in my hands let alone a bag of poo! My greyhound usually doesn't do more than 5 miles but my whippet/terrier cross has done 12 miles with me and is still not tired! The same bloke who was spitting around me Saturday has told me before that my dogs give me an advantage Hmm, if only all you needed was a dog attached to you and you could do an 18 min 5k Wink

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 11/11/2013 13:36

I deffo can't do 30th November, and may not be around for 14th December (I may be up north, if so I will be putting a call out for any MNers who go to Roundhay Grin). But it is usually impossible to find a date which suits everyone.

IsThatTrue · 12/11/2013 14:19

Ah I love all the mn parkrun meet ups! :) I'm too far south to meet you all but think of me :)

I have spoken to mil and she is happy to have ds2 on sat morning do I shall be park running! Yay!

I've been out yesterday and today and will prob do every morning this week, it means ds2 has a nice nap and then is pleasant for most the rest of the day.

There was a massive argument on my running clubs fb group over parkruns and one of the coaches has resigned :(
Our club is in one town which got a parkrun about 4 weeks before the one I go to started. My one is nicer scenery and smaller so quite a few of my club volunteer as we often struggle to find people and it annoys others in the club who feel they should support the parkrun in their town. Personally I think that you can recruit club members from both, I travel to them and I'm sure others would as its only 6 miles away. Fb is very good at these kinds of arguments unfortunately!

My mum is hopefully going to run with me Saturday, well walk run anyway :)

IsThatTrue · 13/11/2013 19:09

Oh cinnamon not good a coach resigned over a fb arguement :( I hope it gets sorted out.

I only got out just before school pick up today so only managed 2 miles, but did 9.01/mile with the buggy Shock 2 more days of buggy running then a buggy free parkrun on Saturday! I've actually been really enjoying running every morning and it's meant that ds2 has a nap so is nicer through the day except for when he has a cold and us teething like today, then we sack off work and go shopping instead Grin so I may need to look into juggling my hours a bit so I run each morning. Who knew I'd get quite so into running?

cinnamongreyhound · 13/11/2013 19:59

Sounds lovely IsThatTrue, perfect for you both! A lady at my club used to run 3miles uphill to mcdonalds with her little Girl on her bike, she'd have a happy meal and then back down the hill so she got a decent run and her little girl was happy too! No way I'd attempt running with my two ds1 is fine on road but doesn't like riding his bike in the forest and ds2 is too big to run with in the buggy and too small to bike along side :(. Luckily dh is home by 6 every day and at the moment I'm going before he leaves at 7am :)

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 14/11/2013 08:42

Oh blooming facebook - why do people do that? It's too easy to post in haste and fall out with people.

Good news about MIL IsThat

I have had my volunteer reminder email for Saturday Smile. I am tail running so don't need to worry about being last Grin.

Blatherskite · 14/11/2013 10:25

The head coach at one of my running clubs seems to have a massive problem with parkrun for some reason. All of the long, marathon training runs are therefore done on a Saturday morning at 8am meaning there is absolutely no way anyone can do parkrun and the long runs. It's one of the main reasons I joined a 2nd club to be honest and my top reason for thinking I may not renew my membership when it comes up in April. Club 2 does long runs on Sundays and actively encourages members to join in with parkrun. They even use it as the final run in their couch to 5k program.

I've pulled out of volunteering at parkrun on saturday. I need to be at the half marathon for 9.30 to volunteer there and it's just too much to fit into 1 day. It means I'll be out of the running for the London Marathon draw but I'm still not convinced that I want to do a marathon so that's Ok for now.

Still feeling poorly too :( I haven't been running for a week and a half now but I just feel too rotten.

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2013 13:01

I think fb gives people the confidence to say things they just wouldn't say in rl!

Ours are pro parkrun and even had a coach suggest using parkrun as a speed run in marathon training. There is a 6 mile saturday run at 8.30 that some people still do, I used to do that and not run Sunday but now usually run sat and sun. Quite lot of people arrange Sunday runs with other club runners but not and official club iyswim.

Hope you feel better soon Blatherskite! Horrible to feel poorly for so long. I know what you mean about chase the place I'm still in it but not sure I want to do a marathon. Enjoy your volunteering :)

cinnamongreyhound · 14/11/2013 13:07

Just registered my mum Grin

IsThatTrue · 15/11/2013 03:46

Yay for running with your mum cinnamon

I'm heading off for a nice slow one in the morning ok technically it is morning but I'm hoping for a bit more sleep before then with a friend who I feel is doing amazingly. She's worried about being slow (ie too slow for me) but having run every day a nice slow jog with a chat is perfect. Then taking ds2 swimming. The big kids have school discos which don't finish until 8.30 and then they are going to XH. But it means poor baby ds2 will be up late. Oh well mil has him sat morning not me Grin

I'm thinking of running to parkrun sat, it's only a mile and as it's so muddy in the woods my actual parkrun is going to be pretty slow tbh, so a nice run there and back may help blow out the cobwebs.

blathers I hope you feel better soon!

Brrr, forecast for tomorrow morning is between 3 and 4 degrees. Layers are the answer I guess.

Hope everyone has a good run!

Standingonlego · 16/11/2013 09:01

on your marks, get set....go!!!!!

9am, missing park run as took so long to get the hockey gang out the door....grrrr.....looked at clock 8.58.....:(

Standingonlego · 16/11/2013 09:02

thinking of you all - still off for a run now though, there is always next week :)

woundbobbin · 16/11/2013 10:13

It was a cold one this morning I left dd at home with dh as I thought she'd get to cold in the pram I missed her singing along as we ran round but it was nice to have full use of my arms. Very motivational women was running in front of me very insistent that her friend push push PUSH ! Giving me awful flashbacks of labour but I wasn't fast enough to run past them! Hope everyone else had a good run.

OhFourFiftyNineThirtyFive · 16/11/2013 10:37

I tail ran /walked today. No pressure to go fast or even get out of breath Grin

One of our regular runners did his 100th today. No cake thoughGrin

cinnamongreyhound · 16/11/2013 11:35

My mum only managed one lap but she's now annoyed with herself and is coming back next week Grin I gently jogged second lap as I have my half tomorrow and didn't want to push it. 38min, still quicker than with ds1 :)

Sorry you didn't make it today Standingonlego :(

That is quite funny woundbobbin! We had a lady with a buggy this morning for the first time :)

We had a frost last week so this one was definitely warmer!

MelanieCheeks · 16/11/2013 15:50

Our local C25K group were doing their first run today -I got to join in with them, and we were all wearing mathcing purple T shirts. No PB this week, but I WAS the October PurkRun Sweatshop prizewinner! £50 towards a pair of new trainers. Chuffed to bits with that.

OPeaches · 16/11/2013 16:04

Ooh, well done in your £50 win Melanie.

Does anyone else spend all day Saturday checking the results page? Ours isn't updated yet. The suspense is killing me. Grin

Knackerelli · 16/11/2013 16:17

Oh the constant checking! Then DH would suggest going for a walk somewhere without 3G.....! Now though I get my results by txt, just entered it on the website; is that an option for you? Got my result today whilst drinking my post run cup of tea in the cafe, a PB too!

Blatherskite · 16/11/2013 16:36

Well done Melanie!

No parkrunning for me this week as I was marshalling at a local half marathon instead. Loads of people from my 2 running clubs were there so I had a great time cheering everyone on and got a free technical t-shirt too :)

Movember 10k for me next weekend. I haven't run (except for parkrun) for almost a fortnight so I'm going to have to get back to some training now I'm finally feeling better. That cold was a nasty one!

IsThatTrue · 16/11/2013 19:29

I didn't get to parkrun today as ds2 had a temperature when he woke up and there's no way he'd have let me leave him with mil.

Oh well there's always next week!

Congrats on you're sweatshop win melanie

PepeLePew · 16/11/2013 19:57

No parkrun for me this week - I can only really do it when the dcs are with their dad, as when they are with me two of them have football club and are picked up at 9.45, and even if I could leave them with a neighbour I would have to take dd with me. She's 8 - think she might, just might, get round the course but it would take forever.

On which note, does anyone have any experience of getting children running? None of mine are good or fast runners, and they hate sports day as a result. They are fairly active - swimming, dd does gym, ds1 and ds2 play football fairly badly. They walk and cycle but they just don't seem able to run.

So, this afternoon, we put on our trainers and went to the park. It was quite successful - I took my phone and we used MapMyRun to trace how far we went. We did a combination of walking and running, including some hills and did about 2km. It was great, and they really enjoyed themselves, and are really keen to repeat it (maybe because we ended up in the cafe!), but I'm just not sure how to structure it or what to do - should we be aiming for a particular distance (and if so what) or just running for fun? They are 9, 7 and 6.
